Turbo ASMR Cruise In The Miata

Testing out more audio goodies, I haven't had much time to film over the last few weeks but hopefully you enjoy this whooshy goodness! Muffler was removed for this, doing a little feeler to see if I want to straight pipe the red Miata since it's too quiet, hahaha. In-car shots are a blend of cabin mic + engine bay mic. Sounds fine. I ran my old Datsun 510 (with a turbo kit) with only a resonator (no muffler) back in the 80s. It was no problem ... turbos are pretty good mufflers.

It's odd how there's a hiss in this video, with the pure engine bay mike, there's actually none at all, I don't even think the valve opens. But yeah the flutter is cool haha, and that's with the softest available spring in the Turbosmart recirc. With the stock recirc the spring was so soft it would never do that

@@longbow1997 I had a custom built dual tip exhaust where the cutout would either direct exhaust through the muffler and out one of the tips, or when opened it would let exhaust flow through both tips, one of which was a straight pipe

miata dad is back! Strange question, what color is your engine block painted? I was watching one of your old videos and it doesnt look black (could be), to me it looks more of a silvery/gray color. Looks pretty nice, if i ever get to paint a block id rather go with a similar color rather than the traditional black.

@@Driven.ByVlad I use it for all engine bay/exhaust/turbo audio. With the adjustments of the Zoom recorder you can assure you don't blow out the audio haha

I have it set to around 5000, I actually never hit the flatshift limiter during a shift, I just use it to cut fuel and spark when the clutch pedal is pressed

Very nice, just wondering if you fixed the BP or if you're running a different engine or just posted some old clips. Either way very nice, and I love that red Miata with the BP DOHC engine. I really hope you caught and fixed the spun rod bearing before it trashed the crank journal. That'll be the difference between a new rod bearing, and a complete lower engine rebuild. I love what you do, just probably should be careful with it. The BP engine is amazing, but you are pushing the limits of what's possible. Not gonna try to tell you what to do, just recommend to be careful. Love you Greg, love your channel, and love the car/engine/ and what you've done with it. I really think 500 is the limit for the BP engine to safely handle without blowing up. It's actually somewhat insane to think that a 1.8 engine can handle that without blowing itself to pieces to be honest, but amazing things are possible with passion. Thank you for doing what you do, and can't wait to see that 1.9 BP custom engine back up and running again.

I'm not sure what spun bearing you speak of but this is the BP still, and this was filmed a couple days ago 😊 Also someone has made 997whp from a BP, the block is incredibly strong! I'm limited by my turbo size though

There's a large bridge to gap between 350 and 500. Cost and drivability wise. Be happy with 300-350 is my advice, it's a total sweet spot
