Thanks SO much for this video! I have a 97NA w/ the FM S1 kit- and was wondering what the difference would be, and now I know! Could you tell me who made the cold side pipe going into your TB? I'm looking to change out the silicone hose with something more permanent as well as run a different BOV than the one FM provides. Thanks so much!

looking to get this over the FM kit. the FM kit comes with everything you need even some of the tools. What about this kit? also Kraken is based over seas is that going to make it more expensive to ship? I will say I like the manifold and the turbo placement way better over the FM kit
@CarGuyFridays3 жыл бұрын
FM makes a great kit. But the Kraken is much more efficient and the low mount is less heat in the engine bay. You can get the kraken as a kit as well with everything. Shipping times even though Kraken is overseas are still very fast.

Hi, i have a 99nb1 and i am looking towards boosted turbo- any help would help- i have headers,dp,exhaust, rubber, coilovers,mishimoto rad and fan, kobalt reroute.... where do i start and what would i need- kraken sounds great!!!!
@CarGuyFridays Жыл бұрын
Suggest you look into a standalone as your next mod. It'll let you learn how to use it without having a turbo. Megasquirt 3 is popular on miatas and works well!

Looks cool, but is it truly worth the headache? I installed the fm turbo kits and it wssnt very damn fun at all. Not sure I'd wanna make that job harder.

It's not that much of a headache. +40whp over a FM kit at the same boost ... definitely worth it in my book but there is nothing wrong with the FM stuff

Does the Kraken vs G19 worth the extra money for going with a T25 GT 2554R Turbo ?
@CarGuyFridays Жыл бұрын
I think so!
@mariusbrinzaru8137 Жыл бұрын
@@CarGuyFridays what is the reason you think that ? :D
@CarGuyFridays Жыл бұрын
The g19 manifold appears to be a near log style manifold. That means it likely wont flow as well as the kraken you see in this video. Thatll result in slower spool up, and more heat in the cylinders. That means slower spool and less timing on pump gas. So less power too, or at least let less margin of safety from knock. The turbo manifold (and turbo) are the heart of the entire system. I'd go for the best you can afford there. Everything else is relatively easy to upgrade or swap out later.
@loddy210 Жыл бұрын
What does Mike think about running this setup for endurance racing. I've been against putting a turbo on our 99 because of the heat. Does a low mount create less heat?
@CarGuyFridays Жыл бұрын
This manifold design flows better so less heat will stay in the engine. Being able to bump ign timing without knock is a really strong indicator that's happening. This also puts the turbo low which makes it easy to move air out of the engine bay and a straighter downpipe to also help get heat out of there. You'll still struggle with heat in an enduro track setup and need a heck of a radiator setup though. Ultimately heat is a function of power generated and more power means more heat.

Great video, I've just bought an mx5 turbo after nearly 10 years with a 200sx s14 and mine happens to come with a FM manifold. Mine is making much less power though, around the 200hp mark so don't know if the improvements will be quite as noticeable if I swapped it out, something to think about in the future though, did you ever get yours to the dyno to check what power it made? Cheers
@CarGuyFridays2 жыл бұрын
Still havent made it to the dyno unfortunately. At that power level I'd guess itll be slightly less relevant. I have another buddy with the same manifold at that power level and the biggest thing weve noticed is how the exhuast note changed. It doesnt sound like a typical turbo miata it's much closer to a turbo honda or sport bike in exhuast pulse smoothness. We are guessing because the runners are much closer to equal length vs the fm manifold being a better version of a log manifold.

Straighter downpipe exit, prettier engine bay, lower weight is better for handling, and the design of this specific manifold is better from the runners perspective. Having used this manifold, I wouldnt use anything else to turbo a miata
