The NES Gaming Marathon, the next big competitive gaming event. One game from each major genre on the NES, sports, action/adventure, RPG, puzzle, and platforming. My personal selection of games for this marathon would be Final Fantasy, Zelda, Tetris, Tecmo Super Bowl, and Super Mario Bros 3. Competitors would play the games in that order with Super Mario Bros 3 being the finale and the gamer who beats all 5 games first will be the winner. Since there is no definitive ending for Tetris or Tecmo Super Bowl a predetermined criteria can be set for this event to mark the progression point for these games. For example, Tetris can be given a specific high score amount to reach and Tecmo Super Bowl can be assigned a designated number of games won. Winner to receive the title of NES Champion and a solid gold trophy molded into the shape of an NES controller. Erin, Mike, James, if you have any interest in this idea feel free to explore its possibilities for yourselves. I do not have the resources to host such an event myself. I am just a fellow gamer sharing my ideas with you and your associates. Good luck, and game on.

@@ErinPlays it did not get good reviews from the Wii VC, but it was a 3D FPS from 1991, before Wolfenstein 3D, before DooM. It was one of the first, and was on a 16 bit console. It had a multitude of weapons and equipment to choose from to cater to your play style. Different enemies with different abilities, so you had to change up your play depending on the situation. You had to protect specific rooms in the station, like Power, Armory, Battery Room and Sensors, you lost the abilities that the rooms provided if they got destroyed. WAAAAAAY ahead of its time. Check it out.

A friend of mine worked on Night Creatures!! We tease him constantly about it. :D To be fair, it's not his fault that it's as bad as it is, but we still give him the business over it. ;) Psychosis is one of my favorites. It's actually Japanese. It was made by Naxat, who also either worked with, or were related somehow to Compile who made lots of good shooters. (Aleste, Blazing Lazers/Gunhed, etc.) In the Japanese version the little gremlin guy flips you off instead of waving his finger at you. I recommend looking into the back story for it. It's a bit nonsensical, but basically you're in a coma or something like that, and the ship is a manifestation of your conscience. You have to fight your way out of your psychosis via the ship. Kinda cool, and silly. :)

It's funny to see someone coming to TG16/PCE later on describe Legendary Axe as "fine". I think pretty much anyone playing these games in early 90s would have considered it a prime reason, if not THE reason to own the system. It was game of the year by what was probably the 2nd or 3rd most popular gaming mag of the time. (#1 being nintendo power that wouldn't have covered it anyway). I can totally get it, because it's not an intuitive game and the visuals are no longer impressive, but at the time it was an OHHHH MY GOOOOOOODDDDDD THIS IS AWESOME game. Most think it should have been the US pack in game since Bonk wasn't released when system launched.

I selfishly would like to see Intellivision or Master System, and I do think this lends the opportunity for some crazy guess answers based off titles and cover art alone for games you don't know, or know well enough. And if you get enough in a row wrong, Elmo can administer some form of punishment or something. Also, a flashy spinning wheel, clowns, explosions, and at the end, coffee talk.

Hey Erin, this is a good series that you have started. This must take a ton of editing to get the side-by-side screens. One thought I had for you to explore is to get one of those emulation devices with 50,000 games (Kinhank, etc) and load a random game (across all available platforms) for a predetermined amount of time, and see how far you can get. These could be sessions of 10-20 random games at a time, depending on the time allotted for playing each game.

Although Vigilante seemed to have the most realistic jump physics in that you couldn't clear more than 3 feet high in a leap! No Splatterhouse or Bonk? I was surprised that these weren't included... Makes sense though since you probably wanted to go for the lesser known titles. Thanks again for doing this!
