I upgrade to a Stihl BR800C backpack this year from a Stihl handheld style blower. Changed my life! I have wayy to many trees. If we get any snow this year I'm gonna blast it off the cars with the new blower 🤘

After many years of using blowers for work, think I've got a great combination. I use a Stihl SH86C-E as a vac, a Husqvarna 525BX, which I think is the best hand held blower on the market, and a Husqvarna 580 BTS for the big jobs! Works perfect for me!

Hey Brian, another great video. I was always big on CFM for blowers but recently after a visit to my favorite Echo dealer and drooling over the new gas powered unit, he informed me the number to really look at is Newtons. It makes logical sense but up until now, I haven't heard of it much. Looking it up, I found: "A Newton is a unit of force, combining air velocity and air volume into one easy-to-understand unit of measure. Consumers may find it surprising that the other more traditional blower specifications such as air velocity [mph] and air volume [cfm] are calculated values." I still have 3 electrics blowing 500 to 600 CFM that work great and I think that one Echo unit I saw with 48 N force would be too powerful and fling decorative rocks out of my landscaping. I looked up the air volume on that unit and its well over 1100 CFM!
@jasono2139
@jasono2139 Жыл бұрын
Yes, Newtons would be the value given for thrust. If the idiotic imperial units given for CFM and MPH were instead given in kg/s and m/s, you could simply multiple them together to get kg×m/s^2 (which is Newtons... F = m×a)

Great comparison and explanation! I use the handheld Milwaukee for quick light jobs like getting the leaves off the roof. I have a Husqvarna back pack blower for the big heavy stuff. I think they compliment each other well!

I should get my hands on a backpack, my steep hill to the east could use that right now, so hard to get them on that terrain that I rarely even try.

Speaking of attachments, would be nice to see how these blowers compare with different attachments. For example, my EGO 650 has a narrow attachment that apparently speeds up the stream while spreading it out? Thanks for the comparison!
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you buy the ego 650 it comes with the narrow tip, regular tip, and an extra tip that flattens the air flow out while blowers like my old Dewalt, the Toro, and the SunJoe don't have any other tips than the main one. At some point I'll have to do a refresh on my blower comparison video with extra info like this thrown in along with extra blowers thrown into the comparison too.

Liked also here. I am a bit confused by the different videos. In one, you said Toro is more powerful than the EGO. And then in a recent video you said EGO is more powerful than the Toro (5+ thrust vs 4+ lbs thrust.) Then in a head to head video 2 weeks ago (posted 2 weeks after this), you said those with the budget should go with the EGO over the Toro as it is more refined. And yet here your 'go to' is the Toro which you grab first. Can you clarify? I do want a powerful unit to blow of snow off decks, cars, and a big front drive area as the snow comes down so that we don't have to shovel packed snow. And for focused high speed with the Toro, can't you just adapt an 'aftermarket' narrow nozzle to the TORO? Thanks.

My leaf blower vids from 2020 have a few flawed bits of info in them. I fully replaced one from 2020 already with the one published last month. I'll be doing the same with some of the others in time. In most cases anything published most recently should be relied more upon. I try my best, always have, but I do make errors along the way that I try to correct them when I have the time to do so. From my most recent testing I find the ego 650 to be stronger and quieter than the Toro every time...not by much but every time nevertheless.
@2musiclover534
@2musiclover534 3 жыл бұрын
@@TurfMechanic Thank you. NOOOO problem. It is great to see you getting more refined and precise. So somehow, the TORO is your 1st go to anyways. That counts for a lot if I understood it correctly. Thanks.

It's on my radar for sure! Thanks! I should also say, all of these are very strong and capable. Hard to go wrong with any of them honestly. I even still use my SunJoe which is way less powerful and it always gets the job done too.

Blowing leaves is a task i really have to master. My neighbor, with slightly smaller yard finishes in half the time. He uses a corded black and decker with a very small opening. I guess there's more to it than power and speed 🤔
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, blowing in a slight breeze always slows the job down and blowing them when they are freshly on the ground helps too...and grass length makes the job easier or harder...and and practice, lol my last house had so many mature trees, now I have a much easier job with leaf management!

I have 3 leaf blowers, just bought my 3rd, or should I say my husband did. He has never did lawn work, it's time to for me to rake this acre again, cause the battery powered ones he bought is only good for drive way and patio, so today he decided he would buy a cheap gas powered that blows 200 MPG. I doubt I will even use it. He has no idea what it's like to swing one for hours and not all the leaves are going where you want them. I need a back pack blower with some force, but not him he's too cheap . I just feel I can rake up piles, put them in large trash can and dump them in my burn pile. I ain't got time standing in one spot fooling with trying to get them across the whole yard to the burn pile. Either way you're gonna be raking at some point. He hasn't a clue. To him it just looks easy. Ugh!

electric blowers with really high cfm and mph seem to be a LOT louder than the smaller brushless motors with slower speed...they should ALL come with a db rating and frequency band ..those electric blowers vs gas are high pitched screeching monsters compared to gas
@jasono2139
@jasono2139 Жыл бұрын
I think you need to get your hearing checked then because there's zero chance that a gas blower will make less dB simply because they run at higher frequencies. Since gas engines typically run slower, the fan doesn't make nearly as much of a high pitch whiny (like a turbocharger), but the exhaust more than makes up for that.

Dude! Yes you can! Dry snow moves easier with a blower than with anything else! If it's ice you can melt it with ice melt then disburse it with the leaf blower soooo easy. 👌

As an engineer... your explanation of the meanings of CFM and MPH were cringe inducing. 🤦 Just because you have a single CFM number does not mean you can convert that back and forth between high CFM or higher MPH... that's not how blowers and fans work. Something you'll never see published by manufacturers is their air flow (CFM) vs static pressure curves which is how well a blower can continue moving air as an increasing amount of back pressure (flow restrictions) is applied. Centrifugal fans are excellent at maintaining flow at high static pressures... axial fans are not (which are most of the blowers you showed here). If you put a tight enough nozzle on any of these blowers, it'll most likely barely accelerate the air any faster... at a certain point, it'll just blow less (same MPH... less CFM). Leaf blowers like Toro's 3-in-1 that uses a centrifugal impeller will not achieve the same CFM ratings, but if you want higher MPH (which is necessary for blowing heavy objects), attaching a nozzle will greatly improve its MPH. ...in other words, CFM is not "King"...nor is MPH.
