Just shot a melanistic turkey in South Dakota that we had been targeting since the springtime. I hope you guys got that bird mounted, the odds of finding a wild melanistic bird like that is approx 1 in 50,000-200,000 birds. Congrats guys! You shot a unicorn in the turkey woods! 🥳🥳🥳

Thanks Brother! Neither of us were too sure what was going on with that tom. We are not super expiereinced with turkey hunting. But we both could see that something was different about that bird. One of the locals said that it could be a cross between a wild rio and a domesticated spainish black. The bird is now with Jeremy in Montanna. He has not had it mountded yet. But is planning on it.

Yeah that's a rare turkey gents! Hopefully you kept the fan or had it mounted. The all black turkeys are more rare then the all white ones.

How did you pick a place to hunt?
@mitchweigel6713 Жыл бұрын
This was on private property that we have permission to hunt. Not all, but most of the the good turkey hunting in Oregon west of the Cascade mountains is private. But a good majority of property owners are open to the idea of allowing hunters to hunt turkeys. Thanks for watching!

@@mitchweigel6713 Thanks for the info. How do you find the owners to ask? I am new to hunting this will be my first season of anything ever and have no one to learn from.

@@theepicmole4164 ON X HUNT Maps or a similar app is worth its weight in gold. These apps will tell you property boundries, ownership of property, and much more. I would also put the word out to as many people that you know that you are a hunter. Sometimes people have issues with wild game. Deer, turkeys ect... Destroying property, lawns and gardens and such. And they would like someone to hunt them to help mitigate an issue there having with animals. I'm not sure what state you are from. But it never hurts to put in a phone call to your states department of fish and wildlife or who ever regulates your states hunting, and ask to speak to a wildlife biologist for your area. They should be able to give you an idea of where to start looking for hunting opportunities in your area. Last but not least is driving around scouting. Go out looking for what you are looking for and try to find it. I dont even want to know how much money I've spent on fuel driving around looking for animals and places to hunt. LOL! I could have probably retired by now if I had all that money today. All I can say is keep after it. It took me and my friends years of trial and error to find good hunting spots. Keep in touch, and good luck this upcoming season. Thanks again!
