Local elections in Turkey are much more important than many other places, as the mayor is not really just a mayor but a combination of a mayor, governor and a governor-general; in this sense power is quite decentralized locally and mayors wield quite a bit of power not just in a city but the whole state.

Dem didn't even win the districts, don't get it twisted. Kurds that wanted a good mayor/leader (İmamoğlu) voted with common sense. The vote gap would still persist if all Dem voters' votes were taken back from İmamoğlu. Kurds are citizens of this state, Kurds in İstanbul or Kurds in Turkey overall are not all Dem supporters. İmamoğlu got elected by EVERYONE.

Unfortunately, this doesn't benefit us much; it only indicates that Turkey is still a Kemalist country and that Erdogan's influence in the municipal council has decreased. Moreover, the projects are financed by the government, so the source of funding is Erdogan; he can choose not to allocate funds to municipalities that oppose him. It would have been more beneficial if we could have elected a new President in the first elections.

Erdoğan has done everything he could to dispel the name of Atatürk and many things related to his legacy. He failed, he is not even as strong as a single germ when compared to Atatürk. Yes these local elections maybe will not change the current economic situation at all, probably will not also have a SIGNIFICANT EFFECT on social lives (but there will be changes in social life in CHP municipalities taken from AKP due to the different political opinions), but there will certainly be changes. Changes against Erdoğan. This is their worst defeat for now. Legacy of Atatürk rises again after 22 years of political-islamic curse. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Muslim, but never shall government and religion put together.

Yes. This was a local election which we choose local mayors for cities. But this election is important for Turkey than any other countries because the population thinks this is a small version of governing a country. If the mayor can do a good job in these cities, they will gain a huge support in the general elections showing that the country can be ruled by this party. Also, usually the mayor of Istanbul holds a huge power to get elected in the next general election as the prime minister. Istanbul was already in the hands of main opposition party but it is nice to see that people liked him and his votes were increased.
