I stumbled onto a local Turkish restaurant a decade ago. They had a traditional coffee "bar", it was the best coffee, I became good friends with the owners. We would smoke a hooka and sip coffee and talk about work problems. After the owner passed away suddenly it was never the same place

The sand thing is done for tourists, I am a 22 year old Turk and have never seen it cooked in sand personally. I drink Turkish coffee every day and we just cook it in the little pan (cezve) he uses in the video over the stove. This is sth done in tourist attractions. That's how they used to do it in the past, but no longer bc who tf would have a heated sandbox in their home?

It kinda tastes like espresso coffee but a bit stronger. Like already mentioned the coffee ground is not removed. Most of it lays down 9n the bottom of the cup but while drinking you still get fine coffee grind in your mouth. That sand is hot AF and is quite amazing how as he moves the object in the sand it seems to heat that said object up to higher degree . idk pretty cool . Update: it's a Sand Pit and they use it over an open flame allows total control over the heat . Cups left in the surface stay warm but heat can be adjusted by the depth of the coffee in the sand aka boiling coffee 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Put enough water for 1 cup of watter let it boil remove it from the stove, add coffe around 2 tea spoons is plenty for 1 cup, bring it back over the stove and wait, when it starts to come up poure it out just a bit and do the same thing again for about 2 more times. Add a teaspoon of sugar, mix it and have fun drinking it.

As a Turk, Firstly, I must say that I can understand from his accent that the man in the video is not from Turkey. Turkish coffee is not an easy coffee. First of all, the coffee beans must be fresh and of high quality. This is a very important detail because it contains only coffee and no other ingredients. The guy in the video is doing this the wrong way. First, he needs to pour the coffee and add warm water to it. If you do it this way, you will get a softer coffee. In addition, he could not get the foam of the coffee into the cup, or the coffee was of poor quality and did not foam well. I drink Turkish coffee at least 3 times a day and I think I do pretty well. Turkish coffee is not drunk everywhere because you will probably get a different taste every time you drink it. You may not like it once you drink it, but it may become your favorite the next time you drink it because it is a type of coffee that requires real knowledge to make.

To add to the explanation someone else already made, the heat that is contained in the sand then releases into the container directly as it is moved through the sand. If you've ever cooked a pile of food like corn or rice for instance in a microwave, you might have already observed how the top layer can be much cooler than the inner part, and when you move it with your spoon fork, or other eating utensil, the heat and steam that is released.

@@andreusallman5697 Ditto. Every process of making this style of coffee can have different results. You could give the same ground and tools to two people and one would demolish the coffee whilst the other cup would taste like it's out of pure heaven. turkish coffee is really strong. it has its own distinct bitter-ish taste, that's why we serve it with a glass of water and turkish delight. when we finish the drink we flip the cup upside down and place it on the cup's plate. after some time we use the leftover coffee on the cup for fortune telling. we also make sure that the coffee has some foam too. we drink turkish coffee anytime of the day but we especially choose to serve it (we also serve tea) when guests come or when someone is getting married. this is our culture.
