Ayran you should drink with a proper Iskender kebab on a hot day, the salt and yoghurt compliment the meat, cut the fat and if it’s hot it also adds a nice cold dimension. Ayran just rocks during summer, so many great food memories from my months of working in Istanbul for a Turkish TV operator :) tip: shake it until really frothy.

My suggestion to you friends is to take an Istanbul Street Food tour immediately when the Turkish economy is living the worst years of it's history. There is a huge difference between the Turkish food you eat in Europe and the food you eat in Turkey. These are all Europish way of Turkish Foods. There must be only cheese in the Gözleme. Döner and Kebab are two different things. In Turkiye we only put meat and some salad in Döner and also Dürüm. German based Döner is all around Europe and that's why they put too much stuff like sauce to make it a greasy form which is not healthy. Dürüm does not contains meatballs Etc.

Thanks for the video, it's great to see people from other cultures taste foreign food ☺If I might, I just wanted to give my opinion about these 'Turkish' food: - Typically the gözleme is made with spinach and white (feta) cheese, or a spicy potato mash mixture. As a Turkish guy who lived there for 24 years, I personally never had a gözleme with sucuk and eggs. - The döner schotel (porsiyon döner in Turkish) will typically just be served with some wraps or some kind of rice (white rice or bulgur), grilled veggies and salad, not with french fries. - The broodje döner will normally be served in another type Turkish bread, but at some shops you can find this type of round bread too which is usually called 'gobit'. The ingredients are mostly more simple and Turkish people definitely don't use any garlic sauce. Usually it's served with tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickles. Sometimes they add some kind of tomato sauce or ketchup and sometimes mayonnaise. That is also the case for dürüm döner. There is though a certain style of döner which is called Hatay or Antakya style which is usually served in a wrap and includes fries, some vegetables, tomato sauce and garlic mayo. - Falafel is originally from Lebanon, in Türkiye there are not many places where you can find falafel. But in the last years with the refugees from Syria, there are a few more falafel shops which are opened in Türkiye. - The kapsalon is indeed invented in the Netherlands and 999/1000 döner shop owners in Türkiye haven't even heard about this dish and it's almost impossible to find in Türkiye. Thanks for reading! ❤

I'm not someone that complains about "cultural appropriation" ever but there is no other way to describe German attitude towards Doner. Literally every single German I've ever met is convinced that Doner was actually invented in Germany. When in reality, Doner existed for hundreds of years before Turks ever moved to Germany. Before the 18 hundreds it was roasted horizontally, till some chef in Bursa came up with the brilliant idea to do it vertically because it keeps the meat more moist (the fats melt over the meat). Doner has always been sold in both restaurants as a proper meal and as fast food etc. There are three German arguments I've heard. First one: Doner doesn't exist in Turkey, only in touristy places, it was completely invented in Germany (lol). Two, Doner was invented in Germany and spread to Turkey (lol). Lastly: Yes, sure, Doner existed before. But it was Germany that reinvented it as fast food and put it in between bread with condiments. All three of these are false. But I've had Germans get incredibly offended when they mentioned how they invented doner and I pointed out that wasn't true.

You can make DIY kapsalon with frozen frikandellen. Use a cheese slicer to cut slices from the frozen frikandellen and use those instead of kebab. (you do still want to heat them up ofcourse). Pizza from a Turkish spot beats any chain restaurant like Dominos or NY Pizza btw. It's almost half the price, they bake their pizzas properly (so no half baked slab of floppy dough) and you get decent toppings. Id say you covered all of the essentials though

Hoe? Lahmacun is available every single Doner Kebab joint and Turkish restaurant. You can even buy Durum Doner that uses a lahmacun as the wrap instead of a lavas / yufka (tortilla) bread.

You might not see this comment but! , As a Turk born in The Netherlands and raised here i would like to do a little reccomendation . The Turkish food scene here is a wreck its mostly dominated by people who love to sell cheap meat to tourists or Dutch people who dont know the ''authentic'' taste of the real deal so they just eat it as long as you put enough sauce on it to mask the taste . If you want to eat good Turkish ''street food '' style food here in the Netherlands i would reccomend the restaurants the Syrians opened here . Its 99% the same as Turkish food and its still more authentic since those people have not yet been here for to long . Damas in The hague's gouverneurlaan is 1 of my favorite and they have a bakkery right across the street that has some off menu bangers like there falafel wraps . Maxima in the Zeehelden kwartier has some top tier doner kebab where they have actually good quality meat for both chicken and beef . On the erasmusweg you have a wooden shack where the guy sells doner kebab that he stacks himself each day fresh not factory made which i also recommend .

In general I would say that if you eat a dish with a foreign origin you have a big chance that the dish is altered from it's original due to local circumstances like the local taste and the availability of ingredients. Look at Indonesian restaurants or Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands. The dishes there are adapted for the Dutch taste. If you appreciate the dishes as they are presented there is no problem with that of course but some times they don't really compare good with the originals.

This is really interresting, and to me, surpricing. Wherever you go in Europe (Scandinavia, Benelux, Germany, Austria etc etc) you will find Turkish take-aways (type Doner Kebab) but also sit down restaurants with fantastic food. What makes it so surpricing to me is that YOU never came across it before you moved to Europe. Here it is staple food almost on the whole continent... however, you have missed some amazing Turkish food. Among the fast food you might find 'Kofte'. Minced meat on a stick with LOADS of herbs. It might sound abit basic, but the herbs lift the meat to new hights. If you happens to have a jar of 'Ajvar' to dip them in, you just entered food heaven. (In former Yugoslavia they have a version called Chivapchichi... even more wonderful). . In Turkish restaurants you can also get a kind of breakfast you NEVER tasted before. Its a BIG bowl of something that looks like tomato soup, but it is so full of flavor that you can't even work out just what is in there... and then you eat that with bread from the stone oven. It will fill you up really well, but you will not feel over-full as you might feel after a lot of 'western' breakfasts.

Turkish drinks are probiotic. If the food is very delicious, it becomes healthy with probiotic drinks. Ayran, turnip juice, boza, kefir, pickle juice, etc. Their taste may seem unusual when you first drink it, but you will like it in the long run because they are very healthy. Lahmacun is not a Turkish pizza, it is in a different category. Also, the first pizza you show is a normal pizza, only made the Turkish way. Our closest dish to pizza is pita, which has an elongated oval appearance, like a boat, rather than a round one. There is a big difference between the Turkish food you eat abroad and the food you eat in Turkey. Please come to our country and try it again. You will not regret it. Thank you for the video.

Kapsalon is not Turkish, the real story behind this kapsalon comes from Rotterdam... a turkish restaurant was located next to a barbershop and one of the barbers was getting his food from this restaurant day in day out..he asked the restaurant if they can make him something so he could eat it fast: a bowl of meat with fries on top and veggies with sauces aka the kapsalon...the reason this restaurant called his creation a kapsalon because the dutch name for barber is kapsalon and because of the this guy its called kapsalon...so the barber invented the kapsalon. Now you all know the truth behind the kapsalon...btw its nasty i mean how likes wet fries soaked with garlicsauce and sambal with warm lettuce...i mean come on

It's funny how kapsalon is from Rotterdam, but the best one you find in Sinbad in Amsterdam. P.S. Yes, trying to start a holy kapsalon war. Surely enough, there are good places to buy the dish all over the Netherlands, and you probably can't taste all to decide. Some local places in small towns make it in a really delicious way. Depends pretty much on the meat, components, and the sauce. Some add jalapeños to the dish for the spice
