Merhaba! A couple of days ago we got back from a little trip around Turkey. We were in Antalya, Fethiye (+ Ölüdeniz) and Istanbul. It was our third trip, but this time we were afraid that we would be treated worse because of the situation in Ukraine, especially the Europeans. But we did not meet any negativity at all. Perhaps this is “survivorship bias”, but I tell it like it is. Besides Turks and Russians we met Germans, English and Spaniards and even Mexicans. In Istanbul we saw a lot of people of other nations, but we didn't have a chance to talk to them. About Russians: imho, in every nation there are good and bad people, intelligent and impolite. And the more you travel, the better you understand the diversity. You get away from clichés. I understand that Russians are associated with alcohol and rudeness, but I think that was true for the 1970s-1990s, when it was a very difficult time and then people drank not just for fun, but to escape from reality. I've seen Finns with red faces coming back on the ferry from Tallinn, I've seen very drunk Germans and Englishmen, but that doesn't mean they are all like that. Personally, we drink alcohol very rarely, as do our friends and family. But that's just our circle. Yes, Russians can be rude, but often the “rudeness” can be unintentional and caused by stress or disorientation. For example, many people find it easier to just walk away from a person if they don't understand what they are saying. To me this seems comical, but to others it may seem like arrogance. This time I learned more words and phrases in Turkish than in previous times (which this channel helped with), and I enjoyed using them when talking to the locals. Of course, these are not full-fledged conversations, but it's nice to see people smiling when you try to speak their language. I think it's easier for a Russian to learn Turkish than English, because the structure of the language is more understandable. Especially there are a lot of similar words that got into Russian from Turkic languages. About Turkey: last time we were in March 2019, in Istanbul. There was excellent spring weather, there were no huge crowds of tourists. That time we visited many beautiful and interesting places and tasted a lot of delicious food. This time it was noticeably warmer and there were a lot of tourists. Last time we felt that Turkey was a neater country, because after arriving in Russia, I started to notice flaws in the surroundings more often. For example, moving from the airport to another airport in Moscow, I noticed three different night signs with broken letters. However, this time we noticed that there was more litter on the streets in Turkey than in our country. Especially in the tourist areas. At first we thought it was the tourists' fault, but soon we saw the locals themselves littering. I am not saying that we have perfect cleanliness, but the streets of Beyoğlu look very untidy. I hope this is not an indicator for the whole country. All the Turks we interacted with were very friendly and we tried to reciprocate. In touristy places almost everyone speaks English, but if you go to less touristy places (where we like to look for real life), there are not many locals who speak English, but it does not prevent communication on a basic level. By the way, this is similar to most countries in the world. There are a lot of mosques in Turkey and there are often hotels or apartments where you can hear the muezzins very well in the morning. In Antalya, for example, the call to prayer sounded very melodic and pleasant. In Istanbul we also heard beautiful afternoon calls to prayer, but unfortunately near our hotel they were less euphonious. I know you can eat very good food in Turkey, but you have to know where and when. This is true of every country. This time we were less lucky than the previous time. In Antalya and Fethiye we mostly had to eat in tourist restaurants and cafes where the food was mediocre. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat where the locals did. In Istanbul one night we were left hungry because we took too long with dinner and didn't want sweets, Italian or Japanese food and other touristy dishes. We love Italian and Japanese food, but we wanted succulent meat on lavash with vegetables and Turkish yogurt, drinking everything with ayran. But it was already more than 20:00 and for two hours of searching we did not find what we were looking for. At this time the döner and stores were already closed, which was strange for us. In Russia, finding a store with food at night is not a problem. Perhaps we were foolish and were looking in the wrong place 🤷♂ We can talk about food endlessly, but I will touch on one topic that I think many Russians care about: shawarma and dürüm. In our country, meat from a vertical spit wrapped in lavash with vegetables and sour-milk sauce is called shawarma or shaverma. It is not a traditional Russian dish, but it has already become a part of Russian culture, just like shashlik (shish kebab) or dumplings. I don't know exactly how it got to Russia in the form it has now, but it must have happened while living closely with Turkic and Caucasian peoples. In general, many Russians will compare these dishes in different countries. Unfortunately I have not tried döner in Europe, but there were expectations of eating something similar to shawarma in Turkey. This time I tried three different dürüms, but in taste and composition it was something different. Three times is very little to draw a conclusion, but these dishes lacked the juiciness we are used to. One of them had strange ingredients like corn or potatoes. I would like to know what dishes the locals eat and how exactly, because with the example of Italian food it seems like the whole world eats it the wrong way :) TV in Turkey. Personally, we don't watch TV at home, but it's interesting to see what's on in another country. The rooms had cable or satellite TV, lots of channels. At first impression, 40% of them showed news or discussed politics. Another 30% were soap operas. The rest were shows: cooking, traveling and music. In general, the content was similar, but the number of channels with news and politics seemed much higher. We thought that in Russia advertising lasts forever, but it seems to be the same story in Turkey :) We like Turkey, so hope to be there more than once. To see more, to learn more, to taste more.

At 2:20 -> "bir tane yakın rus arkadaşım oldu" means "I had one close russian friend." -> "bir arkadaşım vardı" means "I had one friend" -> two sentences meanings are different but both of them is correct At 4:46 -> zaten meaning close to already (not same tho) -> Idk how the explain that thats actually is a false use of words but for native Turkish speakers its just makes sense 🤷♀️🤷♀️
@Horusian Жыл бұрын
zaten is close to "already" as meaning. In this context, she kind of secretly built two sentences in this one sentence. She actually answered the question by sayin "we already know little bit about them because they come to Turkey for tourism" . So instead of building extra seperate sentence like "we already know little bit about them", she just put "already" inside this sentence : ("Turkiye'ye geliyorlar zaten turizm icin"). So yeah we do that a lot in Turkish. Especially with "zaten" . Sorry for the challange :)

One topic kept creeping up, ECONOMICS ! The TR lost 77% of its value in 2-3 years vs hard currency while salaries are paid in TL . It’s priority one for Turks ! Never mind Syrians, Russians, Chinese martians or whomever, you MUST find ways to improve your dire economic situation. EU membership is out of the question and therefore must do something about ur dire economic free fall, can and will get worse (review the last 3 yrs and > 75% devaluation of the TL), The time for change / drastic measures must be undertaken now, not tomorrow, you’ll only sink in deeper without action. Remember, all conflicts in human history had and have one common denominator and that’s being >>> ECONOMICS !

Hrllo! I am studying in Russia, i am from Turkey. In russia if you are not white you can not entry to club, they are racist. et me tell you about another incident that happened to me. i got on the bus and a black boy got on the bus. an old woman pushed a black boy down from the bus, while the Russian people on the bus just watched this incident. another incident happened to a Chinese friend of mine just 3 weeks ago. it is forbidden to smoke at the bus stop, he was smoking away from the bus stop, other Russian people were smoking there, the police came and wanted to write a fine on the Chinese boy, when the Chinese boy wanted to take a video, the cops did not write a fine Another incident happened - Russia, I forgot my bag at the airport(I have my passport in it). i went back to the airport to get my passport, asked the security where my bag was, a man said that he had my security bag, but because it had a passport in it, it was a crime, he couldn't give it to me, they said you had to go back to Turkey. then he said follow to me please. than we went into a room together, we're talking there, there's no one there. i also want to give 100 rubles(2 usd) tea money, um, I told you, when he heard this offer, he gave my bag back. another incident, I went to Novosibirsk just a trip. the card payment system does not work on the buses there, you just pay cash or send it to the phone bank (we send the money to the phone number.) i got on the bus, when I found out that the card did not pass, I said that I could send it to the phone number. so he said ok and said the number, I didn't understand because he said it so quickly. when he realized that I was a stranger. if you didn't understand, he said fuck off the bus and threw me off the bus! the strange thing is that there were a lot of people on that bus, no one wanted to help me and did not defend me, such a nation are Russians!

Good people, very warm blooded, but at first you should break the ice and establish trust, after that Americans have very similarities to us, both good and bad. Americans care about their privacy more, and have a lot of gimmicky behaviors, but its due to state having less effect on their growth rather than Turkey where state always has a part in our education and ethics. Most Americans are a little bit dumb, but I can say the same for Turkey. We are not good at education part. Other common things I can think of, Americans love food and fat heavy things like us, Americans are patriotic like us and this comes with the bad as well. Both societies can be liars and cheaters, money is the most important thing in both. We both fought British to get our freedom, we both love our founding fathers. That's about it. American government is evil, but American public are overall very good people.

Those names you tell are actually related to past generations and religious belief (sad history of religon used for politcs by the rulers all arund the world) although our belief was allways much different than Arabs or Fars. Additionally anything about Islam is based on Aramic and Hebrew , translted to Arab culture. All prophets are Hebrew and Aram, same as names of angels, names of dua s 'surah' (in Arabic), even the name of deity comes from Elloh im and A ilah, lah etc.. translated to Arabic. In the past Türks used both original Türk but a second Islamic (Originally Hebrew-Aramic) name and then sadly turned more of those religous names. Thanksfully the Turkish revolution fixed it back to Turkish origins. We have nothing common with Saudi continent if you call North African , they arent Arab but Magrib. Lebanese and Jordan are also not Arab they are Kenan/Fenike. Egyptian are also a nation of their own. We Türkiye Türks are Oğuz Türk (who originally worshipped Tengri/Tanrı single creator when Arabs worshipped hundreds of Stone and wood Idols) Türks which also mixed with Anatolian people. (Not invading Western seaside Greek, not Northern mountain invader Armenian but the Original Anatolian peoples) I hope one day everyone gets back to its roots. I dont mean dna here so not racism but the culture before Arab Islam/Latin Catholic/East Roman Orthodox etc imperialism or any other religious imperialism and culture erosion. So unite with Humanism.

Mongol invasion in the 13th Century changed Russia's culture even to this day, and not for better unfortunately.

That is not true. Türks and Mongols (Both were free and secular same as Slavs and all tribes used to fight eachother for riches and territory ,sadly. So it was a Türk Khanate allied to a Slav Boyar and Mongol khanate allied to another Slav Boyar etc. When some Germanic tribe allied to another Boyar. Then some other Scandinavian one comes and beats the other...Ancient wars were all gray. Ancient peoples were mixing continiously. They didnt care for ethnicity or religion at ancient times) They had nothing to do with Religious bigots of later Dark age/Medieval times where Christinaity and Islam spread all across the continents and start erasing ancient cultures. Abrahamic religons and Globalism taking control using the religons ruined the world. Peoples and cultures today is mix of all ancient cultures. Hopefully peole will come together even more.
