The demo at Copper mountain in Colorado is free of charge. I think you need an ID, and maybe credit card to register. Follow Donek Snowboards on Instagram for more info. You'll also need your own bindings that have standard 4x4 or 4x2 mounting options.

Ryan, love your vids!!! I was at Copper 22-24 MAR, just missed you. My son and I were looking for you, we might have been on the other side of the mountain. Had a great time out there, we're from Indiana, and the snow was basically non existent this year. 9 more months of watching your vids until we can hit the snow again.

End of season greetings from Estonia. Had my first season on Donek. Season itself was quite awesome, it's been several years since such a good winter weather, and the Donek's Knapton Twin is simply amazing. W 30.5cm, R 10.5m, L 154, flex 8 adjusted to ~75kg and boot size is 41.5 (EU), board turned out to be quite well balanced for our small local hills and how crowded (or sometimes not) the slopes are. At first the edge changes was a bit goofy as it takes a while compared to narrow boards (felt the same as going from W64mm R12 skis to W105mm R17 skis) but carving on low angles came really fast, which felt amazing and is extremely addictive. Could easily manage board with a bigger radius (if only local slopes would be wider), to enjoy even longer turns. Otherwise width and overall board stability was perfect, great board concept and design by Ryan Knapton and Donek. Whilst enjoying the board as much as I could, I handed it out to few friends and a "random person" as well. More capable, advanced and expert snowboarders, really liked the board (some of who is now quite interested in Knapton Twin now) whilst for intermediate riders it was a bit too much to handle. And one day at the end of the ski/snowboard day a "random person" approached me and asked "Is that a Donek!?".. Apparently he has been following your posts and videos to become a better snowboarder and he was quite sure (with minor doubts) what snowboard I was using and who's videos and posts I've been following. I ended up persuading him to try my board (as he was carving with his rather soft ~W27cm board very skilfully and I had no doubts that we could easily manage Knapton Twin as well) as it might be the only Knapton Twin in Estonia and probably would not get another chance to try one before a potential purchase. He only had time for two the descents but he pretty much nailed those as well. 🤙🤙🤙 Shout out to you, "random person", who's name I failed to ask.

in Steep its benefitial to go with high edgeangle right from the start (starting with real small turnradius), getting the G-Force right up to where your limit is, and gradually letting off the angle troughout the turn, as you pick up speed... resulting in kind of constant G-Force... this will stopp you from getting overwelmed later in the turn by the speed that you pick up, during wide radius while in the fall-line. (learning to set an edge "faster and faster" and more purposefully, will open up so much more terrain for carving ... think rock hard ice in professional skiing) Think of Car-Racing kind of hard on the Brakes and Cornering to start with, early apex and then carrying as much exit speed as possible... Think of fibonacci spirals (like Snailshells or a bass clef) ... this also makes perfect safe and easy flowing berms in Bikeparks even with next to no hight to the berm... been there shaping them then again in Carving its all about playing with different turn shapes ... you've got to master them all to really be free and creative ... constant radius, shortening radius, opening radius... it's the fun to play with them like different patterns of music rising up, falling down, beeing subtle, beeing powerfull ... its all about the variety and the composition... like Waves interfering, resonating, canceling each other, beeing in sync! Have a think, pause, and then let your emotions and mood paint right into the snow, while acknowlegeing the terrain and playing with it rather than against it! (sometimes it shure feels right to fight the elements and the odds, but if you continue on that pass you'll eventually wear yourself out... as it goes for all of life)

Hey Ryan! I recently bought a Donek Twin, and obviously it feels very different from narrower board but I’m excited to learn how to ride it. I am wondering if you have any tip on stand width. I noticed your stand width seems to be quite a bit wider than your shoulder, is that something that you recommend? Also any tip on the position of the binding vertically on the board? Currently I think my binding is closer to my toe side, which makes toe to heel turn very difficult. Not sure if there’s something that you recommend or just entirely personal preferences. Thanks!

I finally got my edge to really hook up and carve last week, and the board turned so sharply it scared me a little. I tried to duplicate it for the rest of the session, but it seems subconscious fear just wouldn't let me. I'll keep trying. (Doesn't help that my local hill is only 72 m / 230 ft tall. Runs are over way too fast.)
@choyMM

I hear ya. Where I usually go the main lift has mostly narrow runs and it only opens up in an area where the runs converge. There's a big wide blue run on another part of the resort that's would have been perfect for carving but it's short and you'd get 3-5 turns before you get to the next section with narrower and steeper runs. I wish I could go often to big mountain resorts where there's space to really practice carving.

Spend time riding very mellow with staying on a low edge angle, traversing back and forth across the run. Hours and hours of gliding on the edges rather than constantly using the edge to 'brake'. Keep a very sharp awareness of those above you. The transitions between those edges can be the tricky part. Mellow runs. Glide not skid and make it feel good on the body. Hope that helps and happy shredding.

Awesome video, if you don’t mind me asking are you on a stiff board ? I’m on the general public, I bought it to learn in and it’s been ace. I’m able to carve on it and get my hands down but not near a euro carve. I’m convincing myself that it’s my board and not my technique lol. I appreciate someone decent would be able to do it on my board but would i be better getting a stiffer board or just getting my head down and working harder? I’ve been told the level I’m at is high end intermediate/advanced rider. Cheers
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton 2 жыл бұрын
I'm on a stiff board. Other factors are way wider than most boards so I don't have toe or heel overhang. And then for speeds, almost everyone rides faster than their sidecut radius wants to. I'm on very experimental specs with moving up and up with the radius, and whenever I go back down on previous boards, or try others, I just have to slow down to be in harmony with the turns it wants to make.

Anyone else find carving messes their lower back up? I skate bowl a lot and have no issues but recently it seems each time I go snowboarding I mess my back up. I love carving around with smooth lines but even then I think it maybe just involves more “judder” than skating. Is there just something about “getting low” that makes you more prone?
