That was my first thought too. The method used in this video is ridiculously time consuming, overly complicated due to the device's design, and it carries a great risk of damaging the device.

A sticker will still look like a sticker. Lazy solutions are never the best in my opinion. This mod shown in the video is better, at the end it looks like it was done from factory.

Nice modification, it's a shame that Apple themselves didn't offer custom Apple logo colors from the factory, or in fact any backlit Apple logo in recent computers. I probably wouldn't be brave enough to do this, however.

reminds me of my old white ibook g3, where you could take the plastic back of the screen, dump 97-99% IPA which dissolves the pain, and you could make a clear case

IF MEMORY SERVES... Many years a go there was a mod you could do with iPhones where you could take the back glass off and insert a thin film of electroluminescent panel, hook it up to the electronics and it would glow during phone use etc... 🤔 😎🇬🇧

i did a very similar modification to a Powerbook G3 Pismo, and put one of the older rainbow Apple stickers in place of the default white logo. Turns out they were the same size, so it was a perfect match! only catches, was that on those older powerbooks, the apple logo appeared upside-down when opened, and back then, i was not aware of the significance of anything rainbow colored, so i might have gotten some weird looks back then. My thinking was that i was honoring Apple's original multicolored symbol on its (at the time) newer hardware.

This is one of my favorite mods to do for clients, those who've asked me to do it absolutely love it! Instead of cellophane, I use these $0.99 flat, clear plastic document holders, and I can get enough material for at least 5 MacBooks per colored plastic envelope thingy. Staples, Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart all have some variation of the flat plastic envelope (it does seem like Hobby Lobby has the biggest variety of colors though) They come in so many different colors, and the material is thin yet the color is deep, letting a surprising amount of light through. Another great material is dust picker-upper stickers that come with most tempered glass screen protectors. There may be different colors out there somewhere, but I've never seen any color aside from blue. They're extremely thin and highly translucent (so you can see through them while picking up small dust pieces before installing a tempered glass). They work like an absolute charm, again, as long as you want a blue logo. I'd say dust-removal stickers are a near perfect material for this mod (AS LONG AS YOU'RE OKAY WITH BLUE 🙂). Thanks for this video Hugh! This is a fun mod to do, and when a client sees their MacBook's logo glowing a color other than the standard white, well it's always rewarding to see someone so excited! 🙂👍

Another fun mod that's similar to this one, but with WAY MORE DRAMATIC results is. . . THE DISCO IMAC MOD!! First things first Take EVERYTHING out of the iMac (21.5" & 27" models for best results) and then punch out the Apple logo plate from the chassis. Replace it with a curved piece of semi-transparent acrylic (or even transparent, some people really dig being able to see inside the machine, although you can't see a ton, so IMHO, the LEDs are definitely necessary). Use a small piece of very thin acrylic, along with a strong adhesive, using clamps so the acrylic conforms to the inside of the chassis, laying flush with the back. I then install a Bluetooth controlled RGB strip, powered via the USB pins, sans USB connector. Simply cut off the type A connector and solder the wires to the bottom side of the thru- hole USB pins on one of the USB ports. BTW, MAKE DAMN SURE THAT YOU MAP THE PORT AND TEST IT WITH A METER BEFORE PROCEEDING (You'll be soldering on the side of the board that faces you when you're looking at the iMac head on. (after taking the display off, look at the bottom right hand side of the board. Then when they boot up the machine, the Bluetooth controlled RGB LED strip that you've strategically snaked through the chassis will light up with whatever pattern you like! It'll be very bright as it cycles through the colors; the occasional times I've done this mod for someone I'll use the popular 'breathing' pattern. That's a good amount of light inside the chassis as well. That's a good amount of light inside the chassis, and so it pours forth from the Apple logo, and if the iMac is on a table with a wall behind her, she'll light up the whole damn wall!! I can't remember what compelled me to do that the first time, but that's quite a fun mod as well. And for anyone concerned, nope, you're NOT hurting your USB ports, the power draw from the 5V multicolored LED strip is negligible. Thanks again Hugh! 🙂👍 🙂👍

Where can I find the info to send you a phone? Its a Google Pixel 6 (carrier unlocked). I dropped it face down and the screen went black. The outer glass is still in perfect condition, as is the back. I believe the OLED screen has a small crack causing the issue.

Definitely not for the faint of heart. I see quiet a few comments saying they'd color it from the outside, and that indeed would be easier, but this way is best for an OEM look, and if you wanted a photo rather than a color.

I thought you might have done a homage to the Apple logo from the Apple II era, 80’s/early 90’s, with the rainbow stripes coloured logo. That would have been much more difficult to achieve, of course (having to cut and link several coloured strips together) but would have been a nice touch.
