Just did the same to my 2006 Chevy 2500 forged wheels. After stripping, I used 0000 steel wool with Mother's polish on the rough spots. Then I used the Mother's Power Ball polisher on my electric drill. After a through wash with Simple Green, dry, and apply a ceramic coating. No need to recoat with a clear coat when you can use the new ceramic type coating. Place ceramic coating every six months. The salt is what ruins the clear coat as it eats off the coating and turns the wheel white underneath the coating. I did one wheel a day, as I am an old guy.

A gray scotch Brite pad works really well to remove stuck on residue when stripping.

Hit them next time with 1200-2500 grit wet paper then polish and they will look like a mirror. They look great!

I was hoping to get some SS ones from ebay, but everyone says that the letters fade really quickly. May just have to get the stock bowtie ones.

In your opinion what type of item should I use for my wire wheels ? The clear coat will come off but I know I will have to scrub some but do you think a rag may help? I can't use anything abrasive like a brillo pad

That's tough. Chrome can be easily damaged. A dremel with a buffing wheel and some polishing compound may be the answer.

They look fantastic, but you do need to keep on top of them. If I get tired of polishing them, I may clear coat them again.

I'm stuck doing something similar but mines were insanely corroded. Had to sand blast them and now need to polish them. I hope they come up alright.

What state are you in? I have coated aluminum 20s on my 2008 Silverado and they look factory still, minus the need for a polish/waxing. Im in Ohio, but only 40,000 miles on it. So the prior owner either washed it a lot, or drove very little in winter salt as the complete absence of rust would suggest

This was mainly a Florida vehicle. The clearcoat just got so cloudy.

Could the cold have an effect on this ? Tried three different strippers including the one you used left them on the recommended time and a pressure washer and nothing is taking this off

You don't have to polish them. Just getting the clear coat off will make them look better.
