It looks like a lot overlap of skills you pick up slow-riding motorcycles. I always used the look and turn your head where you want to go and your body will follow. Target fixation is the same - look at it and you're going to hit it.

Thanks for the video! I try to get out as often as I can and do these exact drills. I completely agree with you that nothing replaces just getting out and getting miles on the wheel. I have a friend who has put over 2000 miles on his Nikola after only 4 months. In addition to those drills I also just ride out on San Francisco streets to get accustomed to traffic and going between street and bike lanes. I force myself to hit small potholes, manhole covers, train tracks to get accustomed to hitting them at speed. The spiked pedals and Clark Pads I installed also definitely help keep me on the wheel. I had to get used to those but they are so much better than stock pedals and pads. After nearly 500 miles on the Nikola I feel very comfortable due to the muscle memory you mentioned.

Totally! Im playing around with some spiked pedals now also. I do like them alot

Getting mileage definitely helps a lot! I recently got my EUC 4 days ago and have already put 30ish if not more miles on it. It was hard at the start but once you get it and get going, balance, turning, stopping, and a bunch of stuff kind of just comes naturally. I have seen my balance immensely improve each time I go out and ride a few miles.

I wish there was someone in NYC like you who taught this. Once I learned to do uncomfortable things on my Segway PT years ago thanks to my neighbor who taught me, I became fearless on it. I need to be pushed on my EUC. I’m definitely a slow, safe zone rider which doesn’t make me a great one.

My favorite place to practice slalom is in a parking lot where two lines of cars park nose to nose. The white lines make an X every ten feet or so. In a big parking lot you get a ton of turning in.

@@GoGeorge Today was my 3rd attempt... Tried in an open car park, holding my wife's elbow! This generally worked and I did a few lengths of the car park, about 1.5 km. What I found discouraging was sometimes I'd feel I was going off-course, knew I was going off-course, tried to correct going off-course, but went off-course anyway?? Like I knew I wanted to turn the wheel (KS 16X) to the right but it was just going left and ignored me trying to twiddle it to the right. Clearly I needed to do more than twisting my feet, but I'm not sure what, exactly? I don't want to over-think it but some basic mechanical guidance would help? Like should I have pushed my hips to the left and leaned my shoulders right? Bend my knees and press down hard on the right pedal? Watching someone already used to it, you don't really see what they're doing to create the turn. I'm familiar with counter-steering a motorbike but I'm not sure how this works?

So do you lean with the leg to go that direction? Like lean with left leg to turn left? Or do you control the lean with the right leg to turn left? Basically prevent the EUC from falling left side by putting weight on right leg?

Just got my first EUC and wondering: On a V10, how do you accommodate the added weight in the wheel? I noticed when I'm stepping off/on, and trying to turn, the weight of the wheel feels unbalanced between my legs. That might just be because I'm not used to it though, but I thought i might as well ask y'all :)
@GoGeorge3 жыл бұрын
Just need to build up the strength to hold it. It will be the same problem with every new bigger heavier wheel you get until you develop the leg muscles to hold it
