Watching your channel convinced me it was possible to buy Hordes minis for D&D and re-purpose them for my campaign. Picked up a dozen poorly painted and primed minis for under $20 and been having a blast putting them back together after stripping them and testing paint schemes. Any tips on skaven and what to buy for them? Mostly because theres no videos for what i should do with Skaven
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Skaven is an interesting army. There are so many options with all of the clans, and so many opportunities to mix with other factions. Clan skryre is probably the most popular, they have stormfiends as battle line and all of the cool weapon teams. I tend to gravitate towards pestilence and skryre. But there are seriously a ton of options. As far as buying them, the easiest way to get into skaven right now is with the new carrion empire set and the starter box for pestilence. From there it’s just filling out the rest of the army with the pieces that fit with the keywords within the clan. Lastly...the new book allows you to mix all of the clans and play a hugely varied army, you will need 60 clan rats to do that, but it’s a good way to play whatever models you think are cool looking or just fun :) Hope that helps a little :)

I still feel there's a little more to add which could really pop this piece. His feet don't have any weight to them, one of them looks to almost float. Rougher terrain that his foot is embedded into, will give the weight. His broken foot could be easily worked into the piece by roughing around the area and adding some putty to replicate stitches that you see around his arms. The metal and skin contrast doesn't pop so much and his back area feels quite flat - the tail could be so slightly a different skin shade (though hairless) there would be differentiation. The added cables to his guns which you've painted red/yellow/blue seem to stray from the piece somewhat and detract from the gritty feeling. His crystal cannon could have more detail on the paint to bring out its texture. There's some of the glowing rune highlighting in places where it wouldn't be and also missing where it should (see back left shoulder orb), and it looks like some of the engraved areas around the runs could also have an inner glow rather just the glyph. His belt too blends into his body and looks like it should be a different colour to break up the body a bit. It does seem as though there's just a blanket 'orange metal' coating on all the metallic parts and nothing really has any personality behind it, even if it had grey steel rivets and bolts.

@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Sure, so I used pva glue to make a run for the water, covered that in static grass, then used woodland scenics realistic water, it comes pre mixed in a squirt bottle :) I just made sure the rim was good so it didn’t spill out and poured it in, the green was just escorpena green one drop at a time right in the middle on the water until I liked the way it looked, it spreads out naturally. Then I just let it dry and it was good to go :) Hope that helps!

The 8 has the same camera as the 10 I believe. I’m just using the standard record feature. It really helps to have a ton of light though, I’ve got an led shop light above me about 3 feet, and 2 smaller led ring lights on either side, it does help quite a bit for a clearer picture :)

Great job on that conversion. I have started trying to get braver with my kitbashing, but I am still too green to try something like this. Maybe with the Bones IV order I am getting I will be braver and try to stretch the wings more since there will be a flood of minis in the house. I am curious though, and I can ask this on FB also if you prefer, but what are you searching for when you do the scans. I do not have a 40k or AoS background, so I am never sure what is a good partial conversion or what is the standard model.

Thanks! It’s definitely good to practice on inexpensive minis and just see what happens. I probably wouldn’t have done this if the model was brand new. As far as eBay searching, im in the middle of doing a video right now. Im hoping to finish it and post it in the next few days. Just general search terms and filters, that kind of thing. Hopefully that will answer your questions!

How do you deal with all the overlapping parts
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Once you find a good fit with the body you use green stuff or a filler compound to blend the new plastic into the surrounding areas, it doesn’t always work out, but in this case, the straps on his back were supposed to hold something anyways, so it looks more natural than it might otherwise.
@cole47835 жыл бұрын
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Im sorry, I meant in regards to the paint. I always have issues with prebuilt models and getting paint into the hard to reach areas but you seem to have no problems even with an air brush. Are there touchups we dont see or does an airbrush tend to reach places brushes have a hard time getting to
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Ooooh ok. Well, there’s certainly no substitute for a brush, but if you can’t get in somewhere and you need to use the airbrush then use something like poster tack or silly putty to mask off anything you don’t want to hit at the angle you need to get in there. Otherwise it’s spray and pray or a paint brush. I try not to do anything on the model when the camera is off, I will go back and touch up mistakes, or do some glazing layers and then update on camera, but airbrushing is pretty much all there. It is hard sometimes to get into spots that are covered by other parts, but if you plan out your steps then you can go nuts with overspray and work backwards. So spray into the deepest areas first and then mask them off if you need and just work your way out. It also helps to use a black primer and start there, if you can’t reach it then more than likely the black primer will ‘hide’ the fact that you didn’t get it, it looks like shadow and way more natural than a white unpainted piece. Hope that helps :)

The Skaven switched to Chaos because that paint job for the Stormfiend that came through the post via Ebay is heresy ! what's your sonic cleaner that has a 6 hour setting and what stripped did you use ? (that green liquid, note that I'm in Europe and we probably don't have it). UPDATE: stupid me, it was Simple Green and the sonic cleaner was by Famili. I dunno what equivalent to Simple Green we have in Europe. The UK has Dettol but it's not the same as Simple Green and it's really 'gloopy' plus I'm in Spain. update 2: actually that aint true you can get 10 literes of simple green from amazon.es in Spain or simplegreen.es but it aint cheap at around 70 euros ($80) for 10 litre bottleand that's the smallest size.
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
I wish it had a 6 hour setting, the max is 8 minutes, but I let it soak for 6 hours and turned on the cleaner as often as I could. It worked almost immediately in the simple green, but I let is soak to see if I could get some of the primer off. Probably if I let it soak for a week it might have come off, but it looked good for such a short time that I didn’t bother. Most of the time I see people using Dettol, it seems to work pretty much the same whatever the consistency is. Simple Green is cheap in the US, I’m sure that’s why most people use it.
