eBay Miniature Rescues

Күн бұрын

This week, I attempt to rescue this Nightmaw I got a few months ago. The goal for this mini was to go grim and dark. There were a few minor fixes that I had to make to the model, plus some small additions of my own, but it came to me pretty clean. For the NIghtmaw and Sayl, I paid $20! Not a terrible deal at all.
Thank you for joining me on another eBay Miniature Rescue, I will see you in the next video!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues I was thinking you could also do a thumbnail like: [image of original paintjob] [big red arrow pointing right] [image of final product but it's blurred out a little] That might be a good compromise.

I saved one of my own miniatures a couple of days ago.. It was an arachnarok spider which i got for my birthday like 5 years ago, before i knew what washes were and when i didn't even thin my paints. It looked absolutely terrible looking back at it, but now i'm really happy with the finished result :D

@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend an airbrush, obviously I use one quite a bit lol. The learning curve isn’t as steep as you might think, and there are very inexpensive entry options that will still work. The best advice I can give is to just jump in and start experimenting on cheap models. Start base coating to get a feel for it, and then get in tight and try layering, the more you just go for it the better you will get :)

I use a Masters g233. It is the cheap one you can get on eBay or amazon. $30ish :) It works surprisingly well for how cheap it is, of course something like an Iwata Eclipse or a Badger Patriot is nicer, but I’ve never had too many issues with this brush.

So what I see is the first head on the left , the one with the horn ....looks like it is coming out of another mouth/head. I might have painted it to look like the lower jaw belonged to this face and there was another head growing out of it.

How do you decide which models to use an airbrush on and which one to use a paint brush with. You've done much larger models before but stuck with a brush.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
This would make a good video topic :) Pretty much though, when I get a model, I try and look for things that would make sense for the airbrush. If there are large panels, or something like a sword that isn’t surrounded by much then I will decide if it would look better with a brush or airbrush. Sometimes if there is something that would look good with an airbrush but it will take time to mask off or it will interfere with something else later I just opt for a brush, the airbrush is supposed to save time but if doing it with a brush will look good and be less time that the air then it’s probably not worth that level of detail for a standard tabletop model. Of course, if you want to get crazy and make it all look great then of course the time difference doesn’t matter and the work is worth it. For these videos I’m trying to balance both ends, time and look. So I think the decision can sometimes conflict. I want to keep writing....I think I’m gonna make a video lol. Thank you for that inspiration :) I hope at least what I said makes some sense.
@Calx9
@Calx9 5 жыл бұрын
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Absolutely! I appreciate everything you do especially when it comes to learning. I sub to you particularly because what makes you unique is the healthy balance between using a brush/airbrush. I really think knowing how to use an airbrush is key to getting smooth blends that would normally take much longer to not only learn how to do but take much longer to physically paint as well. You're my Ben Komets dude and anything you share for us beginners is always insanely appreciated. Another HUGE question if you feel like digesting on is how do you come up with your color schemes? How do you decide which colors work well with each other? What shades to use? Etc. That would be extremely helpful if you could share your thought process on how you choose your next colors during your commentary. But as always keep painting! You're the best man.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
You are too kind sir. I am still learning from people like Ben Komets! Dude is amazing for sure. That is also a good video topic!! You’re on fire man lol. A good place to start to pick color schemes is google. I type the name of the model and get a ton of results. If you are part of warhammer groups online then it’s also very helpful to just ask people to post their ‘whatever’ mini. Or search those groups for that model. Then I go from there deciding how much of something I like or if I want to mix things together. I like to free flow while I’m painting. Knowing the color wheel helps a lot because you can just reference color pairs or trios. It’s not like you have to memorize it, just get one for your wall. Quick reference :) As far as shades, they are mostly in their own categories of color. If you are going to shade something blue it’s probably best to use blue or black, or mixed together. You are just trying to get the shadows to look more natural, if you go too far one way your brain starts to say it doesn’t look right, even if you don’t know why. That being said there are lots of instances where you can break those rules, but a lot of that is trial and error, learning what you like and what looks good. I think I’ll go make a video now...thank you!!!

@eBayMiniatureRescues

They are shaping pens. If you search rubber sculpting brush that also comes up. You can usually find them in the clay and fine arts section at craft stores for pretty cheap. Online too of course, but at least where I live they seem to be less expensive in the store...not sure why.
