It would be cool to have one of those 1912 bottle openers to go with my 1912 hatchet. Love them.

Awesome. Which I had the tooling. A forged beefy cigar ashtray would be cool as well. Maybe in the future.

It's interesting that you mention the pre-atomic aspect of the steel. I heard that some companies pay a premium dollar for that kind of material and I was surprised you were getting any.

I was wondering that but I don't actually know the reason for it not being a blacksmith or metalworker myself

@@joshclark44 any steel made after the first atomic bomb has trace amounts of radiation. Pre atomic steel is highly prized by companies that make scientific equipment like MRIs and stuff because there is no trace radiation to throw off the instruments. If I could remember the KZbin video I'll share it with you

Looks epic, much better than the round one, obviously a lot more work goes into it but definitely worth it. I wonder if you could make a bottle opener in the shape of a train rail, train railception, having a mini train rail stamped with the year and you would be literally holding a piece of history.

Hey Tim, Since they're no longer an open in any direction opener, maybe stamp the 1912 on the side which has the cap lifter, so you know to push the 1912 to open the cap???🤔

Great video Tim, love the craftsmanship. And use of the rail for other things. I appreciate how you have a unique design, but your openers aren't for me though. I look for bottle openers that fit in a pocket or hook to a bet loop. Ever thought of a T shaped opener?

It is a very cool looking bottle openner and definitely not like anything I've seen before. Sadly I can't really justify buying one as I don't drink anything that has a bottle cap. What I really want to know is who's working in your shop with you?!?!?!? You didn't accidentally build on a grave site or something? 😂

What size rail is it? It will be near the date it should have like 1912 or 1929 then dash marks are the month then it will have the weight of the rail or you cut off 3 feet and weigh it. Like small rail is 90, 100,107? 112,115 119, 131 then big rail 132,136,140, 150,155 every 3 feet is how much it weighs plus if it's sick rail meaning it's drilled for bars and depending on date you can some times tell the size rail bye the drilling measurements. Oh it's 1912 so it's small rail there was no high speed trains back then like our Acela that's does 165 mph through Rhode Island

Love your videos. My only probelm is, since you moved your shop, your videos have a more depressing and less exciting feeling. I know that it is not you our your style since both did not realy change. After some time iI think it is the lack of natural light in your shop combined with those empty grey walls. Your Last sshop was open and bright but the new one is currently just kinda dark. For me that just changs the feeling/dynamic the video gives of. I hope you understand what I mean, english ain´t my primary language.

I wouldn't worry about it. Since the end of atmospheric nuclear testing, background radiation's back to near enough normal. Low-background steel isn't needed anymore for most radiation-sensitive stuffs, new steel now has low enough radioactivity that it can be used now.
