Phil, there are several reasons why your channel is so popular. Among these reasons are these three most important ones. 1. you are a real person, no pretense. 2. you take the time to explain what you are doing and why, even though you have done it many times before. 3. you are honestly entertaining. These and a whole bunch more is what makes you a real expert, whether you thinks so or not. Again you are not just a wood turner, but an artist. ;-)

Gosh Phil, you are so brave. All those wild animals lurking there just awaiting to take a bite out of you, and over 90% of the time you don't even wear gloves. As I said 'so brave'. Joking aside I have turned a few pieces as danger filled as that lovely example you have there and have felt that bite when suddenly, mainly due to my own carelessness, the spinning jaws of some even maybe extinct animal, takes a chunk out of my finger. Must admit I love these challenging 'art' pieces as much, if not more than you do. Thanks so much once again. Stay safe Sir.

Phil, I agree with the previous post. I have learned so much from you. I try to watch every video you put out. I am a beginner and I have a 10 x 18 harbor freight lathe so I can't do the large pieces but I have a couple of Indian Hawthorn root balls that I saved when removing the shrubs. I am going to start on one of them tomorrow and see if I can put some of your lessons to use. It may end up the size of a shot glass before I am finished but I am still excited to see what I can do with it.

Phil: You indicated in your video that you inspire people to look at their wood piles since they may no longer think of it as fire wood anymore. However, you neglected to say if you have folks like me viewing the videos, we may look at fire wood differently, but when finished with the turning, we still have fire wood. That seems to be the norm with me.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, you made me laugh out loud, J! Yes, I do understand, been there! 😊
@martincotterill21324 ай бұрын
I think then in that case, if you turn a piece of wood and it doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would then there’s no foul and it will go in the burn pile in the end but at least you tried and that’s okay but at least you tried to do something with it rather than waste it. I suppose that’s another way of looking at it :-)

Love your videos was wondering what kind of sanding sealer u use and what’s the process u use
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Jason! I've mentioned it in several videos and have shown my process. I use Zinsser Seal Coat for the sealer and Zinsser shellac for the final finish. Both come ready to use out of the can, I don't do anything to them. I apply with a rag and a brush where necessary, allow to dry and buff between all coats with a gray 3M pad. After the final coat of shellac I buff with a white 3M pad. Buffing is with the lathe spinning around 7-800 rpm. I've found by cutting a 2" circle out of the pads I can apply it like velcro to my sanding pad and use my drill under power while the piece is spinning, just like sanding. Easier and better than holding the 3M pads to buff.
