I personally add Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 to the mix, but I agree with you on everything else. Clone Wars and Rebels lead into each other so naturally (for obvious real world reasons), that technically I don't need anymore animated shows. However, Bad Batch and TOTJ have been fine additions to the animated-verse(?), fleshing out concepts, themes, and characters way more than I could've hoped. Thus, if the animated shows also fall of the deep end, at least I can rest happy that what I enjoy can be enjoyed by itself.

Your point about animation having advantages over live action for some imagery is spot on. Example from the Prequels: every Grievous fan is extremely disappointed with his portrayal in Revenge of the Sith because the in 2D Clone Wars he was an unstoppable monster. However, a practical reason that Obi-wan cuts 2 of his hands off in short order is that it's much easier to have a four-armed warrior fight in animation (whether 2d or 3d) than it is in live action.

I think the main problem with the live-action shows is that they're trying to make movies, just split across 8 40-60 installations. They really missed the mark with season 3 of Mando, where they could have switched back to what drew people to the show initially: an *episodic* serial about a bounty hunter. Every episode or two is a new bounty; antagonists, new conflict & resolutions. The X-Wing series could also be a great vehicle for that style to story telling. Which would be more appropriate to streaming.

I never buy the budget arguement, some of the best parts of andor, was cassian living on a farm in some hills talking with the other rebels about their upcoming mission. There was no grand set pieces, just a quick DIY hut and pen and that was it. The issue is you need a strong plot and strong characters to do that. Most of the live action shows havent had that. Despite how simple that sounds, I believe it does something all supplementary material should: bring new perspective and ideas to the things we love. That's a big problem I have with Disney's live action shows, adding in all of these "new elements that detract from the story instead of enhancing it. For example, the biography gives great context to how Vader felt during all these years between the prequels and OT. Meanwhile the Disney Plus shows devalued the sequels by showing that the new republic was ignorant and incompetent from the get go. Point is that I think we'd give the shows at least a little more patience if they gave the impression they were adding to a cohesive story.

Hey Thor (and anyone else who wants to reply), personally I enjoy the movies the most followed closely behind by the animated series. I really enjoyed Clone Wars and Rebels, but I have had a hard time understanding what you and others love so much about the Bad Batch series. I watched the first and second season and out of the approximately 40 episodes I only really enjoyed three or four episodes, the rest I felt were pointless side stories that did not keep my attention like Clone Wars or Rebels did. In the prior series every story had some gravity to them, even the side stories, but Bad Batch hasn't had that same weight to it other than the episodes that, weirdly enough, feature Crosshair in them. I did not plan on watching the third season and I have not watched any of your episode reviews but I have heard you make positive comments on Bad Batch season 3 in your non-review videos such as this one. Have you heard similar sentiment about the first and second seasons of Bad Batch? And do you have anything to say that may convince I and others that the third season of Bad Batch is worth watching? The second question may be too vague but I am willing to add more to it if need be.

Felony deliberately butchered Mando S3 to shoehorn his evil pet Mary Sue into the real hero´s rightful place. Andor is the only series he wasn´t working on. It´s not a coincidence the best stuff was made when he wasn´t in control. He should be banned from ever working on anything Star Wars related.

The movies were my childhood. The EU filled my young adult years. The games freed me from depression. The animated show are at least entertaining. The bulk of the live action shows has me asking how could all of that money be used if they didn’t toss it into the money pit of mediocrity, by the 1980’s and 90’s standard of mediocrity? Even mediocre half hour low budgeted shows now-a-days are better in most ways. I mean, Ahsoka season 1 could’ve easily been done in a 3 episode story arc of the Clone Wars at a tiny fraction of the cost and our time.

The problem with the live-action shows is that their track record tells us the odds are that a new show will probably be disappointing. Similarly, the animated shows are likely to be pretty good; they are simply better stories than the ones we get in live-action with some exceptions like Andor. It will be interesting to see if opinions shift if the upcoming movies turn out to be poor.

I've said it about every. Single. Show. Except Andor. They all look like 80's sci Fi TV, like Holodeck Star Wars, If TNG did a retro episode of earth culture from our time. Nobody "gets it" though. Well, I guess, apparently lots of people get it, given the poll results. But Disney doesn't care. And there's another thing to consider. This LFL, under Disney. Sorry for the caps here but it needs emphasis: THIS IS THE BEST THEY CAN DO. it is. They wouldn't half-ass this on purpose. So one has to believe, they're giving it their all. It's not enough. Not even remotely close. People would rather READ than watch a live action Star Wars show? Ooooh that's gotta hurt. But it's accurate. At least, in context of Thor's viewers. I urge you all (except Thor) to join me in ignoring the Acolyte, and anything else they put forth on Plus - or elsewhere. We've seen the best they can do (Andor), and they'd rather peddle out space Vespas and Lizzo cameos. That's not Star Wars. Not to me. Absolutely LOVE the poll results!

It depends on if it's EU, #fanmade or #Disney. I think when it's fan made: I prefer Live Action Series, I love some fanfilms or Animated fan stuff, but when it's done the best, then I prefer the Live Action Fan Series, but when it #EU: Then non of the series were good and while the books were amazing, it really has to be the movies obviously. Then #Disney: its Games, I still rewatch LPs for Fallen Order/Survivor, if it wasn't for those games Then it would be books, because other then the high republic, Disney has been pretty good in their books.

It really depends. If it's in the era of Palpatine then I'd say games, books or animated (preferably don't recast Luke Skywalker or use CGI to bring him back (despite wanting it)). If it's new characters then I'm open to live action.

Star Wars is kind of like DC. The old films are well liked but some of the more recent live action films haven’t been all that great. But the animated shows have kind of become their own thing. So they don’t receive that much direct comparisons. Even the Arrowverse shows, at their worst, are their own things and also don’t receive much comparison.

I wouldn't say it was the quality of the visuals of the live actions, its more the writing. It seems to be written by committee in the most generic way. It's like LucasFilm doesn't care as much about the animated shows, books and games so their stories are more left up to the creators of the products and not so much the whole company. This seems to create a better experience.

Before Disney, Star Wars was Star Wars. I didn’t mind what they did or how so long as it’s still ‘Star Wars’. The Disney+ shows don’t show that Star Wars can’t work as a live action series, but show that a competent, unbiased and respectful director/writer that actually likes Star Wars is a necessity. Due to the lack of quality and the amount of times we’ve been disappointed by the Disney+ Star Wars shows, however, it’s hard to say if there are any other important factors worth considering that’d make it difficult to compare live-action production to animated shows (since Star Wars shows in the past were usually animated), such as how expensive a live action Star Wars *show* would actually be or if it’s simply difficult for some other studio reason, or something. It’s a wonder if George Lucas literally made Star Wars *for* the big screen, that it’s too unique for television.

"Oh, I'm not a big enough fan of Star Wars to enjoy a SW TTRPG!" Oh, so they can tell me the Goddess Of Magic in D&D? They know the Raven Queen's forgotten name? They can tell me who governed the Sword Coast? Who the Chained Oblivion is? Like half this stuff could be answered by just Critical Role fans, let alone D&D fans... but still. My point is, they don't have to be big fans to get into the story. Especially if you don't use any named characters. Like, are you going to use the Mortis Gods for any reason? Probably not. Revan? Unlikely. Yoda or Vader? Surely they know them, anyway? Or a concept like, "The Jedi Council is requesting you do this." They probably understand that's the equivalent to like, "The town mayor/city lord is requesting you embark upon this quest." And even if they don't, they can pick it up from context clues. Tell your friends not to be cowards since fear leads to hate and the Dark Side lmao. "Just play the SW TTRPG with me!"

Animation are Clone wars (2003), clone wars series, rebels and bad batch. Books and comics are tales of the jedi, Plagueis, darth bane trilogy, kotor, legacy, legacy of the jedi, young jedi adventures, the books of the films, thrawn books, x-wing books and much much more. Videogames are kotor 1 and 2, jedi knight series, jedi fallen order and survivor, x wing vs tie fighter, lego star wars, rogue squadron, shadows of the empire, republic commando, empire at war and others.

Movies are OG The shows are disappointing and insulting, not mediocre. Has nothing to do with being compared to the movies. It's all about quality, and 90% of the time, it's not there The animated shows have a fairly consistent track record in terms of good quality, regardless of how badly they butcher the continuity or not. Video Games, before Disney, were near flawless at telling Star Wars stories around the movie's continuity. The EU novels(before Disney) were the best sequels to the movies that we'll likely EVER get.

For me it started withe the with the movies and some lonely comic issues found at friends and later the games started making headway especially the SNES ones. Never really started reading the books as I had no money to buy them the local library never stocked them either, now that might change once I have all the books I plan to buy but that remains to be seen. Now as for the movies if we could get good, well written animated ones in the style of the Old Republic cinematic trailers that could be be interesting but I doubt that will happen. Heck animation could offer so much for Star Wars since it can really be made for all ages.

Mandalorian has some great moments but the movies just become a bigger dud as the years go on

movies are better live-action and shows are better animated because they can make more episodes at a lower cost to flesh out a good story, fights are better animated, character design in better animated for the most part and character movement is better animated too ( i.e if you want a jedi to be acrobatic etc then you can have that while in LA ur restricted by the actor/actress' ability. Only think LA beats animation on is visuals but with how good the animation is in recent years ( tales of the empire looks great for example ) visuals aren't even an issue anymore. One thing i would also say is that when a character is INTRODUCED in animation they should stay in animation as their LA versions are never really as good with maybe the exception of ppl like Bo-Katan.

Fallout is better than anything Disney has ever released even though the graphics aren't always perfect in that show. If the story/script, acting, and character development is good the cgi isn't all that important. You can live with that if the rest is solid. But if the core of a show/film isn't in place then bad graphics can kill the story (i.e. Rebel Moon).

See, movies 1 - 6 are already a complete story by themselves. While there's a few loose ends at the end of Rebels, by in large CW and Rebels also tells a complete story. Thus everything else becomes supplemental, so why support/add things you dislike? Sequels, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Resistance are all examples of things I just outright ignore. And I swear Bad Batch better stick the landing Wednesday because the animated shows are slowly decreasing imo.
@CadillacDeMille6 ай бұрын
Canon consistency is Disney Star Wars greatest issue. They had no overarching vision for the "sequels", changed Han, Luke, and Leia, and ignored that they're "innovations" didn't stick with established canon. They could've hired a couple of Star Wars fans that run lore youtube channels to check if what they wanted to do was consistent with what's already canon for story and characters. Yet they didn't and hired non Star Wars fans to do their projects. Fail.
@saberiandream3166 ай бұрын
The irony is they encourage people to go out of their way to invalidate the EU over its "canon" status (that THEY decided!), when THEY themselves don't give a single shit about canon and consistency. The live action shows need to be handled like how game of Thrones or obviously andor were handled, actually written for television, not just a movie cut up. Stranger things 4 is a perfect example of a show that actually could handle a week to week release as each ep has substance and isn’t just a random filler 20 minute clip length like disneys shows. Disney hasn’t handled tv well apart from literally andor and mando season 1. I mean I’ve gone back and watched mando 1 and it feels night and day to where it ended up

Because there is no Mando S3. It was deliberately butchered by Felony right after his promotion. That egoistical hack couldn´t accept a character which wasn´t created by him was more popular then his garbage Mary Sues, so he hammered one of them into his story and ruined it. The rewrites are so obvious it physically hurts, and old interview with Pascal done after Mando S2 confirms the story was changed.

My favourite medium was always books and comics but I dropped both this year due to the quality being beyond poor. it's a shame because there was a real magic to the EU that Disney was doing in it's comics and books early on (see thrawn trilogoes, original run of Darth Vader) but the quality began to drop rapidly (see the high republic books or the latest Star wars comics which are just not that great.
