TUTORIAL #7 - How to draw perfect whiskers every time - Channel Sheldene Fine Art

Draw whiskers and fine white hairs perfectly every time.
This tutorial demonstrates an easy and always effective way of getting fine white hairs on your drawing before you even put colour onto your paper.
The pencils I use are prismacolor pencils and Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and the stuff I put on the brush to blend with is my art spectrums odourless solvent.

I just found this whisker tutorial with all the answers to the questions I asked you on Patreon! This is a great technique! It will save me lots of stress about getting whiskers and fine hairs where they belong and making them look like they are not just drawn on top of the fur.

I love this tutorial Sheldene! It's so helpful. I've heard about scratching out the white whiskers before but never even thought to slow it down and be a bit more prescise. I never really followed my reference photo before, thinking it was too hard. Mine were haphazard and totally random and I couldn't figure out why! You're amazing

This was so amazingly helpful to know!! I’m new to art and did a rather ambitious project, a lynx in coloured pencil. It turned out really well but the whiskers were what gave me the most trouble. I wish I had known about this method before. So far I’m not a big fan of the B&P touch-up texture. It just dries too quickly and gunks up my detail brush before I get even half finished, so I’m going to try this method next time. I found you through Unmasked Art and have enjoyed the tips you’ve given and look forward to going through your other videos to see what else I can learn from you. Thanks for sharing your talent.

I just discovered your channel now and I am so sad you closed it and your patreon. I love watching and listening to you. You remind me of an angel, although I never met one in real life before LOL... I feel your spirituality and probably that is why I am so attracted to you (not romantically, don't get me wrong here !) I don't understand how your Seekers Portal works. Not sure if I have to become a member and if so, how to do it.... My first love are Karisma colored pencils which became Prismacolors as Karisma stopped producing. I have the Polychromos too but never could use them properly I guess. I watched your video of the blue rose, where you mixed the 2 brands. I loved it. I wanted to try it on the same rose, but I can not find the file lol. The last week or so, I became interested in the Pan Pastels. I got my first set, the skin tones set, and a small set of 5 tints set. I am planning on getting the complete set in the coming month. Anyway, bla bla bla... just to say I love your work. Thank you

Does it matter whether or not you use wax based pencils for the entire drawing? Or what kind of solvent?

Nope, it doesn't matter, just wax pencils are fine too, and any solvent should do :) it's really trial and error and figuring out what works best for you :)

What solvent do you use? I've been told to use Baby Oil but I've found I can't draw my whiskers in after using that? Thanks for your tutorial.

I use zest-it pencil blend solvent :) Be careful not to get the solvent into the crevice of the paper as it can make that white highlight disappear.

I have updated the description Debbie, sorry about that. I used prismacolor premier pencils and faber-castell polychromos pencils on this drawing. And to blend I would dip my brush in Art spectrums odourless solvent and dab the excess onto a paper towel :)

I would love to know how to draw realistic humans I have a hard time making eyes look identical, the fingers look nice, shape of the hand and the hair to look real. I also would love to know how to draw a comic book and how to do that pretty fast so I am not spending a whole day trying to make that one box look nice but still have good looking comic book. I think that if I knew how to draw humans it would just be really helpful. I know humans are hard but I saw some paintings behind you and they looked like you did them and I was wondering if you could help me. Thank you and the video was amazing I never thought of doing. I am usually very good with detail without needing to do that but that just makes it so much more easier.

So basically there's no way I can I actually draw this out with just a piece of paper and a number 2 pencil?😂 cause I've always struggled to do whiskers,I love drawing but I don't have that special stuff (, ._.), would this method still work if I shaded with a pencil?
