Budget MTG Decks
All magic fun, all cards under a dollar
We here at Budget MTG Decks love playing constructed Magic: the Gathering! Whether it’s EDH / Commander, standard or modern, duel or multiplayer, we can’t get enough of it.
Our vision of MTG is a game which encourages strategic thinking, social interaction and above all…fun! To make this accessible to everyone we decided to lower the two largest barriers which people encounter with this game:
1: Cost of building a Magic deck.
2: Complexity of building a Magic deck.
Our mission at Budget MTG Decks is to provide full deck tech videos describing ready to play EDH / Commander and duel decks. With in depth commentary on each card and overall play style. To make sure the decks are truly budget we have limited the price of all our cards to under a dollar (with exception of the commanders). Now everyone can join the Magic: the Gathering fun!

btw for anyone watching this, right now you CAN have multiple planeswalkers of the same type on the battlefield as long as they don't share the same name, I forget when they changed it.

Useful tool for teaching, but I think it might be better to use different images for +1/+1 counters and loyalty counters as it may confuse newer players. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

I'm fairly new and while I liked Planeswalkers, I couldn't quite figure out how to use them correctly. Also, was it here or another program that if you have 2 Planeswalkers with the same name, one of them has to be sacrificed? Now does that mean same card or same name, like Gideon of the Trials, and Gideon Ally of whatever couldn't be on the field at the same time?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 6 жыл бұрын
704.5j If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called the “planeswalker uniqueness rule.”
@redbird97
@redbird97 6 жыл бұрын
But if they have different names, i.e. Gideon and Chandra, you can have them both on the field at the same time?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 6 жыл бұрын
Actually they just changed these rules a few days ago. Now for example you can have multiple Gideon planeswalkers on the table as long as they have different names.

Thanks for the vid. Quick question though... Let's say you have a planeswalker with 8 loyalty and want to use an ability costing 7. It's on the stack (I assume) and then your opponent bolts him, reducing his loyalty to 5. Is it possible? Does that prevent him from using his ability? Do you lose his action for the turn?
@brianhoffman42
@brianhoffman42 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I tried to find the videos "how to use a planeswalker.". You explained it so clearly and slowly plus showed me. But I do have 2 question, I understand you can't play the same planeswalker but can you have the same planeswalker in your library for a better chance of drawing it? Also can I play two different planeswalker or one at a time?
@BudgetMTGDecks
@BudgetMTGDecks 6 жыл бұрын
You may have 4 copies of the same planeswalker in your library as with any card in constructed. You can also have as many different types of planeswalkers as you like on the battlefield or in your deck for that matter.

I have one more question for you! For the Planeswalker's third ability, you need 8 loyalty counters. How do I get it up that high? By using the first ability over and over again until it gets up to 8 or more?

So loyalty points persist through turns correct? Meaning if I end a turn with 5 even though my PW has 4 initially I start the next turn with 5? Like loyalty points stay where they are at unlike, for example a creature that blocked and lost a point but then heals at end of turn. Sorry if that’s confusing

But I don't really mind, it was really amazing and I love the game :D But I blame you for my missplay with killing the infinite bounce 2/2 over the infinite imunity 1/1 My friend had some cool combo with a card that morphed into any card on the battlefield. Totaly your fault >;D (Seriously though thanks for the guides

I had a quick question. I know that when a card deals damage to target player it can be redirected to a planeswalker, but do you have to declare you are redirecting the damage right away or just before damage is dealt. Also, if you can direct it at the very end can your opponent react? Does it go on the stack?

I want to start off by saying that all these videos were incredibly helpful for my son and I when we started playing MTG last month. I still have these videos saved so that I can go back when I forget something. One confusion I have is that someone recently told me the "one type" plainswalker rule is no longer in effect? They pointed me to rule 306.4. While it says they don't suffer that same rule, it does talk about the legendary rule which feels like it's basically the same thing. Could you possibly clear this up for me? Again many thanks for all of these helpful videos.

Hi Juan! Happy to hear that you found these useful! Here is a short explanation which should clear up the change: With the introduction of the planeswalker card type during the Lorwyn block the following rule was introduced:704.5j If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called the “planeswalker uniqueness rule.”Planeswalker type essentially means “character”. The character of Jace is a planeswalker type, as is Gideon, Nissa, Liliana, etc. Any Jace could coexist with any planeswalker who isn’t Jace, but if you had a Jace Beleren on the battlefield and you cast Jace, the Mind Sculptor you couldn’t keep both should the second spell resolve. You needed to pick and destroy one of the two Jaces.That rule has been deprecated. By making all planeswalkers legendary permanents the legendary rule applies to them instead of the now defunct “planeswalker uniqueness rule”. From the Comprehensive Rules (Commander 2017 (August 25, 2017))704.5k If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called the “legend rule.”With this rule change Jace Beleren and Jace, the Mind Sculptor can both coexist simultaneously on the battlefield under your control since they have different names.

Thanks for the explanation!!! So the limit looks to have moved from same type to same name. My son will be excited since we started out with Jace/Huatli decks against each other and have found other planeswalker cards as well. Keep up the great work and thanks again!

Duel Decks from Wizards of the Coast are a great beginning. It comes with 2 complete decks which are balanced to play against each other. That way you and a friend can learn together ;).

I went to my local game shop, as I am also new to Magic, and I was able to get a free Starter Deck. Many shops are given simple 60 card decks by Wizard's of the Coast to get new players into the game so we spend (possibly) hundreds of dollars in the near future on cards.

Jeremiah Bachmann that's great suggestion, but since I'm from an asian country, we don't really have stores that gives Starter decks for free

You got that right man wish I had kept my cards though. By today's standard i'd have probably around $12-$15k worth of cards. I am working on a T2 Big Red post rotation deck and would like some input on it though. www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/standard-type-2/deck-creation-standard/675521-big-red-machine-post-rotation-big-red-variant

Can a player choose to attack their opponent or choose to attack their opponent's planeswalker? If the opponent can't block the attack then the damage goes to the planeswalker and not to its owner? Or if a player casts a spell on an opponent then that player can just say that their planeswalker takes the damage? So you can basically make a planeswalker that soaks up all damage?
