Tutorial Minecraft Piston Gate (BETA 1.8.1)

A demonstration and tutorial of a fully closing castle gate.
Things to note: This design is an update of my previous design ( • Minecraft Piston Drawb... ) and works well with my Piston Drawbridge design, as well ( • Video ).
It utilizes a mono-stable circuit to allow for a two tiered piston setup. The design allows you to use a continuous floor (rather than a strip of sand or gravel), for those of you who have an attention for aesthetics when you build (like me). All wiring takes up minimal space and can be completely hidden. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

I really like the design you made here, I tried my own hand at making a gate that opens and closes from the side, and has an optional switch like yours to lock it with pistons on the floor and ceiling, and i must say that single component in my design was much more needless work, awesome design!

Wow I understand this completely.. The pistons on the bottom get pushed down twice but in such a delay that the top ones pull them up then back down the up again! Genius

This is kinda pretty good, it's not flawless but it works which is the main thing, you could also use multiple levers to use as a code so only you know how to open it for example you use 6 levers, any 3 up and any 3 down etc which will activate the gate.

@WeEndedInDisaster I agree that the second set of sticky pistons looks a bit off. However, I felt this was the best compromise because the pistons, aside from the green sticky part, somewhat resemble the fences. If fences would stay together, I would of course use two rows of fences instead.

@JigRichards You're right! The purpose of the two sets of repeaters was so that the top set would fire first and lose charge second, and the bottom set would fire second and lose charge first. But that condition can be satisfied with just one repeater on the bottom. Thanks for the tip =D

I personally use RS NOR latches to make doors open and close from both sides, with two close/open buttons connected to each reset input. The best place I found to put the logic rooms is under or above the door, with output and inputs running in and out of the room (above is usually when building underground), hope this helps.

Its Available on 1.4.7.I tried it it worked perfectly.I nkow that it cant be opened at the other side but i just builded a replica of it on the other side and just put some pressure plates or another lever. Its so cool the pistons and the fence this is my first gate and it was awesome. Thanks for this!

They won't stick if they are both extended, but they can pull or push unextended oistons. That's why you have to time them to work in turns, as in this video.

I love this gate... used it for my castle and built my bedroom over the covered redstone wiring... only problem is that a monster seems to have spawned in the wiring and I had to move my room to the other side of the castle now lol (too scared to dig in and kill it as I'm likely to bugger up my wires)

@daltonk7 This is meant to keep hostile mobs from wandering into your castle/village. I've also provided a link for a drawbridge that goes with it (the link is in the description and at the beginning of the video), so if he closed the gate on you, you might be at the bottom of a pit of lava...

My top isn't closing correctly...the first layer of pistons works, but the second works :P i had to make tweak to it so the first layer operated correctly. Any tips?

For 3.1, instead at 5:24 you don't add the repeater to the one on the left, instead make it redstone dust. Then it shall work.

HELP ! trying to get a rail switch that allows a 3 way Tee. the base of the tee is a loop, so the cart goes and returns. the cross is the main line. want to have an automatic switch that moved the turn so that when you come from one direction, take the Tee, then come back, it will automatically send you the other way. any ideas? tried stick pistons and regular pistons.... no joy.

Could there be included a XNOR circle so you can open and close that gate from the outside aswell? I guess the answer is no because these XNOR circles take up enough space themselves...

watching this I start to get a grasp on how redstone and those torches work together but the you confuse me with why the heck you need to add extra loops into the work. would single powered redstone line into the top gate work? Why have loops?

@silvusvalentine dude I have followed your gate design but it wont fire the middle set of pistons twice, any tips on where I have gone wrong? It doesn't seem to light the far left torch when the switch is thrown. I have made this before but that was before the update.

It's probably the torch. You could of placed it in such a fashion that it powers said piston constantly

Try setting the delay to 3 ticks on the first or second row, it should work...

@crlGaming I just tested mine and it's still working in version 1.0.1. The section that handles the second piston firing is from 3:37 ~ 4:40. That part is really important for getting the fences back up.

Hey mine is bugging up. I'm in winter biome (dunno if that matters) and I'm getting this weird thing were the sticky pistons on the top lose the ones on the bottom. As in they get left there in the air and the gate only half disengages. It doesn't stop me from getting out I guess but it makes the whole top part redundant. Gate activates fine, its just the deactivation. Help!

there seems to be some problem with the pistons on the xbox version, when i place the second row of sticky pistons under the first as shown in the video they are fine. i hit the lever once and they go down like they are supposed to but when they go back up, there is a gap between the pistons.
