A Tutorial and walk through of Android Auto and Apple Carplay on the NEW infotainment 3 Software offered on many 2019-2020 Chevrolet vehicles. In this video I show how to connect your phone to your vehicle, use voice commands, and some functionality to the Android system. This was video was made on a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer.

I just watched you a great video on the 2020 Chevrolet infotainment system. I recently purchased a pre-owned 2020 Chevy equinox. I have noticed that GPS volumes versus general Google volumes and radio volumes vary. Is there a way to get them all at the same listening level? This is Tom from Essex junction, Vermont.

Why is their no notification noise when a text comes in? You only know if you are in android auto app on screen and happen to look at screen otherwise you don't know you got one. Even if in android auto, no sound

You can activate your Bluetooth and Android Auto at the same time. However, your vehicle will only be able to display audio from one at a time but you have the ability to switch between the devices on your audio menu if you are listening to music. The primary phone will be the only one that can receive and make calls. Secondary devices will only be able to receive calls not make them from the vehicle

Hello Jeremy. The quick links at the bottom can not be swapped out at this point, but you can drag-n-drop different apps between the different screens.

Great question Joe. The Colorado's do not offer wireless Carplay/Android Auto. Chevrolet has started offering this capability in some of its 2021 models, but that is only on select vehicles such as the Trailblazer and Tahoe.

Hello Carlos. I am not exactly sure how to answer your question. If you are wanting to know how to upgrade your radio to be able to use the Carplay feature, then you are out of luck. However, there are after market radios you can install that could give you this feature.

Miguel that is a good question. Unfortunately, there is not an in-vehicle wireless charger for the Colorado big enough to support the larger phones. The all new 2021 Tahoe, Yukon, and Suburban have expanded their wireless chargers to account for larger phones. You could always purchase a wireless phone charger and connect it via USB to your vehicle.

I am unsure how one would use iTunes on an Android phone but I would assume you could. I know that iHeartRadio is a compatible app.

I can't get my 2020 Blazer RS to notify me of new text messages when connected via usb to android auto...any idea what I need to do? The android auto settings are set up to allow preview of text messages etc.

I ran into this situation with another person. After some troubleshooting, we found out that their phone had an additional safety feature that was blocking access to text messages. If a message does not pop up automatically when you connect your phone, try going into your phone's settings and look for either "security" or "permissions" to give your vehicle permission to access your messages and see if that helps.

Why can I not use Bluetooth audio in a 2020 Chevy Malibu premier? Must I use android auto only? Prefer not to plug in my phone everytime. Yes audio and calling is selected via my phone's Bluetooth settings.

That is an interesting situation Dear Agony. The first thing that comes to mind is that you need to select "Bluetooth" in your Audio menu. You can find this by pressing the more button on the bottom left hand side of your audio screen and selecting Bluetooth. @@gmbullfrog1004 yes did this, I failed to mention. (Thanks for the response!). I selected that from "more". Selected the Bluetooth symbol from sources and it says no device connected, yet if I play a song off of my note 10 plus, it shows it is indeed connected to the car through Bluetooth, and is trying to play through the vehicle. Thinking it is definitely something to do with the vehicle? Even tried a factory restore on the head unit. Find this weird as the option is there, but it is not working. I am going to try a different device with it tomorrow, but expect the same result. I am using this as a temporary rental, but was considering buying one of these Malibu's! If I cannot Bluetooth stream audio, it's one of those things that would set me off a little, sad I suppose however I'd be utilizing this daily.

Dear Agony I am not 100% what the issue is there. I can tell you with confidence that a 2018 and newer Chevrolet Malibu can Bluetooth stream audio. If there is any question about it, you could always test this feature during your test drive of your potential new vehicle.

If we are talking about the same number (in this video it was a 2) then that number shows which driver settings are currently in effect. Many GM vehicles have the ability to program different settings for 2 separate drivers and "save" them to your Key Fob. That way the vehicle will adjust the settings based on whichever key fob was used to start the vehicle.

Great question. I intend to release a video on this since it is a very in-depth subject. Your salesperson/delivery specialist should have went over this feature with you at the point of purchase. I will try to give you a very quick overview. The user function is linked to your GM account, so sign in using the same log on as your GM account. If you don't have one, create a new one. The purpose of the user function is to "program" the vehicle to remember your personal settings such as memory seat position, radio favorites, or any other personal setting you may have changed on your traverse. Your vehicle will recognize you when you unlock it with your Fob and load your settings automatically. Additionally, if you get into a different vehicle with the user function then you can load your settings onto that vehicle by logging in to your profile. There is a lot more to it and I will hopefully be releasing a video soon to cover it.

I have a 2019 blazer and sometimes I can not use the switches on the steering wheel to change songs on apple CarPlay. It has a message that says this option is not available and sometimes it works? Any ideas on how I can get this to work properly all the time. I keep plugging in and unplugging my lightning cable to see if the switches work. Thanks Jim R

Hello Dos Mas Tequila. I did some research to find out an answer to your dilemma. Unfortunately, it could be several different things. Here are a few things you can try to remedy the problem. 1) Try hard resetting your phone and restarting your vehicle. 2) The issue could be with your cable. Try using an Apple branded cable over a third party cable. Also using shorter cables could help with the connection. 3) If your phone had a recent update, that could be the cause of the problem. The only way to fix that would be to revert your phone back to a point before the update. 4) If all else fails, contact your dealer since there may be an issue with your Infotainment systems itself. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer. Let me know if you find out what the problem was.

GM Bullfrog I watched a few videos on hooking up an I phone to the infotainment center and what I got to work so far is... go into settings.. general... car play.. and turn off allow car play while locked. I got a good result with this change but time will tell..! Thanks for your speedy reply!

Have a 2020 Chevy equinox how do I keep my phone from overcharging since the infotainment requires I use the cable and plug into USB port.

You are only required to keep your phone plugged in when using Android Auto/Apple Carplay. This should be changing with future vehicles to where you can do this wirelessly. As far as overcharging is concerned, most phones are built with a digital circuit breaker to cut off power when you don't need it. This is the same as if you were to leave your phone plugged into its charger overnight. Overcharge prevention is a phone specific thing.

You are correct M. You can play music just by being connected via Bluetooth and turning your radio to the Bluetooth function. However to get full access to Apple Caplay/Android Auto, you must have your phone plugged in via cable.

Robert it will not drain your car battery. Your alternator will constantly charge your battery while the vehicle is in motion. It does use that power but it is so minor that it wont make a difference to your battery.

Hello Guillermo. If you are wanting to know how to connect your phone via Bluetooth then maybe this video will help kzbin.info/www/bejne/kILOnmCQaLyAfJY. However, if you are wanting to know how to use Apple Carplay/Android Auto via Bluetooth, you are out of luck. Wireless Carplay/Android Auto did not become available until 2021 and that was only on certain models. All vehicles 2020 and older require a hard connection to the vehicle to enable this feature.

Hello Junior. Technically speaking yes you can. It would be very expensive and not practical. If you are wanting the Apple Carplay/Android Auto option and you don't currently have it, the best way to go would be to purchase an aftermarket radio that has these capabilities.

Hello Chris. The 2018 Cruze should already be equipped with Apple Carplay/ Android Auto. It just wont be laid out in this format since the 18 Cruze uses MyLink instead of the Infotainment 3.

You won't be able to get the screen to look exactly like the screen in this video, but Apple Carplay/ Android Auto will activate as soon as you hook your phone up to the vehicle with a cable.

Just updated my Pixel 3a to Android 11 and connected to my 2018 Equinox and Android Auto. Everything working ok except the phone. When I make a call my party can’t hear me but I hear them fine. If someone calls me we both hear each other fine. If I disconnect from Android Auto my phone is perfect no matter if I’m making or receiving calls. Do you have any idea what is causing this?

Oh goodness Phil. I don't have a clue on that one. It sounds like something is not connecting quite right whenever you are making calls. It could be a setting on your phone but that doesn't sound like the case. Sorry, I can't help with that one.

Do you have the Android Auto/Apple Carplay app downloaded to your phone? Are you turning the application on with your vehicle and your phone?

I am an Android user so I cannot troubleshoot the apple phones. From past experiences with customers, I don't think Apple has an app in the Apple store any longer. You should just be able to hard plug in your phone and turn on the Apple Carplay app from your vehicle. You may have some permission notifications pop up on your phone that you would need to allow. Also... "Motorists who want Apple’s operating system in their dashboard need a compatible iPhone. Every iPhone since the 5 is CarPlay-friendly, though the device needs to run iOS 7.1 or newer for the app to work. You won’t be able to run CarPlay if you’re still using an iPhone with a 30-pin connector, or if you have an iPad."

I would not consider myself a phone expert but I do have training in modern cell phone technology from previous jobs. It should not damage your phone battery. Most phones are built to manage power distribution and prevent overcharging. However, leaving your phone charged for extended periods of time does reduce the battery life span by a little whether it is in a vehicle or at home. Mostly due to the battery getting hot and less to do with the actual charging of the battery. This is worse if you have a phone case that doesn't properly allow heat to release. The only way to prevent this is to stop using your phone if you feel it getting hot. To answer your question, Apple Carplay does not damage your phone anymore than general use does to my knowledge.

Hello Kodak Mo. To my knowledge, you can not play video on the front screen. You used to be able to do so using a USB formatted to MP4s but GM removed this function since it was considered a "safety hazard." There may be some kind of aftermarket upgrade that gives you this functionality but I am not sure. Sorry I could not be more help.

That screen looks it has really bad reflection problem, can you even see it the sun.. looks like it has not antiglare functions ? The 2020 blazer does not support wireless car play Does this mean car play only works when the device is plugged in... Does it offer a cigarette lighter , need for radar detector ? And if so where is that

I see your concerns Barney about the 2020 Blazer. The screen is not entirely anti-glare. Just like a tablet, you can adjust the brightness to counter different driving conditions. There is also a screen protector you can purchase to help battle glare if that is a problem for your everyday driving needs. It works the same way as if you where buying an screen protector for your smart phone. As far as wireless carplay is concerned, there is no 2020 models that support a wireless carplay system. A hard plug in is required to activate this feature. The 2021 Trailblazer is the first Chevrolet vehicle to offer a wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay experience. I believe this will be much more common in the future. There is a 12 volt charger (cigarette lighter) in many of the GM Vehicles including the Blazer. The Blazer's 12 volt charger is located in the center console.

Hello Ray. This depends on your vehicle and what "software" you are trying to update. There should be a section in your settings to check for updates on your vehicle and have the vehicle apply these updates automatically. If your vehicle is in an "unconnected market" or is not equipped with a remote package, then you have to go to your dealer for the updates.

Hello APR928. To my knowledge, as long as you have it downloaded on your phone it should show up on the Android Auto screen. It has never been anything I have ever had to download. If all else fails, you can download Pandora directly to your vehicle by using the Apps feature on your infotainment system.

Hello Tgblacker. It sounds like you may just need to turn your navigation sound up. You can do this in your settings under navigation or under your sound settings.

No there is not. On certain phones it will pop up a message telling you to download the app but it no longer exists in the apple store. I am not an Apple user but I do not believe you need the app to get for functionality with Apple CarPlay.

Not yet. The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is being released this year and it will be the first Chevrolet Buick or GMC product to offer wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay.

After farther research, there is a way to use wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay but it requires in-vehicle WIFI and a special adapter. I am not familiar with this process, but Google says it is possible.

Hello inteligenciam. It depends on what you are referring to. If you are referring to Bluetooth connection, you can have multiple phones connected at once with one phone being the "primary" phone which will be able to receive and make calls. You can only have one phone connected to apple Carplay/Android Auto at a time.

Thanks for the comment crazydomg. I am not 100% sure what you mean by "playing with your phone", but if you notice a sound decrease when plugging up your phone to Apple Carplay/Android Auto or via Bluetooth then you may be able to fix it by simply turning the volume up on your phone. If you are referring to other functions, the vehicle will automatically lower the sound for navigation or when you receive phone calls to eliminate background noise.

Hello Lwood. The vehicle's Bluetooth is designed to only play one audio source at a time, so if you are talking on the phone through your vehicle speakers, you cannot play the radio and vice versa.

I have the 2021 Trailblazer LT and Android Auto is not wireless. You need to plug the USB in. Dumbest thing ever.

I am sorry to hear that Savannah. I have not seen a 2021 Trailblazer in person yet. My GM training says that the Trailblazer was going to have wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity, but didn't specify what was required to get it. After farther research, I have found that the wireless connectivity is only available on the Activ and RS models of the Trailblazer. It must also have the technology package that adds several other features as well as the wireless apple carplay/android auto. You still have regular apple carplay/android auto across on the LT models.

Lol Perrin. There are times I wish I lived in Canada. There is no political bias in the video. It is just a joke implying that Android is better than Apple in my opinion. I poorly altered a quote from Trump purely because he is a popular search topic on google and nothing more. That section is to serve as a comedic break, not a political view. It is a little sad that we live in a time where a person can't make a joke about politics without people jumping to conclusions.

Hello Thomas. The version of Apple device and type of device that you are using determines weather you have to download an additional app or not. Also, the title of the video is 2020 Chevrolet infotainment 3. With this system, the phone must be plugged into the vehicle in order to get Apple Carplay functionality. The wireless Carplay feature was not introduced until 2021. I appreciate the view and the comment. However your comment is not entirely correct.

Kyle several dealers will offer some type of free trial subscription with the purchase of a new vehicle as long as your vehicle has an XM compatible radio. Your truck is an LTZ so I would assume that you have the upgraded infotainment system that comes with XM compatibility. With our new vehicles, they are already activated so customers can test it during their test drives. I would contact your dealer and see if this is something they can check for you as it might have been missed step by your salesperson.

Hello Chad. The Colorado does not offer this ability for XM. I am not sure why but some GM vehicles offer that ability and others don't.
