I love these! I have tried and tried but with the liquid gold leaf I cannot get it to sink at all, it just creates a film on the top. Any suggestions? Also your colours stay very clear and distinct while I find mine merge much more. Any advice would be so helpful. I wondered if it might have to do with the temperature? I have also experimented letting my resin sit for a while first as my colours bleed out much more than yours on application. Thank you for any tips:)

Are you using Tim Holtz alcohol inks? I find that the brand of inks makes a difference. Also, which gold leaf ink are you using? Always try and start with the gold first as the texture is different from the alcohol inks - its heavier so it needs the alcohol inks or isopropyl to sit on top of it to bring it down through the resin. Try using isopropyl on top of it to separate it a bit and see if that works.

How long does a bottle of white ink last when you are making coasters? I just ordered some inks to try this!
@EmmaRave4 жыл бұрын
I would say around 4-6 coasters - depending on how much you use in each coaster

The easiest way to remove them from a mold is to use the warm water and dish soap method. Start releasing your coaster from the mold and slowly massage the soap and water around the edges and underneath and the coaster will just pop out. I usually put the soap and water in the sink and do it that way. Works every time for me......I wasted and ruined many a mold before this method. This method works for all silicone molds.

Or simply use mold release, thats seriously the easiest way, and the stuff is cheap.

beautiful coasters. if you really don't like the one with the white spots you can sand them off with wet/dry sandpaper use it wet. then you will need to add a thin coat of resin to the sanded side and it will make it clear again.

thank you so much - I will remember that :)

I watched another KZbinr and she had the same exact problem with those same silicone molds. She also used a torch similar to yours and she figured out that the mold would melt a bit and over heat. She found that when she let the resin sit on its own for a bit first to work out the bubbles and then super quick flashed the top with a flame, the problem went away.

Awesome video. I'm just started making coasters with clear resin and dropping alchohol inks in, and then use the white alcohol ink on top of the colors already there. About half of my coasters have to much white on the face to see into the coaster. Almost looks like white dots. Any help would be appreciated.

I have had a problem with a hot cup sticking to the coasters, any remedy for this?
@EmmaRave5 жыл бұрын
It may be that the resin didn't cure correctly or the ratio wasn't right. Try coating It within another thin coat of resin to see if it will harden it up for you.

That's pretty cool to have two different creative designs on both sides of the coasters. I had no clue how opposite side would turn out when you were dropping colours in. Wild plum is always an excellent choice to add in.

Yes I had no clue either how it would look on the other side so I'm glad it looked good!

The blending solution is clear and separates the inks

Nice video and great explanations. Your mold stuck because you used a torch to pop the bubbles. Try using a heat gun or hair dryer on low air and high heat. Also, warming up your resin and hardener before mixing thins the mixture so the bubbles can escape easier. I use a hot water bath and put each bottle in for a couple of minutes pulling them out and swirling the liquids every minute or so.

Lovely!! They turned out gorgeous! Just a question.. Could you please suggest any brand of paints that give transparent resin colors?
@EmmaRave5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean paints that you mix in to resin? or alcohol inks like this video?

@@EmmaRave Hi Emma.. I guess alcohol inks are not transparent, do you know of any transparent paints /colors that can be mixed into resin ? I am aware of only opaque colors..

@@bhagyn3236 No not particularly although I find that silver/gold are a bit more transparent when mixed into resin.

It might be that resin that caused the sticking to the mold. But the spray release is the first thing to try. I have that mold and never have any issues. I used a different resin. But in the end, I love your coasters. Good job!

Thanks for the advice - yes maybe it was the resin because I've seen others just pop out really easily. Glad you liked them :)

I’m a beginner, what resin do you use?
@wupme6 жыл бұрын
It honestly is that those molds use a bad silicone. I have this only happen with commercial molds that are made for food. Never with any selfmade molds.

Can you use either ARTRESIN (2 part epoxy resin,) or casting resin? OR, is there a difference? Your coasters turned out beautifully. Love them!

Hi Barbara, there are lots of different types of resin you can use but all would need a hardener for this effect to work. Check out this blog for further details :-www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/what-are-the-different-types-of-resin Thanks for watching!
