Use a #4 plastic drywall anchor as a snapcap. Fits chamber nicely and even extracts as a spent case would.

Good idea. Savage recommends that you do not fire this bolt-action rifle without a round in it as it will deform the face of the firing pin. Your use of a drywall anchor is a good idea.

Does your bolt handle have any play in it?

I love the Savage 93R17 with the thumbhole, but when I tried it the weight was too much. I instead got the Minimalist, which is much lighter. Haven't had it long (and why I just now found your video) and now trying to figure out the right scope and rings for it. Thanks for the video.

I only use Frog Lube to coat the external parts now after encountering something similar on my CZ pistols. Good lube, but not up to par for firearms IMHO. Thanks for the vid - I wanted to clean and polish my Savage Mark II bolt, and this gave me the confidence to take it apart.

Glad it helped :-)

Iused Frog lube one time in my 249 in Kuwait. Will never touch that stuff again. Gummed up, caught every piece of sand in the desert and stuck it to my weapon. Learned my lesson about frog lube. sticking to Militec-1 now. Never touching anything else.

My B17 had the same problem of light strikes and no strikes while in the field. Luckily I had a can of gun cleaner spray with me. The bolt was sticky from old lube. Sprayed it down twice and back to shooting rats.

If you don't have the sonic equipment, would a prolonged soaking be effective,in removing the gunk on that bolt assembly?
@2AGunsmithingandFirearms5 жыл бұрын
Kaplinka I’m not sure, I have not tried it; but I figure it would work just the same. Think about leaving a dirty pot in the sink to soak for a while, easier to clean.

So you are are not a fan of Frog Lube? Thanks

How about failure to fire?
@dantheman95345 жыл бұрын
You probably have grit or lubrication that's got gummy around the firing pin. Had the same thing happen to mine. Hope that helps you!

Why would you not go ahead and show complete disassembly of the bolt? Who cares about your choice of lubes, pretty much a waste of time!
