Big fan of Arturia's FX plugins and I'm pleasantly surprised by this addition! J37 is a very crucial plugin on my master bus and the only Waves plugin I use so I'm very excited to try this one. The GUI looks excellent and I like that you've kept the simplicity. Really looking forward to test it and hear how it sounds!

Can you use the varispeed a tiny bit, then run two copies of the plugin in parallel and do tape flanging? Otherwise, I don't see the point of that feature.
@robshrock-shirakbari1862Ай бұрын
How do you control the level of the delay signal? Is there a way to mute the dry signal to use it as a delay on an effects return? Also not seeing an input trim. These are basic controls needed for a modern plugin. Massive oversights?
@ArturiaOfficialАй бұрын
Hi there, The delay signal in this effect is processed within the same signal chain as the tape effect, which is why there isn’t a traditional dry/wet mix control. Instead, the feedback parameter adjusts the level of the delayed signal, and each successive delay becomes more driven. While this design choice may differ from modern plugins with separate signal chains, it’s intended to provide a unique, tape-inspired sound. For setups requiring a fully wet signal, we recommend using the plugin on an effects return channel. As for input trim, it isn’t included, but we appreciate the feedback - it’s always valuable to hear how users interact with our tools! Hope this helps!
@robshrock-shirakbari1862Ай бұрын
@@ArturiaOfficialwell, it's a unique delay design in the fact that you don't have much control over it in the 21st century... in a world where adding a mix knob to a plug-in is pretty dang straightforward. Needless to say, I disagree with this design, as it makes it almost useless as an actual tape delay beyond being just a very simple effect with the vibe of an afterthought. "But The Beatles....." 😊 Cheers and Happy Holidays 🎉
@brian.f09Ай бұрын
I couldn’t agree more. The way the delay is implemented now is next to useless. It doesn’t need much, but at least a wet/dry and level control for the delayed signal without having to increase the feedback/amount of repeats. Arturia, revisit the delay feature and I’m in.
@MathHammerАй бұрын
Agree on both of these. The inputs are overdriven from the start of this video. Maybe it is a matter of recalibrating the VU meters and/or send levels, but the input sounds very hot even to my old ears.

I kind of never use those on tape simulation plugins due to the phasing noise it introduces, that is probably the reason why there is no dry/wet knob. It is better dialing in less of the tape effect instead, it is important that the tape plugin has wide subtle range.

Why the design inconsistencies?: the tape had to be animated but pressing stop wouldn't stop the tape neither slowing down with a different speed. With your heavy files due to hyperrealism you could at least get the animation right...

They used it because it was all they had if they could’ve been using digital and daws they would’ve! if you look up any old engineers that worked with this equipment, they’ll tell you they despised using this equipment and the sound it gave!

that was then. You could say the same about a Porsche 911. Vintage.....underpowered by today's supercar standards, but it has a vintage charm, nostalgia, retro feel. The J-37 puts amazing warmth into things that require that vibe. It's not gonna be something everyone wants
@SNOOPAXLROSEАй бұрын
how long are you going to dwell in the past? Are you gonna keep making plug-ins from the 60s for the next hundred years? Or move on to more innovation instead of rehashing equipment people didn’t want? Why do you keep building the 1960s Porsche emulation? Kinda silly

Stooooder What is missing on all these tape emulations is what occurs naturally on a multitrack tape machine. Adjacent tracks interact with one another. Crosstalk and bleed schmooshes it all together. UA Luna seems to be the only DAW that approaches that concept. Not a fan of LUNA. Presonus Studio One has an option to replicate the noise and channel - to - channel crosstalk of an analog console. But not tape....yet. ARTURIA recently bricked a whole bunch of my synth plug-ins and tried to blame Apple. THEY WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER PENNY FROM ME. Other Companies have updated their plug-ins for no extra charge.
@ronmoes42Ай бұрын
HAHAHA Sorry....you say warmth what do you mean by warmth like cozy??? The whole point of tape in studios is the resolution it has to even be considered good enough to put music on, many other tape machines even the ones you can buy today do not have enough resolution to put a full mix on, it has to do with the size of the tape and the speed it can record. you won't find a consumer 15 ips tape deck or recorder on the market. :) The J 37 does have nice saturation though! I like it very much and I put it on all tracks to work like they did in the old times
