Watching this video on my freshly-updated Mint 22.1 with Cinnamon 6.4. The update was smooth and painless. Nothing for me to complain about!👍

Actually, Your retina glial cells are what cause your eyes to adjust to light and also impacts circadian rhythm responses particularly well to the cyan part of the spectrum, so shifting rhe color temperature towards red helps reduce the stain.

The fact that you think theres room for improvement for this week in linux show blows my mind. You have the best, most informative, unbiased linux channel on youtube in my humble opinion. I'd go so far to say that there is no room for improvement and i dont say that about very many things. You've done an excellent job with this channel.

After upgrading to Mint 22.1 from within mintupdate (make sure to install all updates before upgrade), I noticed that I lost Synaptic Package Manager and had to re-install it. Also 6 packs (related to grub I think) were not updated, but I marked them for update with Synaptic and they were updated successfully. From terminal I used: "sudo apt list --upgradable" , and then used synaptic to upgrade them (I used synaptic to avoid making any mistake).

For someone who suffers from eyes problem changing light spectrum doesn't solve any problem you just need to switch to eink screen for reading. In terms of physics frequency is directly proportional to the energy, blue light has more energy.

I'm not saying not to patch, but all the rsync issues are problems if you are running rsync server - which you aren't. If you haven't specifically set up an rsync server, then you aren't vulnerable, and if you are: what are you doing?!? 😮 You need to replace that with rsync over ssh.

New Cinnamon theme is leaning towards LibAwaita, which makes you wonder whats the point.

9:50 : Downgrade foreign packages. There are some programs that like to install with a set of dependencies for newer or older kernels, or versions of the toolkit. One good example is VirtualBox. It makes a version, which is completely focused on Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.10, which is highly relevant in Mint because mint uses those bases, or often one step behind, so you have to download the VBox package for the previous version of Ubuntu, which is the sort of thing that can catch you out. I would think 'Downgrade' is aimed at helping to solve problems like that.

Gosh Linux Mint is definitely my first (and greatest) love wrt Linux. I think it was around 2017 when I first began my serious changeover from the Windoze/Mac world. Yes, I admit to cheating on her when I began experimenting and using both Arch and Fedora, but in the end I always seem to come back to her when I get in trouble. 😉 Nicely done video, son.

I switched over from windows in like april or may of 2020 to Linux Mint. I havent run it in a few years since 20.3 instead opting for fedora and eventually endeavourOS but Linux mint is the one that got me (and many others im sure) into Linux. It has a special place in my heart. ☺
@louiemccrady196011 күн бұрын
I started using Linux full time in 2003. Used SUSE, Red Hat, and Fedora in the early years until I tried Ubuntu. Stuck with Ubuntu for a long time, until they switched to the Unity desktop. That forced me to switch over to Mint with Cinnamon. Used that for a number of years while running CentOS on the servers. Then, about five years ago, I came across Kubuntu. I've briefly tried a number of other newer releases of distros since then, like PopOS, Clear, Mint, Ubuntu and Fedora. I always come back to Kubuntu, and highly recommend it. The Plasma desktop allows you to tweak your work environment to the way you want it, rather than constantly having to adapt to other distros frequently changing landscape. I still recommend Mint for newcomers, but Kubuntu has become my goto distro.

@@RanCham727 Out of the box, it is generally more secure than most major distros, along with Ubuntu. This primarily due to the default settings and that both of them focus heavily on use in corporate / secure environments, either directly or downstream (RHEL). However, most distros can achieve the same security levels. My company does testing and certifications for many distros.

In therms of Cinnamon improvements, yes. But they are also working on preserving updated deb packages on the background, given that all the remaining Ubuntu-based distros are leaning towards snaps due to Canonical. It is evident that eventually Linux Mint will drop their Ubuntu heritage once they have the deb packages thing sorted out.
