Something I never noticed before watching this, but the reason the boys have crazy ideas is because Hal does too. Hal and Lois can get mad at the boys, but rewatching this show it's clear they get it from Hal.

thats one of the best things about the show imo, it realistically depicted a working class family with money issues Unlike other similar kids/teen sitcoms that usually centered around upper middle class families who seemingly never struggled with or even thought about money.
