Looking at the stats for most test runs, one name stands out for me - Kallis 13,000 runs at average of 55 batting at 3, then add in nearly 300 wickets at around 30 a piece plus 200 catches - phenomenal cricketer

I agree but Sangakkara should get a mention too. 57 is a crazy average and 12.4k runs in only 134 tests is quite ridiculous. To put that in perspective that is an average of ≈92.5 runs per match, far superior to Tendulkar’s ≈79.6 runs per match. If Sangakkara had played 200 games with his average runs per match he would have over 18500 runs 🤯

@euansullivan5233 you do have to remember that sangakkara played on some of the flattest pitches going in SL. He is an all time great no doubt but his average is inflated slightly compared to someone like Kallis. Most of his runs came in asia. He did have a very good record in Aus/NZ also but everywhere else it was nothing to write home about otherwise

The lack of batsman averaging over 50 is disappointing for England....similarly we haven't had a bowler average below 25 since Brian Statham who finished up in 1968. In that timeframe Australia have had about 8 batsman average over 50 and about 8 bowlers average under 25. Should put it on perspective. Well done Root.

out of those 8 only 2 have real figures Mcgrath and Warne both of them are better than pretty much any one we;ve had. The rest are bowlers wise are all people that have bnefited from some truely aweful umpiring and everything being handed to them, no balls not called allowed to bowl 4 or 5 bouncers an over the list goes on use of sandpaper etc. SMith should have been banned from test cricket for life. If he plays till the age of 38 or 39 and maintains the same level of consistency he has for the last few years, then those figures are definitely achievable. He looks focused and hungry enough to want to carry on till that age and maybe beyond. 4 years ago it looked more likely that the likes of Smith or Kohli would be sitting with the sort of run tally Root has today but he’s converted more starts into 100s since then (18 since Jan 2021) and just surged ahead of his contemporaries.

Bradman only hit 6 sixes in his entire test career. Given the vast improvement in bats since then while the cricket ball has remained virtually unchanged, in all likelihood his average would be better still if he had played in the modern era. He also played most of his tests against England (37) at a time when they and Australia were stronger than other cricket nations - with only five each against India, South Africa and the West Indies. He averaged 98.22 in 33 matches on home soil and 102.84 in 19 matches overseas. I've seen some pretty weak arguments in my time, but yours just might take the cake.

Joe Root had two distinctive lean periods, at least by his own incredible standards; one, the latter stages of his captaincy where he could not be as focussed on his batting to resolve those small issues all batters have because of his responsibilities as captain, and, two, when he tried to adapt his game to Bazball. Once he realised that standard Joe Root worked within that environment, he became the player we see now.

Lol Kohli is Home track Bully among fab 4 He has centuries but his away Average Is way Lesser than root Around 36 avg In nz, 35 in eng plus shameful 14 avg In Bangladesh So dont even compare root to Fraud✅️

@@RareClips324 Foolish guy... Kohli has 15 away hundreds which is more than root...Obviously he has struggled in England don't talk about Bangladesh you tell me what has root done in Bangladesh? India doesn't tour NZ very often 2014 and then in 2020 and then will play in 2026 end..

Shame cricket at such flat wicket no help for bowlers, one of the most boring test match to watch. ICC need to address wickets in general in Pakistan. Congratulations to Joe Root for what ne has achieved.

Pakistan strategy ....so that root can break sachin record........patta pitch....if root was so good ....he should have avoided playing against weak team like pakistan.....try to break record by playing against teams like aussies
