Great video and review! The "Nickname" was the result of a contest that Burlington Northern held, in which the winners had their names placed on a locomotive.

Based on the last two Rapido locomotives I've bought lately, I don't think there is anything better. They are just beautitful, high quality, top of the line loco's in my opinion. Your BN unit is just stunning! Beautiful model!

Very nice locomotive! I thought about getting one of these BN models, but when I asked Rapido about doing Frisco E8s, their answer was "next run". So I may be waiting until those come out before picking one (hopefully two) of these models then! Also, in regards to switching mode, it basically turns on both front and rear headlights and heavily restricts the locomotive's speed to better simulate yard movements. Probably better suited to models like the U25B, B36-7, Dash 8-40CM, GP38, and the other road switchers, but still a nice feature.

Nice review - but just one minor note - it's a clone of a Kadee coupler, and not the real deal. Also I wish the grab irons on the nose were a little thinner. That said, yes, this is definitely one of the best engines yet from Rapido for sure! Love that clip of the 9902 blasting through the station as the 9924 came to a stop. Thanks for sharing. My 9902 is on its way to me too.. Wish I had a 9924 as well!

The tiger stripes on BN units comes from a series of vehicle vs train accidents, where the company felt the green cab, especially in the pacific nw, blended in too much with the surrounding nature, there fore the tiger stripe experiment was had

Contrary to belief, those two fans added in the middle aren't dynamic brakes. They're the cooling fans for the large 6 cylinder Cummins or Cat HEP engines that were mounted in the back replacing steam generators. The pipes running over the roof from the rear carried the coolant. All of these E9 rebuilds were none dynamic.

cool! Why those numbers specifically?

Because 9917 is owned by LTEX Rail and 9912 is being restored to operational condition by the Tennessee Central Railway Museum.@@mrmrb04

Thank you for an excellent video of a great looking locomotive, it is a way bit pricey for me. By the way how did this BN unit get to Schiller Park? You could have taped over the station sign with one from one of the Burlington's stops (Just kidding) My favorite EMD E unit was the Q's 9995 (BN9925). I took my first a photo of that unit in the mid-fifties while I was walking up the ramp to the Western Ave crew house a couple of blocks from my flat.

@@TWIGYBNSF It's better than the wafer thin first run. It still could be better. I would seal the carbody to create a large sound chamber, then replace the speaker with one from SSS.

early 90s metra coaches had black trucks on the bn. seems alot of videos dont mention this.Does Rapiido offer the American flag decal the was put in place for the gulf war?

That's quite possible, but they were silver that got dirty to the point they were black. But some were black. Fusion scale graphics makes the decals for the e units and budd cars

@@TWIGYBNSF In that case the E7, of the Penn Central era on the New York and Long Branch Railroad now NJT coast line. There used to be a model railroad club in the second floor of the station,destroyed later by arson, and during night time operating sessions the passenger trains would go by. They were headed by three locomotives. Usually E8s and occasionally an E7 with their rectangular windows. They were much fewer a fleet, from the New York Central,than the much larger fleet of E8s from the PRR. As we heard them approaching we would run to the open window and watch them pull into the station. Great sound, great memories.

Probably depends on the time of the day in between rush hours
@snagletoothscott37293 ай бұрын
For the time period of the E's, typically the local dinkies (2 sets every hour weekdays, one set every hour and half/2 hours on weekends) was 3 cars weekdays and up to 5 cars on weekends. The reason being one less train set on the weekends, but also generally more local people using the train to get around for things, like games, concerts, museum, shopping, ect ect. On the weekends though it was more often then not just depending on whatever set they grabbed. could be anywhere from 3 to 5 cars. rarely they might grab a 6-car set, especially if their was a big game or some other major event going on in Chicago that weekend. The rush hour "Dinky Parade" trains would have anywhere from 4 to 10 cars, with 6-8 being most common. Something like the Willow Springs express might only have 4 or 5 cars becuase it could make fast turnarounds, whereas the Downers Grove and and Naperville express trains would often have 9 or 10 cars, becuase the round was much longer.
@elleryparsons24332 ай бұрын
If I am Correct Goin To Chicago they Would Have 3 Cars But Coming From Chicago They Would Have 5 Cars.
