I love the juxtaposition of the whole “bad boy” troupe here. Bobby comes from a good home and is a popular kid in school and yet he has this rebellious and volatile way of being. Compare that to James, someone who has family issues, enjoys biker culture, and was the person Laura was cheating on Bobby with. James instead carries an air of innocence and generally tries to do good things where we would expect him to be “the bad boy”.

Really love how he's given much more overt darkness to his character in Fire Walk With Me. Makes his transformation even more compelling

One of the best characters on the show.

Great video. Really explores his character and why he was one of my favourites. The only part I don’t agree with is that Bobby loved Laura. He barely showed any sadness when she died and was far more interested in finding out who she cheated on him with. That’s not love. I think he was more in love with the idea of having a girlfriend who was the most popular girl in town. Cooper picked up right away that he didn’t kill her and never loved her. If Shelley had died he would have been heartbroken because he truly loved her. Just my opinion. Others may disagree and that’s fine

The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, Fire Walk With Me, and The Missing Pieces show that Bobby was deeply in love with Laura from the beginning. Bobby and Laura started dating when they were 13 or 14, long before she was the popular homecoming queen. She turned him into the hardened bad boy we see in the series, which is why he barely showed any emotion when she died. He was also used and manipulated by her for years. Their last night together was him realizing she didn't want him, she just wanted the drugs. Bobby's issues are mainly because he loved Laura and did everything to please her. He wouldn't have become a drug dealer and kill a guy if he didn't love her. Their relationship was very complicated, to say the least.

Bobby "scene stealer" Briggs embodies the most dynamic aspects of the James Dean archetype. James Hurley got the leftovers.

Great video about my favorite character. He had the strongest character arc over the 3 seasons.

Bobby was intense, in a way even more intense than Leo, because Leo in all his evilness was cold and rational, and somehow predictable, while Bobby was impulsive with a tendency to explode in anger. His inner transformation remains one of the best of Twin Peaks. When he tells his daughter that the next time Steve does something wrong to her, he'll bust his ass, that's am awesome moment of a father protecting his daughter. Also, it gets more and more difficult for me to accept Laura's mystical background as a chosen one. The Laura orb seems even more out of place to me, when I think of how corrupted she was, and how she corrupted people like Bobby.

I know what you mean about Laura. Lately I've even been thinking that Judy might be Laura's dark side just like Bob was Leland's.
@MarvinFalz5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsnow1 I can see that. I'm more and more convinced that when Philip Jeffries told evil Coop he had already met Judy, he didn't refer to someone evil Coop had met in person in the third season, but in the first two, when he was still whole as Agent Cooper. Since Laura was already dead, maybe he met Judy in Sarah Palmer.

@@MarvinFalz Yes, I think you're right about Judy inhabiting Sarah Palmer. In season 3 Sarah removes her face to reveal the inchoate, overarching evil that is Judy moments before murdering the man at the bar who aggressively approached her. Sarah became possessed by Judy once her spirituality (I.e., her spiritual immune system) all but broke down due to her overwhelming grief and recognition that she was unable to stand up against (I.e., was a facilitator) Leland for his unspeakable evil. Her negative, or perhaps lifeless, energy became a convenient channel for Judy's entrance.

@@anthonymalik9952 I was just listening to the Twin Peaks Rewatch Podcast on Part 4 of The Return, when they read fan mail, and discussed whether or not Mark Frost and David Lynch want to explore further Sarah's possible complicity with Leland in abusing Laura, and I had to think of your comment, namely the part about Sarah becoming possessed by Judy due to her overwhelming grief. Maybe Judy is like the female version of Bob? Leland wasn't constantly possessed by Bob, maybe the same goes for Sarah, but with growing grief and recognition of her part in abuse and murder of her own daughter the possession becomes more and more constant. Maybe that's what her constant intake of alcohol and nicotine and her passive life in front of a TV points to. The actual content she's watching might be a representation of her inner image of herself. Violence, beating herself down all the time, in an endless loop. And the lions killing the buffalo might represent Leland and herself slowly killing Laura.

season 3 is simply not twin peaks. turning laura into a gold jesus orb is just one of many things that makes it totally incompatible with season 1 and 2

Bobby was great in the first season but in season two he was dull, but you can say that about a lot of the other characters. Leo was a great character too, thoroughly wasted in the second season and Bobby's friendship with Mike was great (again first season) and it's a pity we didn't get to see Mike and Bobby together in season three, even one scene would have been nice. Anyway, love it in the first episode (or pilot of season one), at the roadhouse, "Mutt and Jeff just walked in", "oh what a wonderful world". Totally summed Mike and Bobby's relationship to the town's 'good guys'.

He's basically the Cecil of the show, broiled in crime but motivated by white lodge fury mostly from his dad. His name Bobby is an extremely intentional counterpoint to Bob, as if white lodge Bobby in mockery of Bob.
