MC Hammer was EVERYTHING for 3 years running. His “Pray” is the greatest. Talent, generosity, faith. He had it all. Ex-military, he hired 100s of dancers to tour with him, all regular kids off the streets. Trained them, work outs, no drugs . . . His generous nature was his downfall - it couldn’t support the weight of all those ppl and he lost millions, tried to go hard core rap, realized he needed to go back to his faith and true self. I was a kid, maybe 12years old, who loved taking dance lessons when this song came out. Hammer popularized the pants, we called them hammer pants and everyone wanted them. For our dance recital that year my class got to choose our costumes and we wore gold sequined hammer pants with neon crop tops. I added a side pony tail and a gold sequin headband- Rambo style, LMOA!!! We had photos taken. I had long forgot about this till I am visiting my 80year old father a little while back. Even though he has a iPhone and iPad full of current pictures, he tells me he still keeps photos of all his kids in his wallet to show people. So I ask to see mine... it's me, in my hammer pants, pink neon 1/2 top and pony. I just imagined my dad describing me to some stranger, "my youngest, I'm so proud, she is a sales rep for a big company and has traveled extensively. Here's what she looks like"
@anderspersson70844 жыл бұрын
The pants is actually older design, it was design for monks in a bransch of the Buddhism were male monks in monastery wearing them because they waiting for someone of them monks to give birth to a reborn Buddha, so they have been used in India for a longer time, and backpack travellers in the 70-90s took them home and out into the rest of the world.

Yes, we all loved MC Hammer and so many of the early 90s acts. They had energy. I remember trying to dance to this when I was a kid, trying the moves in the video. NOPE. You needed endurance just to be able to do some of the stuff for more than 1 minute. Watch a live MC Hammer performance. He and his crew were doing that for long stretches at a time. The desire to dance to this music gave you reason to keep up your cardio. BTW that side shuffle is iconic. LOL Also gotta say, I'm not really surprised you young guys haven't heard of this music. Your ears are likely bombarded by the new "pop" music and commercials. Music that's older tends to get relegated to "classics", "oldies", "retro", "old school", "throwback", etc. I get it. That's what radio does, pushes the new. But I'm glad you guys are taking an interest in the old music, even if it's just for developing your channel. If you have a broader perspective, or greater knowledge and experience, and you learn from that, then marketing will have less effect on you and whatever new songs come out, if they suck, you won't be fooled to believe they are good. Good luck.
