For those who don't know, falsetto is not natural in males' vocal ranges. It has to be forced, and Barry Gibb's falsetto is one of the smoothest EVER! His changes back and forth were so natural! He's the oldest brother and the only one left. It has weighed on him heavily, and he went into a deep depression and stopped performing because he just couldn't imagine performing without his brothers, even though they didn't always get along so well (understatement). I did read last year that Barry is talking about touring again to honor his brothers, and try and help his recovery from losing them. That would be awesome! We love you, Barry!!!

Interesting fact: When doing CPR, to revive someone, they often recommend this song as a way to keep the correct pace for chest compressions. So play that bassline in your head and then pump the person's chest to the rhythm. You'll be doing it at around the correct speed that you need to do it for resuscitation - the rhythm ticks along at the speed of a human heart. And, yeah, I don't doubt that this song is also recommended because it's called "Stayin' Alive", while you're trying to keep someone alive. A good reminder of what to do: "We've got to keep this person stayin' alive. Oh, yeah, that song. Now I remember what to do". Also, the Bee Gees are the absolute masters of the falsetto harmonies. It's their signature and no-one does it like the brothers Gibb. Because, yeah, those three guys are all brothers. Unfortunately, there's now only one of them left. But they were the kings of the disco back in the '70s (and if you ever do a "first time reaction" to Diana Ross's "Chain Reaction", these guys wrote it and do all the backing vocals on that one).

But he does. He has often sung those high notes in interviews and in concerts. Perhaps I am not understanding your comment, but the note doesn't dictate how open or closed one's mouth is.
@sandrakrouse36743 жыл бұрын
When making videos, most never actually sing. Bee Gees could most definitely sing in harmony and individually, absolutely no auto-tune ever required. Watch old interview clips and no instruments, ask them to sing and it was easily done, They started before they were teens and never had any formal training. Their music exploded in the late 70's and 80's but they had hit records in every decade since (at least) the 1960's. Barry Gibb, of the glorious hair, just recently released another album, Greenfields. He is the eldest and only brother still living. Those voices will never be duplicated.

Hardest song to try to sing cos he sings it in falsetto the whole way. Funnily it is also used to train people on how do CPR as the songs beat has 104 beats per minute, and the recommended chest compression per minute is between 100 - 120. This song, despite being funky AF, is about struggling to make it on the streets of New York City (a sorta disco preview to the much more lucid "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash five years later, maybe...). Their earliest big hit is also about surviving a situation, and predates their falsetto/disco-led sound you hear here: "New York Mining Disaster 1941" (actually inspired by a welsh mining disaster in 1966, though there was a mining disaster in New York in 1939). I always found it interesting how this band produced two very different hits, a decade apart, that both had lyrical content about struggle and hardship.
