My theory is that he is in the same universe as SPLIT and UNBREAKABLE. He is obviously a regular human with an advanced ability. His power is either a form of Luck Control or Probability Manipulation. His weakness could be that he has a certain stockpile of Luck that he can use, but he used up most of his Luck to escape the trap that was set for him. When he was finally caught, he probably gain some added luck by letting himself experience bad luck. This is only a theory but knowing how Shamalan puts some of his films in the same universe, I could see this be possible

"could be that he has a certain stockpile of Luck that he can use, but he used up most of his Luck to escape the trap that was set for him" His stockpile is probably just how much energy he has on him, like a battery with stored energy, and yeah he used a lot. I think he can naturally recharge just by not using it though. The bad luck theory to refill makes sense too!! Edit: I have a theory, he has split personality like the other characters, but his alter ego is genuinely just like a 500 IQ mastermind/escape artist. Maybe it's less entirely supernatural, and he just got lucky with a smart alter?

He's got a supervillain name, a few different powers, (intelligence, strength, stealth) and the way he's shown to get away with stuff even ties in perfectly with one of the messages of the Unbreakable trilogy: Believing in yourself is everything. Cooper has the guts to try things to escape, without the hesitation about getting caught that would lead to... getting caught. I can imagine a sequel where Jamie becomes The Butcher's henchman. He already has an interest in the killings, and the fact that he accidentally helped The Butcher could lead him to believe that's what he was meant to do. Not very likely, but M. Night Shyamalan is all over the place, so you never know.

[0:50] While particularly great of a movie, I did like one aspect... That Cooper (Josh Harnett) did *_genuinely_* love his children, and it does not even slightly enter his mind to Murder-Suicide his children, as Cooper intended with his killing wife Rachel (Alison Pill) and himself. Murder-Suicide is an act of _Selfishness_ &/or _Spite._ I was also half-afraid that M. Night Shyamalan would try to add the _'twist'_ that Riley (Ariel Donoghue) &/or Logan (Lochlan Miller) were psychopath serial killers like Cooper too. Hopefully not doing such if there is a 'Trap'-sequel.

@eggled15663 ай бұрын
Maybe I've been watching too much Corridor Crew, but why does 1:40 look like a VFX composite shot? Does it just look that way because of the lighting? They obviously would want to get him clearly lit, so might have loaded up the inside with lots of light from the obstructed sides/top, contrasting with the less lit exterior. Or maybe that's why it is a composite shot, they couldn't get the lighting right in a real shot with him in the truck? There are literally cuts perfectly when he enters the truck and, once in, when he stops interacting with anyone outside of it, so I'm leaning towards composite.

Pulling our legs, tongue in cheek, over the top performance by the marvelous Josh Hartnett. How did they not see even in the trailers the movie was going to be different than his others- NO big twist, no serious characters, no realism in Trap? 🤔

Really love Josh Hartnetts performance. The subtle signs he gives that he is enjoying the thrill of being chased and taking really risky decisions that could easily have him caught throughout the movie shows what kind of psychopath he is. As well as his paranoia around his own wife and his ability to manipulate and cause harm seamelessly.

I can’t believe you guys took this film SERIOUSLY! As Night said, it’s funny, playful, following a serial killer with a split personality in this cat and mouse game. Hartnett said some scenes were hilarious to Night and that he himself had a lot of fun walking the tightrope between drama and comedy. The concept is PREPOSTEROUS! There are a zillion improbabilities! The dialogue has some delightful put ons. Jamie says Cooper gets a free tee shirt bcuz he has such good family values. Giving the tool back, We wouldn’t want you to cut yourself. I mean, it’s so obvious these bits are INTENTIONAL. Rachel: Sit down, put your cleaver away and let’s have the last piece of Riley’s pie. 😂 Cooper goes into King Kong mode: wild-eyed, lurching towards mommy, and SWAT tases him 4,392 times. Up he springs and gouges a guys eyes before being brought down by the 5’1” gray-haired ole lady profiler with the final nonstop tases. SWAT lets the killer with OCD pick up his son’s bike then puts him in the van, cuffed in front. REALLY? You guys didn’t think this was hysterical?! Hartnett is sooo over the top, the final scene is beautiful. The Norman Bates smile, the maniacal laugh, he killed it. And finally, Jamie in the credits. Night makes sure we know how funny the movie is. I can’t believe you guys missed the whole spoof. Night said he knows his audiences are intelligent and he never underestimates them. Apparently, a lot of people in the audience for this movie prove him wrong. Glad there are so many in the audience that got the conceit and the tone right from the trailers! 4* for sure! (Have to take away one star bcuz Saleka almost torpedoed the plot with her cringeworthy performance. Bad casting, Dad.)

I thought this wasn’t a twist in the traditional sense. I was hoping the twist was that he wasn’t the serial killer but did watch the serial killer footage so was worried he would get caught - then it turns out it was his wife as he drives away in handcuffs (like she goes back inside the house almost feeling relieved then her phone vibrates and she picks it up and turns out there is another person trapped in a room and a sly smile crosses her face - as if she knew her husband would always be the one she set up to take the fall.)

I thought the twist would be it wasn't his real daughter but one of his victim's who after killing took the baby and raised her. And his wife was in on it and someone saw the teen girls vlog post about going to the concert and saw she resembled her mother and thought maybe she was the daughter that had been missing.

Honestly, I love this movie. It does take itself some liberties when it comes to its own believability by how Hartnett can get out or avoid danger, but I get what Shyamalan is trying to say with his character. A family father who tries so desperately to hide his true nature and goes to lengths that are beyond redemption. But that character is driven by pure cold and calculated determination to never get caught and even if he gets caught to still have a Plan B, C etc. just to have his own perfect little family that he never had.

The twist of the ending is just that he manages to still have a chance to escape even after all of what happened in the movie, the subtext of the scene was that it’s the first time he genuinely smiled unlike the other times when he’s trying to keep up the charade, probably smiling as despite thinking he’s “out of control” he is fully in control of his situation regardless

The ending of this didn't make sense... Here are the facts: 1. The serial killer was being escorted by 4 (count 'em) other police cars/trucks. 2. From inside the back of the truck, there's no way for the serial killer to get to the driver... (there's no window) 3. The door of the truck was locked from the outside. With all that said, the serial killer is in the back of a LOCKED police truck, being escorted by SEVERAL ARMED POLICE OFFICERS. Once he's taken to the station and they realize he's no longer cuffed, we're supposed to believe that he somehow escapes??? No, M. Night.... no...

The surprise twist here is that M. Night Shyamalan actually thought Josh Hartnett's character being revealed as a serial killer would be a surprise twist. I figured that out just by watching the trailer.

So did everyone? That's why you would go see the movie? Like Mr. Brooks or Dexter.

@@ZexZorNova My point is that the film was set up so that the viewers were not supposed to know he was a serial killer right off the bat. Shyamalan executed this rather poorly which unfortunately makes sense with a one-trick pony director like him.

Can anyone help us out at our house: We don't understand why Ms Night Shyamalan went into the house with him and his daughter in the final act. He made her drive him to his house and was just going to get out, leaving her completely free to call the cops who were already engaged in a man-hunt for this guy. Was it because she thought she could save the dude in the cellar? That's what she ended up doing, but it wasn't clear that was her plan. And that plan was... she contrived to steal the girl's phone so that when she offered to take a selfie with the girl, he'd lend her his phone and she'd be able to steal it and... uh... engage her fan base to identify the location of the victim etc etc? So was it a clever plan on her part or quick thinking on her part? So plotty.
