Hail to the side job, on another note I really wish KZbin did not take away Super Chat as that has nothing to do with advertisers and is basically KZbin's version of patreon. I'm not doing KZbin for money as you say, because it has been the best platform for me to grow an audience in comparison to Facebook that requires you to pay just to show up at your work

cetriya's Art n Comics Channel super chat is not a donation program? Because it involves money period like a subsciption base or buying a digital game concept and youtube wants the cut of it too. They have to contorl ANYTHING that is money that goes through them or 3rd party affiliates that are a part of youtube. As well they take 30% of the superchat, this is not part of the 45% they take from the partnership. If you want pure money profit use twitch because bits and affiliates with steamlads donations you get the 100% of what its worth for bits and steamlads I think is 7% of their cut and you get 93% of per donation. They took it away because it's money related, not just because of the ad apocalypse. Though it did mess with the partnership and money, youtube lumps them all together for easy contorl.

My problem with the new monetizaton rules is that it attacked the smaller youtubers more than the bigger youtuebrs, which was the problem. And yeah, I'm fine, I didn't start youtube for the money, I started it because it was my new years resolution to start doing speedpaints, and it got me in the habit of doing art daily. I have patreon, and ko-fi, tumblr and deviantart, I make art to make people happy, if I only get a little bit, that's okay. Would I like to make a career of it? Hells yeah, but my focus should always be on making art, and making people happy.

From year 7 to year 9 my form teacher was always asking what I wanted to do at parents evening, and I always wanted to be an equestrian because I love horses, then there was being an artist cause I have been drawing since I could remember. I chose artist over equestrian, because 1. I am allergic to all animal hair, some more than others, and I knew I would constantly be taking something so my eyes wouldn't puff up from irritation or always be taking my inhaler for my asthma. 2. my mom and dad didn't have the money to get me weekly lessons, and I didn't want to put them through money trouble. And I don't regret it! Taking digital design in my first year of college, gave me great friends I would of never of met otherwise, and I wouldn't of improved my art as much, if I hadn't surrounded myself with other artists. Now I'm in my second year of college part of the Animation & Illustration class, made more irreplaceable friends and improving my art every time I draw. Could not of asked for a better life in my opinion.

I love your rants and story times and such. And watching you draw makes me feel better about my own work. I get to see you go through step by step and i can see "hey, that's just like what i do!" and "it's okay to not follow the lines exactly!" etc. You and several of the other artist youtubers are some of the best inspiration around. Thank you for being here

I enjoy your videos, period, but I'd like to point one thing out: I don't think you're an optimist. You're definitely a realist here. But it's cool how you're able to find your happiness in making other people happy, especially because most people would expect someone like that to be "bubbly and lets be magical unicorns and princesses," but you're not. And that's....for lack of a better word, pretty cool and inspiring, at least to me, especially because my peers are sunshine rainbow balls that think that if you throw out good vibes the universe will make things work even if you don't put in any work. So I suppose I've found a bit of a kindred spirit in you. And yes, you've made my day :)

Yea a lot of people forget that at one point KZbin didn't have monetization AT ALL and when it was first rolled out it was by invitation-only. Look where we are now.... I think the recent changes aren't just Logan Paul's fault (other scandals and questionable content is to blame too) and this is KZbin's answer to a one-size-fits-all solution.I don't expect this to be the only change that youtube implements this year and I think this news will help alternative sites to pop up (there's talk that Amazon will open a KZbin competitor but it's too early to say when).

You have a really good point tho. I started my KZbin channel as a way to just put my art out there for fun and now with university (my uni is a creative media one so animation and design and film and what not) and what not they actually want us to create social media accounts to advertise ourselves to land jobs and/or internships once we graduate. It’s actually great cause they don’t want us to be wasting our time or theirs if we just do the course for the money otherwise we’ll be left with a $54,000 piece of paper for nothing. The creative industry in Australia is soo niche so I’ve decided to take up commissions hoping that I’ll make some side money while having a regular job until I can make it into an animation company wether it be in Australia or somewhere else in the world because I love doing art it’s my way of relaxing and escaping the world not because of the money. That’s the same reason why I made my KZbin channel so I can post my art process and now my animations as a form of advertisement and examples of my work for future employers.

I think these are really well thought out and interesting words that are good to hear. I'm pissed off about the current youtube changes just as anyone else because i was close to getting some money for my stuff too, but I'm determined to make this a good opportunity to try new things on my channel and set some solid goals. I also think it's a good chance to take the time to think about what's important to people- the money or the passion for making things. One thing that I am getting a bit ticked off at though are bigger youtubers saying "if you can't get 1000 followers in a year then you aren't doing your job right" and forgetting that growth is exponential and slow in the beginning. I was able to gain 500 after about 6-8 months, but to say that people who can't do that in a year aren't doing their job right is just rude especially if they don't know how long ago the person's channel started.

Parziivale well I have to agree that is very stupid. Heck I've had my KZbin and been on KZbin for years before hitting a thousand. It's hard and it really is luck-based / random based. Again if my videos hadn't blown up the way they did I would not have the following I have right now I know I wouldn't the future because I've had a study increase constantly since I've been doing KZbin and work and posting online. But the sudden change is what caught me off-guard which is why I really think people should understand that having a 1000 subscriber goal is hard tack it's one of the hardest ones to get.

You made some good points and what you said is true at the end of the day but you see, while I'm into KZbin just to share my thoughts and ideas and it was never really about the money because I would've done KZbin regardless (on my gaming channel mostly lol), I think the inane thing about this change is that the algorithms are already fucked up enough as is. While yes it means that you'll have to really haul ass to get your channel noticed, it's just disappointing because you're already fighting the tides as is because the algorithm doesn't really like promoting smaller channels no matter how good the video is which in turn, makes it harder for the channel to get noticed so the new rules are just a slap in the face towards the smaller channels who are genuinely trying to work hard to get their videos seen if you know what I mean? And yeah, I'm fully aware you shouldn't make KZbin your job, at least when starting out as it's important to build an audience first and foremost. I will not dispute that at all. But you gotta admit that for smaller channels, it's pretty suckish that they have these new obstacles to face just because of the actions of some popular insipid moron who didn't even get an repercussions until a lot of people were talking about it (and that was like I think a weeks worth). My fear is that with these new guidelines in place, some smaller channels are going to feel that the only way to get noticed quickly is to spam an obnoxious amount and do lots of clickbait and it'll be so disappointing because to be honest, I like smaller channels much more than the larger ones because they don't do these things and generally have more open-ended topics on their channels and don't play it safe (especially with that fucking stupid ukulele music LOL). You're right, it's really only a matter of time before some new competent video hosting site rises up and gives KZbin a run for it's money in the same way that happened with MySpace/Facebook and just like MySpace, KZbin will have no one to blame but itself for implementing so many unnecessary changes that no one asked for. At the end of the day, I enjoy making videos and will keep making them regardless of whether I get paid or not and I encourage others to stay the course as well but I am very understanding of why some smaller channels are annoyed of this.

To be honest should have been higher, like 5,000 subscribers because that's when I see at least the artist side artist taking their stuff more serious and when they hit 10k they are getting a good fair very small amount of money or traction of people to their channel. Still not to live off of but it shows people are interested in their stuff.

I see youtubers just making videos for money barely make it in KZbin. People these days don't realize that majority "successful" youtubers started youtube as a coping mechanisms or as advertisement or sharing their life experiences or simply wanting to make videos for fun. Those who want to do KZbin should do it for a reason, and not for "easy bucks". Some people aren't stupid, we can smell money hungry youtubers and try to steer clear from them. Sorry for a long comment, it bothers me when people common sense disappeared to the void and never come back. Fyi, I want your voice as an audiobook person! Have a wonderful day.

I've been thinking about doing my own videos for youtube for a few months now, mostly to talk about manga, writing, art, and fandoms, but I don't want to do it for the money. KZbin is not a stable enough place to make money, which is important to me, but I want to do youtube for fun and to meet/talk to people that have the same interests as me. It would be a hobby for me. I can't understand why people would depend on youtube for income without having a part-time or full-time job. I just agree with you.

I do a thing on my Instagram, not going to mention it because it doesn't need to be, and whenever I do it and the person who gets it is happy. It makes me happy, even if I can't know for certain that they are happy because I can't see their faces, but if they say they love it I'm thrilled. So yeah I know what you mean when you talk about doing it because you like it, I mean I wouldn't draw if I didn't like it and if I didn't draw constantly I wouldn't get better at art. Ummm anyway this is probably too long and written in a way that is confusing XD

really thanks for that video, it has many thoughts, that my thoughts on the stuff were similiar too. and some new thoughts, I haven't thought about. I find it outstanding, that you say it's a ramble, but I think the thoughts are very collected and clearly structured. when I ramble about my thoughts, I would tend to repeat stuff ^^ so some of my thoughts about doing youtube as a job: - there are a fuckton of people already doing it - there are "limited" topics - there are a limited amount of people, who would be interested in those topics - and would they even find it, and find it interesting for forever meh, I think I suck at expressing myself, I thought hard how to, and I think its still something missing >.

But, I would use KZbin just to get out of my parents hairs so I have my own house & pay for my own shiznit. I think KZbin should do a program where Artist & Animators pick their own Ads that they want to support such as HobbyLobby, Micheal's, or whatever so they won't have to worry about Ads. But, YT is so egotistic they don't really care at all. I prefer to use FaceBook as a source of full income since I just cracked their code on how other businesses make their dough.
