I am a 67 yr old retired nurse and volunteer at a local hospital. We are starting to see more Covid patients lately. I am going to get the booster today. Last summer my dad and I both had Covid. He was 94 at the time and our doctor put him on Paxlovid immediately. I didn’t feel so bad and he gave me a 12 hr window to decide. If I didn’t feel any worse I could hold off. I actually felt better almost immediately so I never took the Paxlovid. A year on I wouldn’t take the chance again.

I cannot speak for another, but @karenkaren3189 may be referring to Dr Griffin’s recommendation to take paxlovid based on risk factors (age>50, co-morbidities) rather than how the patient feels the first week.

I’m concerned that COVID-19 is here to stay. It’s important to know that. Like the flu, it’s important to start living a more healthy lifestyle now. And if you’re sick get immediate medical attention. We can no longer try to wait out upper respiratory illness if we are over 50. The illness could be pneumonia, flu or worse. My only concern is how medical providers respond. If you want to be seen immediately are doctors and hospitals routinely testing for COVID-19?

It’s time to have PCP’s test patients for markers or antibodies or COVID exposure. People have future medical challenges due to this pandemic.

@@gferraro8353 I was thinking of you and yours today when I saw how quick FL.1.5.1 shot up on the cdc variant, regional map for my area. Hospitalizations for people who have COVID have doubled in the two adjacent counties by me, in the last month. (Still nothing near 2020 rates.) I have all my boosters, the last one in April (6) but I am N95 masking, sigh, again. I saw what COVID did to my aunt in 2020, and that guides me, and my friend who would not get tested when sick, but said, “Keep your mask on.” It’s not easy in the hot summer. I avoid indoor crowds and I am grateful for the many stores who provide outdoor pick-up conveniences. I have seen other people posting they recently got it for the first time, too. I am going to check with my GP on my last pneumonia vaccine. It’s been a while. I think I had the one with protection against 13 variants. Now there is one for 20 or 23, I think. RSV may not be as contagious as COVID. To be determined. If you have any friends/family who work at a local hospital, ask what they are seeing. Just take one day at a time. We have no idea how these variants will act in the future, but historically they seem to get popular in our summers and get going after the first cold spell.

Daniel, Bill Nye the science guy is a public servant as you are. Bill Nye is mainly an educator. He does not spread miss information. He talks a lot about climate change, which is at least as important for people to understand as virology, immunology, medical issues. I am guessing you are jealous of his popularity.
