I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor.
I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this KZbin channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.

Regarding pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis, wouldn't that also protect you if you were bitten by a bat in an endemic region and didn't realize it?

40:00 Drug users are not idiots and most of them aren't happy with their habit so it's not hard to get them to check with the researchers every now and then specially if you offer them some medical attention everytime they show up.

About the measles outbreak in Philly, I heard in the news a couple of weeks ago that one of the children who was supposed to be quarantined, was still brought to their daycare, exposing other young children.

It's rainfall and maybe economic crisis. In Brazil, Pres. Lula refused to purchase the Japanese vaccine against dengue - so, incompetence is also a factor. Lula's Workers Party used to be very good in public health - one of the Representatives who created the National Health System was in the party - Dr. Eduardo Jorge left the party at the end of 2005 and is now in the Green Party. The guy is a giant and maybe you would like to interview him! (He's an M.D.)

Academics are citing Wikipedia 😂 no leg to stand on.

If you’re talking about the discussion at the 20:00 minute mark, the speakers were talking about how they *contributed* to the wikipedia page, and fussed over the editing (which is what we want: experts contributing to public knowledge sources.) While some of them mentioned using Wikipedia as a starting point for non-virology topics (minerals and geology), this also doesnt necessarily mean that they used Wikipedia as their primary source. This isn’t unusual among academics. Not too sure if you were making a legit criticism or just trolling, though.
