Hi Dana's Faith. I'm glad you are enjoying the classic band U2. I have noticed some of the comments concerning the band. As a Galic person they were very political in there song lyrics. There is so much more to this song than spreading the message of love. It's also a song about Dr. King, with references to Jesus Christ ("...one man betrayed with a kiss..."). It delves into themes of the death of a man for the sake of a dream, and for the forgiveness of humanity, and the resurrection of the spirit, along with the continuation of the dream. It was also a prayer for Ireland. The images of the children, and the wall that said "East Link"(a housing project in Dublin), were meant to evoke the dream of Dr King when he said that he could see a day when his children would be judged by the content of their character, rather than their skin color, and a plea that Ireland could find a man of King's stature, and ability to bring peace to Northern Ireland, and the religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants; and a time where the children could grow up and be judged not on their religion, but on their character, and value as human beings.
@mr.invisable69192 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY!
@mikekelly58692 жыл бұрын
The East Link is a toll bridge. The "wall" is the bridge deck that's upright to let a ship pass through. The "Catholic .v. Protestant" label on the Troubles is also a bit of a media/propaganda creation, the conflict was/is idealogical and political at heart, it was/is about equal power and equal rights which makes it even more relevant to the message of the song.

Pride (In The Name Of Love) was awarded Song of the Year in 1984. This song is about the assassination of MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King Jr.; January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesman and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. In 1976 they were still in school when they formed the Band.

Mia and Juliet: 1) Excellent choice!! This song is about Martin Luther King and today is Martin Luther King day. 2) U-2 could easily associate with MLK's cause. From the 1940's to 1999 Northern Ireland (where U-2 is from) had it's "troubles". The IRA (Irish Republican Party) was trying to run the British out of Northern Ireland. The IRA set off a long series of bombs towards this goal-the deadliest, which went off in a marketplace on a Sunday morning killing many women and children. The incident is marked in the U-2 song-Sunday Bloody Sunday. The IRA finally called a truce in 1999 (not surrendering) realizing that all they were doing was killing their own people. 3) I sent you a Bandslam DVD. U-2 is referenced in the movie. "Because of the Sex Pistols some guys in Ireland formed a band called U-2. Seeing U-2 inspired a band called The Killers. The list is endless!!" 4) To see a truly excellent movie about "the troubles", watch Patriot Games, starring Harrison Ford.
