You hear two gunshots in the home where your young children are, and you DON'T immediately go in and check on your children? I don't believe that for a minute. Unless you already know that they are fine, because you set up the scene.

If there was no gunshot entrance wound, then that would make it more likely that she was hit with a blunt object. She was in a coma and blood soaked the pillow her head was on. Even if she doesn't remember anything but the closet, it's not uncommon for people to miss pieces of their memory. Everything still points to her ex and a cover-up.

Interesting though that she says the journal was off only mentioning the word choice... was the handwriting hers then, or was it on her computer? I'm suprised she didn't deny wanting to self delete also. Also curious that he received a text from her while out with a colleague... if he brought her phone with him and made the text himself, then wouldn't the cell towers pick up that movement? Other than those, which may have satisfactory explanations, I too think it was him that did it and the police/prosecuter may have covered for him somewhat.

This is a huge gap in the good doctor's assessment. I deal with lots of people with neurotrauma, memory does not return in coherent, sensible swaths of time. It is a jumble of snippets and many never return with context, motivation, or even things like sounds or clear images. Sometimes they're more impressions than conclusive memories. Unfortunately, I think this is a huge hole in this evaluation.

@@grahamgreene779 Depends where you live. Where I live the police and courts look after their own. I was on jury duty and the DA gave us a lecture about supporting our police (who were being reviewed by the Justice Department for misuse of force - shooting too many people). Another example is a policeman who probably killed his wife after she asked for a divorce. He called his police and EMT buddies over and they majorly trampled the crime scene. This destroyed evidence. I think he probably got away with murder. This was seven to ten years ago so I don't remember if he lost his job or not.

@rullmourn1142 Did you ever think the prosecutor just doesn’t have a strong enough case to get this thing it’s called a conviction? Because it’s probably very likely there isn’t enough evidence. If Jessica was the one who fired the shots, I'd be curious to know why she fired twice. Or, more precisely, why did she apparently miss the first shot at an incredibly awkward angle and, why with the second shot, did she shoot herself in the top of the head at another really awkward angle? If her goal was to end her life due to increasingly overwhelming stress, she certainly chose an incredibly strange way to approach it. Particularly when considering the other, much "easier" and much more effective methods of self-harming with a firearm. This is the part (when combined with all of the other seemingly incriminating evidence) that has always made me lean more toward Matthew being the guilty party. Regardless, this is definitely one of the more bizarre cases being discussed and analyzed by the true crime community and I think Doc is correct when he suggests that we will probably never know what actually took place in that closet.

A better explanation is that Matthew shot Jessica around 11pm, and took her phone with him to the Waffle House. He sent the text message to himself from her phone. When he returned, he put Jessica's phone back in the cupboard with her and locked the door. It makes zero sense that Jessica did that to herself. It is not unusual for victims of trauma to initially block out and later remember events near the time of the trauma. Yes, he's dumb, and if the Sherrif's dept. didn't collude and conduct a non-investigation, he wouldn't have successfully covered up his crime.

I have a tragedy in my family where the wife/mother of a POS county sheriff deputy was “found dead” after “committing suicide.” The gun was fired twice. Once into the mattress, the next into her chest. Official story put forward by the “investigation”? She took a “practice shot” before shooting herself in the chest. Sure. Who wouldn’t take a practice shot before committing suicide. The computer was found loaded with documentation of the abuse she was receiving from her little man. The family had no idea, although in retrospect, it all makes sense. Case closed- suicide.

I get 21 is young, but what do you think the minimum age should be for a cop? You’re an adult at 21, and that’s also the age to own a hand gun. A police department with all older officers is also problematic, given you’ll need to be physically restraining people; plus older people tend to be planing on retiring soon and not have as quick response times.
@LDiamondz
@LDiamondz Жыл бұрын
@@michaelperez9966 I see your point. Some younger cops, and some older cops is ideal. The young ones learn investigation techniques from the old ones, and the old ones don't have to chase the suspects. Can you imagine all the cops under 25? Or all the cops over 50? Either way it would be a circus! The cops in this case seem like a bunch of clowns.

It’s very suspicious that Matthew, a police officer, claimed to hear two shots in a house containing his two infant sons but didn’t go in to ensure their safety. Almost any parent would immediately try to get their children out. (The Uvalde parents desperately tried to, for example, but the useless cops stopped them.) The biggest piece of evidence in his favour is Jessica’s ‘phone being with her and not him when the message was sent. A cleverer person might have been able to make it look like that when it wasn’t, but I doubt he could. I wonder if Jessica was trying to frame him but didn’t want to say that he definitely did it in case she got caught out, but then she wouldn’t have sent the text message.

I disagree with you. I believe it's more likely that Matthew was responsible, because it's easier to believe that a cop with sufficient connections to escape serious investigation is guilty than that a woman preparing to walk a dog suddenly decided to attempt suicide, without even bothering to unhook the dog's leash first. That's totally implausible. I don't think texting his girlfriend is necessarily exculpatory, because it could just show that Matthew lacked empathy... and was perhaps consciously setting up an alibi, as was his going out to Waffle House after midnight with a buddy. If your reasoning is that you consider Matthew too incompetent to be behind this, please remember that Jessica survived so if it was attempted murder, he failed at his goal, so the incompetence defense cuts both ways. Not hatin', just sayin'.

Not to mention the police making sure to not investigate the scene properly, aiding him in this crime. They found no residue on her hands despite firing twice, and did not test his hands or clothing. He changed clothes too, and didn't check on the kids, which was his main concern supposedly. Also many men who kill their spouse Do in fact text and call their lovers, either during the cleanup or after. Look at Chris watts and Scott Peterson. Like you said it could simply prove lack of empathy. They didn't get her cellphone data, so we will never know where that text of hers was sent from. Then theres multiple neighbors heating a gunshot much earlier and seeing him rushing to the car. Grande attributes this to them hearing something else and THINKING it's a shot. Okay... Like what exactly? What else is loud enough to attract the attentions of all the neighbors? And the thing about her story not making sense is so dumb and insulting!! The woman yelled at me saying that other people had already called in to report it. Well, I am not psychic so I didn't know if anyone else had called in or not. It made me not want to report gunshots. Also some people don't bother to call because they don't care or they are criminals themselves. Some don't like the police. Some people can't tell the difference between gunshots and firecrackers. There are numerous reasons why people don't call the police to report gunshots.

It looks as if they married when she was 16 and pregnant. They had a Baptist background, and thought it was the right thing to do. I had five aunts in a remote rural area of the UK who did the same thing for the same reason in the 60s and 70s. One had a husband who kept herself and the kids short of food. The second had a husband who hammered part of her skull into her brain. The third lost a premature child within minutes of his birth when she was 16. Months later, she threw herself from a bridge in a suicide attempt.But one of her former teachers was rowing down the river, and pulled her out. The fourth would have cancelled the wedding, but her fiance threatened to kill himself. The emigrated to New Zealand where he picked her up by the throat, and dropped her. The fifth was so young when she became pregnant that her attendance at school was required. Her mother kept claiming she was ill, and spiteful relatives sent a policeman round. She married as soon as the law allowed it, and has been looking after children since she was one herself. Now in the wake of the honour killing of the Kurdish born Banaz Mahmod , who had been forced to marry at 17, child marriage will be banned in England and Wales from 27 February 2023, and we strongly hope Scotland and Northern Ireland will follow suit. Why don't more US states do the same? It is baffling to us in Europe that the US has some of the highest ages of consent in the world, and yet permits child marriage.

how is gunshot residue not mandatory?... if police departments are skipping over procedure then they should be fired, allows too much room for corruption

I have read and watch a lot about this case. This is one case where I disagree with Dr. Grande. The husband is a policeman who, after fearing he heard gunshots, lied about going in the apartment. He left his two young children in the apartment, despite remaining outside the apartment because of the supposed dangers of what was inside the apartment. He’s a police officer! The only reason the gym bag was found is because his ex-girlfriend was tired of his controlling and threatening behaviors. He found it funny that he was keeping Jessica’s belongings to spite her. He never was seriously considered for shooting Jessica, because he was the grandson of the sheriff. Jessica’s family was told that Jessica died, while she was being life-lighted to a hospital and was indeed alive. There are also issues with Jessica’s phone, which were not in initial police photos but miraculously appears next to the microwave. I could write a thesis on the number of problems with the case. Also, her memory loss is consistent with head trauma; she lost days of memories after the incident. How she was shot would have required her to be a contortionist and the location of the gun made no sense for a self-inflicted injury. Anyway, I typically agree with Dr. Grande, but this one I do not. He can’t get it correct every time. If you look more into the case, he did it. He texted himself from her phone and placed it at the scene. They never seriously investigated the case and never will. This is a small southern town with a lot of political issues affecting justice for the officer. The fact that he is still in law enforcement in any capacity after committing two felonies (at the very least) is disturbing. Watch the interrogation video about the gym bag - he lies through his teeth repeatedly. Best wishes, Dr. G! I still love your dry sense of humor and funny dislike of anything related to New Jersey.

Another factor that lends credence to the idea that she shot herself is the fact that the bullet grazed her skull, which happens more often when someone is in the act of shooting themself but then hesitates and doesn't completely go through with it and misfires/fires at a different angle. It also happens more often with women than men I believe.
@joziesundstrom7660

While that is actually true, there is no other real indication that she is the one that did this. For one, there was never an entrance wound..... It's very possible the guy just bludgeoned her instead of shooting her. Her hands were clean of gunshot residue.... despite supposedly shooting the gun twice? Like really? None? And unlike what good ol doc said, it's entirely possible for him to have taken a measly 2 seconds to send a very short message of "yeah didn't think of that, lol". That was a very very weak point because many men who do this text and call their lovers, either during the crime or the cleanup (like Chris watts and Scott Peterson) The gunshots by neighbors were heard 2 whole hours before he called, so yes he absolutely had enough time to stage the scene, without being a "genius" . He claims the whole reason he was driving back sooo frantically was worry for his children being with her.... But he went in, heard the baby crying, and just went back outside without the baby?? I mean what the fuck.... None of it makes sense. The part about this video that really pissed me off though, was him saying she should remember EVERYTHING. Uh no..... Brains injuries are a strange thing and people tend to only remember bits and pieces, and yes they do indeed have some come back later on. How in the hell did Dr grande not know about this? I believe he did this to her. He also lied about changing his clothes.. There would be no reason for him to change his clothing, and with his story/timeline there would be no time to have done it either

Wow. Seems pretty obvious to me, that Matthew tried to kill his wife. ........ Your top 3 reasons are 1. Matthew is not clever enough, to be capable of multitasking well enough to text his girlfriend while committing a murder. 2. The neighbors didn't report gunshots to the police until they were interviewed 3. The victim's memory is too convenient, even though it's backed up by police bodycam footage. .... Like, wow. Wtf, if you are not even going to try, why not just give the facts and skip the opinion?? They're in a bad marriage. A marriage she didn't want to be in so badly, she is unfaithful during the engagement, and tells him about it. But ends up in this marriage anyway, 'they decide to marry anyway", ya, he is domineering and narcissistic and can't handle her leaving him, so she capitulates to his whining and marries him. They have 2 children. Now he is cheating on her and she finds out. So, now she is leaving, and they are both preparing to have a battle for custody. And now, this mother of 2 babies decides to kill herself, out of the blue, not something she was ever dealing with? How much bullshit can y'all peddle?How common is it for a young mother of young children to kill herself? During a custody battle? It has to be close to zero! It's like, shame on them, but shame on doctor for lending support to such a miscarriage of justice. Given what I've already said, I'll continue, tell me this doesn't make more sense..... He is a an armed police officer with brass in the family. She says, in her own testimony, the only thing she remembers is she went in there to get shoes to walk the dog. That means she did not go in there to kill herself. That means she was not thinking about suicide at that time, why would she be?? Why has suicide ever come up except for her missing memory and that she was found alone, like any other murder victim. Except the murder weapon isn't usually found underneath the victim. Their are 2 bullet holes in 2 walls, meaning she would have to have shot herself twice. She was shot in the top of the head. So at this point it seems he got really lucky that he knocked out her memory because that is the only thing you guys can use at this point, is that she can't directly tell you he did it. A gunshot to the head, brain injured victim? 'Oh, well if you can't say he did it, you obviously did it to yourself, despite the evidence, and reason, and competent investigating.' ... Terrible. ... anyway.... so he comes to her door, banging, neighbors hear it, neighbors hear gunshots, neighbor sees Matthew leaving house, police footage shows dog with leash, victim says she was preparing to walk dog, she is shot in closet, Matthew makes a cover text from her phone, goes back on the road, tells his friend he just got a scary text, come meet me at the house. They get there, he is already there, outside. He tells them he heard shots, so he went in to get his radio, to call in the gunshots. and came back out..... This is fucking laughable, you absolutely should be ashamed of this one Dr. Grande, I think you owe her an apology. ...... He shouldn't be frantically checking on his wife? Holding her and crying and yelling why did you do this? Or even acting like that outside if that's what he thinks happened? With this soooo obvious situation developing, the cops don't do GSR tests, give me a flippin break????? He is caught lying about harassing her AFTER this incident by stealing her clothes, wtf?? Where is the evidence of the location her phone made that text from, where is the evidence of prints or DNA on her phone? They can prove he wasn't at the house at 12:54? Can they prove he didn't have her phone, and that she wasn't shot already at 12:54?? Where the fuk is justice? Don't marry a cop, you will have no rights. ... oh, and don;t get a mental health professional to help you when you get shot, and the shooter says you did it to yourself.... unbelievable Peace

My opinion. She remembers. She's afraid of him. There's footage of an interview with Matthew and the police sergeant and the police Sergeant clearly says if Matthew was honest and had turned in the gym bag, they could have made it go away or put a different spin on it, but now he has to come down on Matthew. When he said now he has to come down on Matthew, to me that implies he wasn't going to before. That police department has already been known to be crooked. She knows for a fact that she puts Matthew behind bars there will be retaliation from that police force. I was in the military for 20 years, I have mild TBI. In having TBI I've learned a lot about traumatic brain injury, and if she remembers going into the closet, then she remembers what happened.

I think he shot her at 11 from behind or when she was bending over to get her shoes to walk the dog. Then sent himself the text message later. Or scheduled a text message from her phone to be sent to his while he was gone. Idk if that type of thing can be traced. Her having a gunshot wound at a bizarre angle and shooting the gun twice are both too weird to be believable. She doesn’t remember what happened bc she didnt see it coming. Women very rarely take their own lives by gunshot.
