I really like the take down near the beginning & the use of the palm heel & elbows.

Sir, what do you think should be the ratio between the times (or the amounts) of solo working a technique onto the air, striking pads or throwing sandbags (if available for that spesific technique) and with-partner-training? And they say like you should work the technique on the air, like, at least, like 1000's of times before you go into other forms of training. Is that trve? Thanx, respect

Hello Mr Abernethy; may be is a dumb reference but all along these decades when some one put a black gi...well; is kind of too much ego and look like a "seller" of some "incredible stuff"; very very a USA thingy (no matter that there are some Japanese in that field)

In my dojo, students can wear white or black. The main reason we adopted it was after talking to female karateka who said white made them very uncomfortable during menstruation. They would therefore often skip training as a result. As a believer that karate should be equally accessible to all, we made the decision to allow black gis too. I know many other clubs who have made the same decision for the same reason. As the head of our group, I need to lead from the front, so I also started wearing black on occasion in order to make female members be more comfortable when wearing black (without it being obvious to all why they may have chosen to do so on some occasions). The added advantage is that any dirt picked up from the floor during groundwork isn’t as visible. It’s therefore not an ego thing, but a pragmatism thing as well as wanting all members to feel comfortable training all the time. I hope that more will start to see black as an equality valid clothing option. It is also worth remembering that the gi itself if a relatively recent addition to karate (basically copied from Judo) and, therefore, isn’t as traditional as many state. I hope that helps clarify. All the best, Iain
