Reminds me of the massive module slide they did up in Rosyth when thousands of tons were slid together millimetre perfect in that dry dock. Engineering today is just so impressive. Well done the lads and lasses at BAE.

you just cannot get an idea how massive modern warships are today unless you see them like this, out of water and with people walking around while thousands of tons are moved around on tires.

Not as they crash the two part together at speed. It may leak, yet it's stuck fast! They'll weld the beejesus out of it. It's biggest threats will be defence cuts I bet; nothing beats them to keep ships in dock.

What you can't see is the Internal Framing that will be fitted and welded behind the Hull plating.

I can remember years ago being warned about the dangers of cut and shut cars ,so doing essentially the same with ships seems fraught with danger .

Ships are built like this all the time now. Usually from the ground up but it's essentially just connecting larger pieces together. Look at how the US and our Aircraft carriers were made.
