Hey I have a question please Soo I'm tryin to make smthing like an aquarium with a bottle I have some algae growin in a bucket outside I grabbed some sand and some of that algae and putted some water so if I put a fish there will it survive? I mean will the algae provide enough oxygen for it or I gotta buy some water plants?
@4me
@4me 4 жыл бұрын
MAZE oxygen getd in water mostly through water to air surface exchange in aquariums. So, as long as your aquarium has access to air the fish will survive at normal room temperature. Algae and aquatic plants provide some oxygen too. Also, they provide food, water filtration, and plants serve as resting places for fish. Aquariums need plants. You may get aquatic plants from local ponds, lakes, rivers and friends (just ask).

Idk plz someone help me. ;)
@4me

Whatever small amount of moss you my find will work to begin with. If this moss grows underwater (not all mosses do!) than you will have more of it as time goes. So, take the sample of what you found and place it in a nursery. Just choose which way you want to prepare it first: wash it and then put underwater or do not wash it and then put it under cover and spray it with water every other day or so until it grow long enough to trim it.

Hello, I’ve seen your videos and I’d like to say that you’re very helpful for providing lots of information on these stuffs, especially the video about the golden pothos, etc. Thank you for sharing your research and knowledge...I just bought an aquarium and I’ve been hearing that you shouldn’t add any fish until after 2 weeks? Can I ask why? Sorry for this question, I’m just starting but thank you anyways!
@4me
@4me 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It takes a couple weeks or so for bacteria and microorganisms and plants in a new aquarium to establish healthy balance. Adding large creatures too early makes it harder for those creatures - there is not enough bacteria to handle the large amount of waste produced by large creatures and etc. Most microorganisms have short lifespan. So, in two weeks time many generations of those tiny critters born and die going in cycles constantly improving the aquarium. The healthy ecosystem of any (even well established) aquarium is not permanent. It's ever evolving. So, in emergency situations you may have no choice but to put fish in a new aquarium regardless whether it is ready or not. And it would be alright. I have a couple spare nurseries ready set months in advance ;) All the best on your adventure!

@@kennethhongnguyen6701 I do not put aquariums with fish in direct sunlight. But, you can grow moss underwater in a nursery exposed to direct sunlight. Can I put moss in my lotus tub which has mud? And will I need any air pump if I want to keep guppy fish in lotus pond or will water lily, lotus and algae provide enough oxygen?
@4me
@4me 4 жыл бұрын
I think the moss will do fine in your lotus tub - just grow first the moss for a couple weeks in a separate jar to make sure it grows ;) Air pumps are optional in any aquarium - oxygen mostly gets in the water through water to air surface exchange. So, your fish in the pond should do just fine without air pump ;)

I have a 5 litre aquarium with 1 betta fish, mosses and one money plant with root dip in ( no filter, air pump any machines) so i want to know at what interval of days should I change my water and how much and how? (Because sometimes it's poops accumulate so much and when I see ur videos I see that some of your aquarium ,u didnt change their water more than year)
@4me
@4me 5 жыл бұрын
The more important question seems to me is not how often to change water, but how much and how often to feed fish. Almost every problem in aquariums arise from overfeeding. I stopped changing water in all my aquariums since end of 2016. Though, I did change water before that on different schedule and different amounts...You can see how I did in my aquarium fish care routines: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZPHnplsa72IibM The bottom line is - it works either way you choose to do with or without water changes, with or without man-made filters. Either way you have to be mindful about what you do. The accumulated poop on the bottom of the tank may not look nice, but over years of time it turns into fertile substrate - soil reach with bacteria and microorganism ;) All the best on your adventure!

@@4me thank you so much for ur reply, so can i left the accumulated dirt at bottom and will change water only 25% from top in few weeks is that ok? And i also want to know that do floating plants like water lettuce increase dissolved O2 in water?
@4me
@4me 5 жыл бұрын
@@saur_gasm The main purpose of changing the water is to remove waste - not to let it accumulate. So, if you changing water than it's better to remove dirt from the bottom ;) O2 and CO2 from floating plants gets released mostly into atmosphere.

You 10000% need an aquarium heater. Bettas are tropical fish and need a minimum of five gal tank. Plus the bigger the tank the easier it is to maintain better and healthy water to prevent root rot, ich, and other betta diseases that are easy to develop.

@@sabankhadka7849 The short answer is Yes. But it needs to be clarified. There is no such things as without filter :) Plants, algae, bacteria and such are natural filters. Natural filters are the most efficient in this regards and they are fundamental. They take nutrition (waste) from water and fish eat them. Man-made filters cannot do both ;) and the used (dirty) filters end up back in the nature to be taking care by again algae and bacteria :) Aquariums are limited in the space and amount of critters and plants that can be cultured there. It takes time to learn how to keep it in ballance. Each aquarium is unique! Some of my aquariums fail. @4me
@4me 5 жыл бұрын
Congrats!!! Newborn can do very well without an air pump providing you have live plants in your aquarium. I used to move fry from adult guppies for breeding purpose. Adult guppies would eat only slow moving - sick fry. In the past year or so I keep them all together. No problem. However you have different types of fish in one aquarium. Molly may eat guppy fry. And there is another issue to tackle - fin disease. Normally I would move the healthy fish out into different aquarium/nursery to prevent contamination. The same goes with fry. I would set up a new aquarium urgently for the fry if you don't have it yet. Move them. Better be safe than sorry ;) PS: reduce feeding - too much fish food cause water getting dirty and harmful bacteria build up.

But, Uncle, in what size aquarium will the fries survive? In 5-6 cm jar, with moss downside, 2 live grass and a plant (I don't know it's name, but leaves in heart triangular shape and red-pink colour in between). I thought I have not to transfer them. But I'll. Should I feed micro worms to them? But will it turn into a big worm or any bacteria? Thanks for guidance!!💗💞💓👏👏😝😋😍💃😘🙇

@@ShalkiZS The narrowest side of any aquarium should be at least 3 times size of the fish. @4me
@4me 4 жыл бұрын
The moss on the top grows in high humidity without getting much of any dirt tangled in it as it would exposed to open outdoor environment. As the moss gets longer you may trim it and place into aquarium (underwater) without need to wash it. Which is important - any organic dirt in the moss may cause spoiling when it placed underwater. And there is another point - it looks nice on the top of the aquarium and can be served as housing for terrestrial creatures as shown in some of my previous videos. Hey! I love that you think outside the box. I've watched all your videos and think you're brilliant. I finally got around to making videos of my own, because I wanna show the rules can be bent too! My first fish video shows how my betta lives successfully with comet goldfish bigger than him, and a shubunkin 20 times his size! I have 4 jar ecosystems right now inspired by you! They have mosquito fish, pond snails, and ghost shrimp. I'd be honored if you'd watch my betta and goldfish video I uploaded yesterday! Love you!

Not all land mosses grow underwater. And even some samples of mosses that I've been growing previously may die. Discoloration is one of the signs. The bad small is the most noticeable sign for sure in this regards. As I mentioned in previous comment- I have a playlist of videos with useful details to check. This video shows the dead moss and how I do about spoiled samples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoi6eJmrpN-Ai80

There are many factors at a play when it comes to keeping/ breeding any creatures. Using man-made equipment that by default is designed to copy the Nature is more difficult than allowing the Nature to do the work. So...I would suggest you to start with some simple setup with aquatic snails and such just to see and learn from Nature. I have many examples on this playlist to get ideas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGLTin2eqNGIo6M And you are in middle of the best season to try it ;) All the best on your adventure!

those are not "aquariums". hope you've stopped keeping fish in jars. those jars are way too small to keep any fish even guppies, small shrimp like you have are okay though

Thank you for your concerns. And I truly hope your fish lives long and very happy live in the enormous size aquarium you built for that fish when it was a baby. And as your fish grow bigger as it lives longer you may realize that the enormous size aquarium is not that spacious anymore... and you need to build a larger aquarium...but how much larger? And then you may come back to my videos and check how to calculate the minimum size of that aquarium based on the fish size. And you welcome.

@@4me who said I built an enormous aquarium? Im just saying these jars you put your fish in are too small. Guppies come from rivers in South America they don’t belong in jars. I never said they need to be in 400 liters. Don’t act like an idiot
@4me
@4me 2 жыл бұрын
@@reilley7734 I am sure you did not build a small aquarium to speak of your experience for that matter. The origin of guppies makes no difference for fish bred and grown in aquariums for more than a half century. Speaking of jars you again missing the point of fish size in the references to the tank dimensions. As for the rest...you just been rude - I don't have any desire to continue any conversation with you. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Most land mosses that I grow underwater do not look like Java moss at all. They don't branch the way java moss does and they do grow in long strings toward water surface - never spread as carpet the way java moss attaching itself to gravel.
