Because we embrace every culture, living together in peaceful. Mixed of cultures is charming of Thailand which reflected in foods, language, religions, festival, etc..

You are very fortunate to have a local guide lead you through these tribal villages. And actually as the guide said, there is one place in Chiang Mai that is set up as a village of various tribes in Thailand as a learning center and a tourist attraction for both Thais and foreigners to visit. But it's not the real home of those tribes. Reaching their real homes is quite difficult with difficult and remote mountain roads. And those tribes were mostly isolated in the mountain forests. Some tribes are along the border too. Therefore, they have to rely on local people who have been in contact with those tribes or charity organizations to bring them in only.

In Buddhism, the Buddha taught us not to get attached to things and to live in the middle way. Not too much or too little. which ordinary people can do without having to be a monk In ancient times, to be ordained as a monk, one had to understand the dharma first before being ordained. Because ordination is not a ritual but a tool to reach nirvana. The Buddha taught that the happiness of each person was different and could not be measured by numbers or measures as a success formula. Some people need millions of dollars in money and assets to be happy. Some people have to go and occupy other countries in order to obtain foreign resource riches for their own country. Some people want to win the war to expand their own territory to make them happy. Some people are happy just having their own home on their homeland.

Tai-Kadai tribes include many groups in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar (Shan - Tai Yai), southern China, northern Vietnam, and India/Assam… all share common heritage, linguistic, cultural roots. But besides majority Thai in Thailand, lots of non-Tai peoples have been welcomed in Thailand to live and work peacefully… southern aboriginals, northern non-Tai tribes, and neighboring peoples. Status may be Thai citizens of any ethnicity, non-citizens such as refugees, and migrant workers. Peace to all. 🙏🏻

This is about history about "กะเหรี่ยง คอยาว" they wear the neck ring since Ayuthaya kingdom era. this culture neck ring they wear to remind them about they land that took by Myanma kingdom they said they will remove the ring when they get they land back. but this is ancient story I heard from mini documentary.
