The ability to have all your pedals, amp, and IR's outside of your interface means lower load on the computer as well. Anyone who's run a plugin/effect heavy mix in the box will know how quickly you can eat up processing power, great overview.

Looks really professional, no frills serious gear. That you can change the settings around the pre and power sections of your chosen amp makes it really interesting, versatile even. Though some of the tones sound really processed it is something we can let slide. It is, after all, not a real tube amp. I can imagine myself using it in my church as a worship guitatist.

I have just bought one of these. I (try to) use it with a Marshall Super Lead from 1980 with two tubes pulled - so around 60 watt RMS. The chain is guitar->effect board->amp->amp speaker out->cab m in-> cab m out (-24db)->Weber mass 100->Weber mass out->Speaker. In this setup the rig is useless. With the CAB M unit in the chain there is a very high pitched feedback - electromagnetic screaming of some sort - tonegenerator sounds. I can get rid of the feedback if I move two to three meters away from the unit - or pulling the unit out of the chain. If I use line-out from the Weber 100 into the CAB M it also works - but that was not the idea when I bought this. All my stuff is grounded so that should not be the problem. The Two-Notes support has been very helpful and tried to solve this for me. The sound of the unit is very good when you, if possible, can work your way around all the weirdness. But I do think that Two-Notes fails in telling the user that this device has severe grounding and shielding issues. If you - as I do - play different places, one can only imagine the problems you will get at different venues with different power conditions not to mention studios.

You definitely shouldn't plug a speaker out into this - since there's no load element in it, you'll just end up frying the Cab M, which is probably what you're hearing. It's meant to be used after either a preamp signal (from an effects loop send) or a non-powered signal, such as the line out from your Weber Mass.

@@josh_makes_noise Sorry but you are wrong. I know that it's not a loadbox - If you look at the path in my post you will see that there is a speaker after the loadbox I use. The manual states that you can do this. Speaker out -> cab m -> load box and/or speaker. Read it in the manual.

How do you think this compares to the Mooer Radar? Obviously it has a larger feature set, but as far as the cab and power amp emulation and 3rd party IRs is something I'm curious about. The smaller footprint and the cost difference in the Mooer is attractive to me.

Hey Bea, nice review as usual. One question unanswered, though: a small "budget" set-up for home recording could be a preamp pedal with this little beast to do the rest and then straight into the audio interface. But where these things struggle (and where amp+OX/Torpedo live/studio shine) is on clean tones. How does it sound with the clean channel of a valve preamp pedal?

Hi Bea, could you use the speaker out to a actual cab to be used as a monitor, without using an actual amp? Since it has power amps built in, I was thinking of putting my Friedman BE OD Deluxe pedal into the CAB M, then send the emulation to FOH and the speaker out to my cab for a monitor?

I don't think so, that line out it's something like a bypass out, this isn't a power amp... The power amp sim is there to sim the saturation produced by a power alp but it doesn't act as a power amp

Dont waste your time with software amps. Latency sucks to the daw. Just use either hx stomp or hotone ampero or hotone binary amp.

Neural DSP makes the best plugins IMO. You can trial any one of them for 14 days without making a serious commitment. If you’re on windows, the latency is worse because windows doesn’t have a native low latency driver; it uses a translated driver that requires some minor technical know-how to work with. If you’re on a Mac, the built-in Cirrus Logic driver is low latency without doing anything extra. I’ve been using modeling in software for 14 years and I still love using it. It’s come a long way and I think modeling will definitely take over amps as tubes die out. The only way that outcome is going to get better is to allow incandescent bulb manufacturing being allowed in the US again.

It depends. With one cabsim pedal, you need to make a decision: clean stereo FX (cabsim -> FX -> interface) or mono FX with cabsim applied (FX -> cabsim -> interface). It really depends on the sound you want to go for. I'd personally do reverb/delay after cabsim for greater flexibility; modulation could go either way. (Unless it's something like a wah, of course.)

CompuCat hay cheers. I currently have all drive pedals going in to a AMT preamp pedal -> cabsim -> Mobius stereo -> stereo delay -> reverb stereo. It sounds fine to be honest. I was wondering if there are better ways to use a cabsim in similar chains. Cheers

Run fx from an fx send on a mixer. Return stereo fx back to fx returns or stereo channel. Just wish they would combine this with a micro mixer and this into one box with a stereo out to record to your DAW directly in stereo. I was looking at the Freyette Power load which almost does what I am talking about, but it separates dry only and non-speaker sim out. You only monitor your fx.

Because it's not a load box - an amp needs an electrical load, or it'll burn out. I got excited about this as well. I thought i could say goodbye to my cab, but hearing it's not a load box devastated me.

They serve two different purposes so tough to compare. You can get away with just the captor if you're running into a DAW and using the free wall of sound plugin. The plugin does everything the CABM does and more. If you don't run into a DAW at all times, may want to consider getting both. I love them, amazing products!

I'm thinking of getting both, that way I can use my amp head as well. Run my amp through the M, then use the captor just as a dummy load. Maybe I can just get a cheaper duumy load?

I ended up with the Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8. I downloaded the WOS, IRs. I haven't used them yet. The analog speaker simulator works great. I used a Hughes and Kettner Red Box for the other side if the stereo image. Got some great recordings. Plan on doing a video of my setup.

There should not be any tonal difference with the ohms. It is just a choice to work with your amp. Some amps can't adjust the ohms. I just picked 8 for using the single cab output. It can pass thru to a speaker cab. One thing I have not thought about is, when you connect a speaker it will be as if you are connecting in series so, it would add resistance. So adding a 8 ohm speaker will add 8 more ohms to the 8 ohm load total would be 16 Ohms.

Don't buy one I wasted over $500 on this thing it never left my house and I turned it on one evening and the screen instantly went dark and it never worked again. On top of the thing cooking itself while never leaving the safety of my home the company thinks they're entitled to your personal info home address email address phone number and demand it for MANDATORY updates and firmware when you try to copy impulses to it. That's like requiring a new computer chip for your car when you try to put gas in it in my eyes. Stay away from two crooks they sell garbage.
