Yes. Also: You don't need to forgive someone else for your own mental health. Why would the cheater deserve forgiveness?Anger is good and healthy. Sadness is normal. Feel your feelings and process them (in a way that's safe and legal). Scream, run, punch a pillow, talk to someone, write it down, paint it, even destroy something (trash, cardboard boxes or something). Just please leave the instruments alone. The violin didn't do anything wrong!
@sakarasomapa3 жыл бұрын
@@jasmint3207 Anger and sadness are not bad as long as you don’t act on it. But as soon as you process and do something because of it then bad things does happen in proportion to what you did. Even if it’s something that’s not bothering other people like punching the wall you’ll still ended up hurting your hand. Even if it’s something not physical like thinking about the event that cause it would still make you uncomfortable. This is because the next thing after getting angry/sad is that you’ll want something that you don’t currently have (or don’t want something that you already have) and that is why being angry/sad is so uncomfortable. A better way to deal with it is to ignore it. Let the anger/sadness be just that and don’t pick it up and turn it into something worse. There’d be a huge difference in the happiness in their life between someone who thinks “oh well, that happens” when they cut their finger and someone who thinks back on their decisions for an entire day.
@bmp66353 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Also, if a woman doesn't understand the role of the instrument to the musician, she needs to walk on by. Mingle with someone who can entertain herself with her hobbies. Piano, reading, crochet, then my relationship. I would make no secret of where another person fits, or that I am somewhat of an introvert who constantly has classical music playing in the background. Yeah, not admirable, but suits me great at age 73.
@emilyporter11863 жыл бұрын
@@sakarasomapa sometimes you need to act on anger and sadness to process it. Not expressing those emotions can also have negative repercussions, so it's all about moderation and developing healthy ways to express and process anger and sadness.

Depends on the ultimatum. If you're using an ultimatum to manipulate someone, that's bad. If you're stating a boundary because you really can't continue a relationship with someone if they can't meet this need, that's different. For example, someone who has to move a lot for their job should break up with someone who can't move with them. Likewise, someone who needs to stay in one place due to family obligations or really loving where they live should break up with someone who refuses to quit their job that makes them move around a lot. (Unless they want a permanent long distance relationship, which some people do.) It's not a matter of right or wrong, it's a matter of being right for each other. Clearly in the case of the violinist who can't keep the anniversary dinner, those two should break up.

"Befriend the pianist." Best advice ever. I can tell you right now, that I turned down many requests to accompany instrumentalists in college, because I was like, "Oh yeah, NOW you need me at the piano. NOW you changing your tune, eh? I Don't Think So!!" Seriously, treat us pianists with courtesy and kindness, and we will practice a million hours to learn your accompaniment music and give you the best support we can. But treat us just once with rudeness or selfishness, and you gonna be playing a solo for the rest of your life. #pianogang

Well, that is indeed very drastic. Not very kind either. You also could choose to be the better person. You're making it sound like you're some kind of a god. In my job I am also in a position where I am literally needed for other people to get their stuff done. But I'm still kind to them, even if they have had a bad tune with me. I am an adult and I am able to talk with people so I would suggest you trying that out too. You can go: "Well after you did this or that to me last time I am not really fond of playing the piano for you, to be quite honest. But I'll still do it, 'cause you might just have been stressed or something. We can try to get to know each other and see, if it works out. Is that a deal?" ... Greets from Germany

Obviously cheaters are assholes, but smashing a $10,000 ANYTHING is the most childish, asshole-ish thing one can do. Like, all the guy did was cheat (and it's bad yes, but cheating is free). She clearly wasn't poorly affected by it if she had the time to plot and execute a revenge (which is so immature btw). For her to smash a $10,000 instrument is beyond unforgivable. Not only is it a waste of an instrument (as Twoset said), but it's also a HUGE waste of money, AND she can be taken to court for doing such a thing. $10,000 isn't fucking cheap. Also, maybe the cheater (who, again, is an asshole, but not more or less than the gf) doesn't have a lot of money, and is very passionate about music, but is also kind of stupid and immature which led to him cheating. Maybe the gf was abusive and he was cheating (still wrong) as an outlet; and given her violin-smashing outburst, I wouldn't doubt it. All in all, if the girlfriend hadn't done anything wrong, the cheater would be the asshole 100%. Cheating is inexcusable. But the fact that her way to retaliate was to smash his $10,000 violin makes her the asshole in more ways than one.

My fav: “The A - hole is a society that doesn’t support the teaching of music to young kids.” Exactly. We live in Georgia, in the US. We had our boys choose an instrument & take band as an elective in 6th grade. If they didn’t enjoy it, or seem suited to it, they could stop at the end of the school year. As we expected, they loved it and played in the middle school band, then in the high school concert band, wind symphony, & marching band. They had music instruction every school day from 6th -12th grades. Seven years! I realize kids in many places don’t get this privilege & I’m very grateful our State’s school system values music instruction.

Countless kids have been turned off of playing music because of this, which could be avoided if the arts were supported adequately.

I have band as an everyday elective too. Unfortunately we aren’t very funded and we don’t have many people, but our director is incredible and he only started recently (2019) and when he did there was nobody signed up for band. Anyways, he started it back up and it was getting to a good point before covid. Things went way downhill but we’re slowly getting better and I have hope that one day the band program will be much like the one you described!

Personal experience. My cello teacher asked one of the voice teachers at my college if they could swap practice rooms because the one he had was bigger (needed for 2 cellists in one room). He agreed happily. This was his usual room (though he hadn't actually booked it for that day), so it was pretty gracious of him. Granted, the voice professor should have actually booked the room and my teacher should have done the same, but even still, there was a kind understanding between colleagues of the specific needs of certain instruments.

The doctor says a wife is better--more commitment in the relationship means less stress which is good for health. The lawyer says a girlfriend is better... Divorces are legal hell and it's better to not risk it by getting married. The musician says it's better to have a wife and a girlfriend... That way when your wife thinks you're with your girlfriend, and your girlfriend assumes you're with your wife--then you can practice!

I feel like in some of these situations, both sides are in the wrong. Brett didn't practice and that's wrong, but so is a director making someone cry (especially if the director ripped into him). It's wrong of Eddy to constantly be late, but it's also wrong for the quartet to lie. And in some of the scenarios, there's no wrong party. The one with the two people where one signs the other up without talking to each other, if they're that good of friends, brett knows eddys weekend schedule. If he signed eddy up specifically because he knew eddy would regret not going and has nothing better to do, that's fine. And the reason why it's fine is because sometimes you need that friend that pushes you to be your best self. It isn't wrong for eddy to be upset with brett because of the lack of communication, but if they're that good of friends, eddy will eventually realize that brett is helping eddy do what will end up being best for him. And anyways, just because you sign up doesn't mean you automatically have to show up. You can always cancel at least 24hrs before the master class.
@yumnamuchine47953 жыл бұрын
the thing is its mentioned that eddy has performance anxiety. maybe Brett doesn't know how bad it is and forcing someone that is uncomfortable to do something like that is not okay. Brett could have pushed eddy to do the masterclass just by talking to eddy and trying to get him through the performance anxiety, not just throwing him in the deep end without preparation. obviously Brett's intentions were good, but that doesn't mean it was right.
