I always wanted to play blades but was told I’m not good enough (15 handicap). Finally decided to try some used Titleist 690 mb’s and my first round with them I beat my personal best by 5 strokes and had zero double bogies. Never let anyone tell you what you “should” be playing: As Matt said, if you hit them well and you like how they look/feel, they’re meant for you

I used blades for over 40 years up until 2018 when age (in my 60s) and injury (back/hip) forced a switch so I could keep some of the distance (now TM P770s with Recoil 780 F4). I love blades for their work-ability and my last set of MIzuno MPs were buttery soft.

I play the 620 MB and I absolutely love them. I tried out the MP20, MB-101, Blueprint, Apex, and P7TW (this was back in May) and I gotta say, they were all great but the 620 MB and MP20 really separated themselves from the pack for me. I really found that the most important thing was shaft (surprisingly to me, Modus 105X). It was my first time having a formal fitting, and I was shocked. I'd been playing S300 and X100's my whole life. Once I had the right shaft in these bad boys (MP20 and 620 MB), it was like heaven on earth. Seriously, go get properly fitted y'all! I went with the Titleist because I play TP-5's which make them feel soft enough (like you said) while still feeling solid and crisp, but the MP20 got a little mushy for me with the softer ball. They had negligible difference in numbers on the Trackman. Also, I found the polished finish of the MP20 a bit distracting. Not gonna lie, I was surprised, because I've always been a Mizzy fan-boy, but these 620 MBs are gonna be in my bag for a long time. Get properly fitted y'all. I can't emphasize that enough, regardless of the size of the cavity on your irons. I always thought I was playing the correct equipment, but the second I had a shaft that has a weight and flex points that complement my swing, I realized that I had never actually felt what an effortless, natural swing feels like. It made golf that much more fun! Alright my rambling is done. Love your channel, I'm a numbers nerd and have watched pretty much every video. I get so excited whenever y'all release a new one. Keep em coming!

I'm a modus 105 X man myself. I find total weight is the most important thing in an iron. Not overly difficult to load either.

Craig Berry so easy to swing easy and natural but can get after one if I need to with em. Agreed, total weight is most important, but I think how it loads is around as important. I love how these shafts load up

@@georgekyriazi its difficult for me because I play longer length so for example when I put AMT S300 in depending on the manufacturers head weight the club can feel silly heavy. Modus at 112g is nice, the PXI are similar weight and nice. Curious what SS are u with a 7 or 6 iron?
@ericpatterson906

I'm with you George. I got a fitting, and the 620 MB stood out to me as well. The MP-20s are a close 2nd, but I felt even on slight miss hits I wasn't losing much yardage. Plus I like the leading edge.

I have been playing the (two generations back) Mizuno MP4s with a Nippon 1150 GH shaft in Regular flex for about 4 seasons now...that's like 340 rounds. I just adore the way that shaft loads up. In a recent fitting I found the Modus 120 (actually in Stiff flex) with the MP20s were the match for me. I really need to get in and getta TXG iron fitting, as the groves on my existing set are pretty much gonzo and I would like to suss out my options for the optimal shaft.

Katsuhiro Miura says the sweet spot on Miura irons is toward the heel. The machine might not have misread the strike on the first shot with the 901s. It was heel side and sounded perfect.

I’ve never felt so much draw toward a set of blades like the titleist 620 mb. I own a set of Miura mb 101s and they are incredible. To own miuras and still be envious of the 620 is a huge compliment to titleist for making such a good looking club! Great video Matt and Ian. Would love to see Matt play a round with those 620 MBs. I know he hit them super well when out in California when they were released.

Question for txg, with how much testing you guys do is there any thought to creating a data base of data? I think having a database or spreadsheet of things like strike point, spin, efficiency , etc would be useful from an equipment analytic point of view. I don't know how easy GC quads exports the data but I guess it can be done by hand into an excel sheet? I can't think of anyone who does analytics on equipment and publishes it, I presume the manufacturers have the data but they won't ever publish it. S3 does it for shafts which is really useful to get past the marketing. For example here it would be interesting to correlate strike location, efficiency , and spin. Kind of an indirect measurement of cg locations and forgiveness.

I just recently got Mizuno MP 20 SEL. Man, the good hit feels really good but the bad hits vibrating my hands like crazy. It's almost like a punishment if I don't hit it correctly lol. I upgraded from my Taylormade M2 which was also really good. I just need something more workable and begin to control ball flights the way I want it. Mizuno definitely looks stunning in the bag. I guess I need more time to master this bad boy.

dubnessIII there’s a lot more to golf than score.. tour players livelihood depends on their score so they want forgiveness, I personally don’t really care if I’d save 3-4 strokes from using cavity’s, the craftsmanship and feel of a good shot with a blade is where I derive my enjoyment in golf and a pured blade feeling never gets old
@94jettameowpsst
@94jettameowpsst 4 жыл бұрын
dubnessIII you’re missing the point regarding not being on tour.. secondly, get good at hitting them and then switch to a cb and see how much better you hit the ball, consistently I guess is the better word. I game a 3i that’s a cb, it has zero feel aside from a slight trampoline effect when struck well.

I was fitted into the 620MB 4-PW irons in the spring. I've hit all of these (except the T MB7s) and felt similar results. The MB-20s are really good irons and they feel a bit softer that the 620s, but the slight firmness of the Titleist make them feel like they have a bit more punching power. Miura hit well to but I didn't like the look. Srixon Z Forged felt good as well, but a little chunky. Another big note is the grinding on the leading edge feels really good on the Titleist 620MB's. They really melt through the turf.

The strike was a bit higher, could possibly be the reason its going further if the CG is just a bit lower than with the other club. Similar to when you tee up an iron and get the CG slightly below the ball and you get that lower spin higher launching shot.

Titliest 620 performed better than I expected. But yes they're forgings are fairly harsh feeling compared to others. I was also surprised to see the mizuno ballspeed even lower than the TM. In my experience TM blades are almost always a tad bit shorter than other blades for some reason. The 35 degree loft is part of it but so is titliest

I'm looking to go at pins with irons, and by far, missing short is safer than going long, which is what you get with blades, if you hit it well, you will hit your number, poor, it will be short. Some clubs that are more forgiving, if it hit it too well, I may fly the green, which can be very bad, both for my score and mentality - score, can easily add +2 to strokes, mentality, I don't want to have it in my mind, that if I make a good swing & contact, it could actually hurt my score and I may lose a ball, I've done this before.

I played the Z945 still a fantastic iron thats soft like butter. Now playing the mizuno pro 120 Japan edition. And like Ian side ball should melt in the iron, for that hands down Mizuno in my book is the hot knife.

I went mp20 pw to 7 and 6,5 in hmb but the biggest benefit is there is no uplift in shaft cost. I really liked the Recoil shaft and I found these clubs very forgiving compared to the TP18s I played with 25 yrs ago and that now sit in my garage. They come out occasionally to scare off the youngsters ... a 3 iron butter knife gives a bit of perspective. But Mizuno probably have got this market covered for value as well on the shaft policy.. if you did a cost analysis, it might highlight some big differences.

Just wondering if you have done a video on fitting club lofts to optimize carry distance. As you know there are clubs that have 6 degrees of loft between clubs which is not good for a golfer with higher swing speeds and just the opposite for a slower swing speed. I've had a number of people coming to me that have gotten clubs off the rack without any fitting. Because you are a fitting guru this maybe a good topic to do a video on.

it would be interesting to add the direct to consumer blades to this comparison. like Matt said, just get what you like and hit the best, regardless of reason.

Are the Wilson Staff Model blades more forgiving for a blade as I have read? I saw a RH set and the blade looked a bit larger vs TM PMB. No where to demo a LH club. Beautiful iron.

i'm not sure how common knowledge this is, but the makers of muira actually put the sweet spot more towards the heel than any other brand, which is why they might have turned and had lower spin on most of the shots. what felt like a middled strike is actually slightly toe in terms of what the club is designed to do.

could you guys do a review of the Caley golf clubs? Very affordable but not sure of the quality.

I wonder if matching up the ball is ever more critical when using blades?

Interesting that Jack & Tiger prefer longer blades (both Miura ex-players and Jack's new set with them), and that is the type of Blade they now produce as their spec. I was a Taylormade C300 Cavity Player (the Lehman Miura clubs) and also like the longer blade - just far less intimidating. I also like the built-in 3-yard draw - as it is easy to play a hold off fade when you want it. Miura's are my easy pick - I actually tried to get their Nicklaus release and missed out.

Miura all day long. I have mp20s and like them but Miura look 😍. Don’t know if it’s price that makes me think they look amazing. Wonder if I d still think they looked great at $150 a club

How's it My hybrid is 22° and 80g and XFLEX. My 3wood is 15° and 60g and regular. I hit my hybrid 260 of the tee but my 3wood only goes 250 but if I hit one solid it goes 270. Could the shaft be the difference.

How do you fit for 3 blades in a combo set when you only have a 6i? Very interested in that process and how you get to the right club and specs.
