"I hate it when people pick a putter for its looks" 5 minutes later... "Do they make left handed putters? I like the look of that!" Love your work guys!
@Knickerson5 жыл бұрын
It’s a conundrum, for sure. Speaking as a left hander, it’s a rarity to test every putter in the shop, since often only the most popular putters are LH. Sometimes there’s a touch of envy whenever I see a RHer trying out the putter I might want. But it’s all good. Lack of options means loving the clubs you were able to find.

I know this video is older, but I've recently dropped my 3W to go to a 5 wedge system myself (PW, AW, 54, 58, 62). I was finding I don't ever use the 3W; if I'm going for distance, I'll hit driver. If I'm going for accuracy, I'll hit 5W. And off the deck the 5W ended up going further because the extra loft actually helped me hit it properly into the air. Dropping the 3W has allowed me to add in a low bounce 62 wedge as a utility/flop shot club for those dry, tight lies and those hard bunkers I often find around the greens on the local munis that I play. It's all about choosing the best 14 clubs that will help save strokes over the course of a round/season. Defending against those bladed shots from tight lies around the green are better for my scorecard than trying to go for greens from 240+ with a 3W that I have no confidence with.

I've considered so many times on taking my 4i out of the bag. I rarely play par 3's over 200 yards, and when I have a long par 5, I'm usually in 3 wood range, sometimes 5 wood range. Almost all par 4's even "long" ones, I usually never have more than 190 in unless I Really duff my tee ball. I'd probably get more use out of a 62* long term than I would the 4i. Pretty interesting.
@uwrossl5 жыл бұрын
Same. The only thing that keeps the 4 iron in the bag for me is that I can't hit the low stinger with my hybrid. Other then that I can do everything else with my hybrid. Can jump on it and hit it around 215 for 3 iron distance or can smooth a high soft fade with it around 195 which replaces the 4 iron. Probably going to add another wedge and then just keep the 4 iron in the bag on days I'm playing in heavy wind. Other then that the 4 iron is useless for me because I can stop my hybrid on the green better than a 4 iron.
@zacharymilos3925 жыл бұрын
@@uwrossl I mean't *never* have more than 190 on long par 4's, but yeah I hear ya. For me it's just more than my 4i which is about 210 yard club... is a rarely distance to have for the 6100-6400 yard courses I play. Even when I play 6800, it seems to stay in the bag still. I'd rather have a 62* for my firm sand so I can get the ball to stop out of the bunker and not roll forever...

This is probably the very first time where I disagree with Ian, but liking the look of it is a very important factor in my personal opinion. Put it this way, a beautiful car does 0-60 in 3.3 second versus an ugly car that smashes it in 2.9. I’m taking the first every single time, the smile factor from admire looking at it out-weight the small advantage, ha.
@ianfrasergolf5 жыл бұрын
Jeff Lin not the same thing. If the ugly putter averages 30putts and the pretty putter averages 32 putts which one are you putting with???

Ian Fraser I got a reply from Ian! you made my day mate. Don’t take this the wrong way, its not that I don’t believe in advanced technology, I myself am looking to have a stability shaft and p2 grip fitted on my next to do list. Having watched the video I believe txg forward grip works on the same principle to p2 grip? I’d rather have txg logo than the white stripes and P2 logo, LOL See, looks matters. Carry on the subject, not all of us mortals are like you sir and Matt where you can actually take advantage of the 1~3% improvement benefits from different set of clubs. Take myself as an example, I replaced my Mizuno MP64-stock S200 DG shaft to a set of Miura MC 501-Nippon 105s. Do you know why I did it? I fell in love with the looks of MC 501, ha. Yes, I could have gone for more forgiving models like my fitter suggested, but then why? I only wanted to change because i loved the way MC 501 looked, plus when I tried it(7 iron), it didn’t perform worse than my MP64, if anything the balls go slightly further(10yards longer, though I believe this is more to do with the shafts )and the dispersion was better too. Before anyone asked, off centre strikes are definitely worse off compare to MP64, so I work harder hitting centre. 5 iron used to be a nightmare because it’d require more club head speed then I used to be able to give it, I got faster since. I’m a happy owner of MC 501, and it still brings a big smile to my face every time I look at them 8 months later. With the work I’ve put in since, (highly recommended Larry for lessons by the way, even if just online lesson like I did.) would i play better going back to MP64?very likely, they are more forgiving after all, I’m sure I could get away with a few mis-hits where I couldn’t with MC501 and may reduce a couple of strokes because of it. Should I ? Maybe yes. Would I? Nah, i love the look of my MC501 too much to do so. Guess What I’m trying to say is that my inadequate skill set is a much bigger problem then my clubs, LOL. If I was a competition player, I probably won’t care too much about how it looks or feels, so long as it delivers me the least strokes reliably, but since I play golf for fun not competition, the smile factor matters a lot. Also that’s why we need someone like you sir and Larry to help us playing clubs we desire. Don’t know how I rant on for so long, probably just too excited to get replied by the legend.
