As a 70 year old golfer it may seem irrelevant to talk about my fitting session with TXG, alongside a discussion about Matt’s gear, but , the more I think about it, it makes sense. I was somewhat hesitant about putting my golf game in front of these guys (Chris, Mike and Greg in Burlington). At my best I played with an 11 handicap about 15 years ago and hadn’t played in over ten years. I shouldn’t have worried. Chris was/ is a very supportive and positive guy who took me absolutely seriously, as did Mike and Greg. First , we worked on my driver, a club I’ve never been able to use effectively, low running draws on a good day with dry fairways and a tail wind. Now, today actually, I can outdrive my old self by 25 to 30 yards with high, straight shots. To be able to stand there and watch my own tee shots, way up on the air, cutting through a serious hook wind is really satisfying. With my irons (Titleist AP1’s) Chris got me into Nippon Zelos 7 shafts a beautiful ultra light steel shaft and an excellent alternative to graphite. The shafts take pressure off of a chronic sore elbow and produce a high, straight ball flight. It’s really cool to know that I’ve closed the gap on Matt; I’m only about 85 yards behind him and I have a killer short game. Seriously, I’m very grateful to the TXG guys, Chris especially, for giving me a shot at playing some good golf going forward.

I love both the "Why in the Bag" videos. I like it when you share the knowledge of "WHY" rather than "WHAT". This is giving out ideas to compare and people get to learn something out of it. Most video would just give the effect of "wow, he's got this / he's got that in the bag", but this is more like "hmmm... that sounds interesting / hmm... i might do that as well". FANTASTIC stuff guys.

A full bag fitting at TXG is in my bucket list after retiring from the military( Maybe one day when I have saved enough funds, I will pull the trigger for a fitting). Just like Ian's driver, my M3 is 9.5 loft with a Tensei White shaft is adjusted to 7.5 because I add a lot of dynamic loft swinging the driver. Also nice to see that both of you have a mixed bag.

I've just been fitted for some Taylormade p790 irons. These in my opinion for me are fantastic! I know they are strong lofted, but because I hit the ball high naturally, I get great distance and can hold greens too. I absolutely love these and would recommend them to anyone who hits the ball high and loses distance because of it.

@davidburrell27786 жыл бұрын
What irons did you play before if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve recently changed to some titleist mb’s and get so much height it is ridiculous, would guess my average peak height with my 4 iron would be over 50 yards, I don’t know if the club length would be part of it with them being too short I believe, or if it is just the clubs but have been pondering changing to a set of stronger lofted irons like p790s to see if they could bring flight down as I must be losing significant distance with the height on mine currently.
@bentoon30236 жыл бұрын
@@davidburrell2778 I played Taylormade rac combo. 3 - 6 cavity back and 7 - pw muscle back. Bearing in mind they were 15 years old, so tec obviously nothing like today's irons. But as an example my 7 iron distance with these was 150 - 155 yds. With the p790 I hit the 7 iron 165 - 170, so a big gain and due to my flight I get them to stop into greens. Being able to hit a higher iron from a bigger distance has given me loads more control. They are not cheap but we'll worth the money in my opinion.

Great video guys as was Ian’s WITB. Matt made a comment at around the 1:12 mark that speaks volumes about this channel and what TXG brings to its viewers. Mats mentions how much his knowledge of properly fitted equipment has increased since he’s started this journey. There’s about 17K subscribers to TXG that can say the same thing. That’s what it’s all about guys so thank you for the information and service you provide to the masses! Question regarding the shaft and head changes to Matt’s driver. His first fit resulted in G400 Max & Kuro Kage XT. Did you change that set up due to Matt’s swing changes and his desire to eliminate the left miss or was it something else? How does the TPT shaft compare to the XT? Guess that’s two questions 😀
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Chris, swing changes were the catalyst for going to the LST instead. TPT and Kuro Kage actually both performed quite well, just a slight edge to the TPT in my case.

Great vid... guys. I am keen to know whether you think having a fit over multiple days vs a 1 day fitting would be an advantage. Matts got exceptional results but my question is it only because you have had multiple looks at his swing? I have had fits which are great then over the coming months the fit seems totally go hay wire. How often do you recommend your fits to check the lie angle?
@doug1lau16 жыл бұрын
Luke, it's possible your swing mechanics simply changed if things fell apart over the course of 2-3 months, and that could be a result of strength and conditioning, or just developing a different rhythm (for better or worse). I personally went from a slicing habit to a hooking habit over the course of about a year just because of changes (improvements) in my arm and back strength and health, but these were fairly easy to correct.
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the player Luke, for some it can certainly be beneficial to break up your fitting process over a few sessions that are spaced out. That would help reduce the variables introduced by the swing performance on a particular day.
@lukewanless99826 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response guys. Apologies for my lengthy response. I have a bit to go through. I am pretty consistent on my trackman numbers very subtle change over time. I am a little inside to out about 1-2degree. My only real variation i get is on dynamic loft delivered over time depending on what i am working on with my coach. Hip rotation versus sliding forward. Most coaches I have worked with over the years see its a serviceable swing. I play at a course with a lot of good golfers and a lot of pro golfers over the years, whilst I am as long as them I miss a hell a lot of greens with the approach shots. Doug I am hearing your thoughts on whether swing changes are the culprit but there isnt much change in the swing according to trackman on path, face to path. I am about 3-4 upright from standard, its my understanding that the steel club head has a iron memory and bending more than around 2 degrees(on my epics) it will gradually move back toward the manufactured standard. Plausible as after a slight adjustment I started hitting the ball well again. Apparently happens quicker if you practice off matts, though I don't see how. Everytime the guys who fit me check the lie it seems to have moved. Recently moved to Ping I210s to try an alleviate and gain a bit better back to front dispersion, but despite being fit I seem to have the same tendency to over draw. My question is more about how often should we be tweaking our clubs to ensure correct performance? At what point am i best to say that's not working and get re fit versus having a lesson. Surely if I am delivering the club head the same/close to the same everytime I am getting more out of a fit than a lesson. Matts in a really good spot where he can fine tune to allow for subtle changes in his swing over time. His obviously enjoying his game getting down to 1. I guess where I am getting frustrated is I feel i had a fit 15 years ago as a junior and couldn't miss. I may have give me a false sense of what a fit can do (they were 7up 4up in the head and 3 in the shaft, which is crazy I know but I have never hit the ball that well again. I Got as low as 5. I decided that 12 months ago that it was time to get refit to the new tech. Gained about 2 club lengths. Went stiffer in the shaft, and quietened that hook. Now despite more practice more strength and playing Smarter golf 10 handicap is about the mark but I feel 5 should be the mark at worst. I also have used some metric systems that highlight my approach to the green as the worst part of the game hence irons seem to be the issue. And the putter but thats another issue. Sorry for the long response just a bit lost on what to do. Its hard to know what to do as most people have a vested self intrest in their advice and obviously there is more than one avenue to improvement. Which given the endless topic you guys cover you know what I am talking about. There is so much to think about and its hard when your dealing with something as complex as a golf swing. Regards Tolstoy of responses.

Probably not a ton of difference in the ball flight John, more just the consistency on how the player delivers the club if it suits them to have a stiffer flex. Likely 95+ mph on the 6 iron would be a rough guideline to where the 120tx would start to be a good option.

@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Coincided with swing changes, that driver would've been my nightmare 6 months ago! The way my swing is now, I almost never miss left, it's usually an over-draw if I miss so the open face is great for that

When you started working on your swing changes did you go into it with the goal of hitting that shot or was that draw without the left miss a result of the change? Considering taking lessons again wondering how you communicated that goal to your coach?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Was my goal for sure, and also matched up with the philosophy of my coach in terms of swing dynamics. I think as long as you're clear in communicating from the start with a pro what ball flight you're looking for, a qualified teacher should be able to work in that direction for you.

Love the videos and have a request. With all of the adjustable loft, lie, face angle offerings, how one goes about getting his/her club settings dialed in has become very vague. How would you guys feel about a video explaining in depth the net result of the variety of settings for the top 4 or 5 adjustable hosel wood manufacturers? Thanks

Kevin Neeley I was in the same boat. Had an M3 fitted. But as minor changes to my swing occurred and just simply some swing differences before a round, I found I couldn’t keep the club optimized. Recently, I fitted into an epic flash. Once fitted I left the face unchanged. But it was much simpler to slide one weight to make an adjustment to draw or fade. So warming up, I could make small and easy changes without a launch monitor. So simplicity is also a consideration when purchasing clubs. While it’s nice to have a super adjustable club thinking we can dial it in perfectly. But as a regular golfer, sometimes simpler is better.

Matt, please don't tinker now that you have your bag set up. It's cost me a fortune and hasn't improved my game . . lol. Technique first big man :)

And I have never found a Miura that combines everything in your Srixons... The pretty ones are as stable, the "forgiving" ones aren't as pretty...

The Srixons are a really good all around iron for sure!
