iN 1978 , Championship winning team owner Junior Johnson and crew chief Tim Brewer changed engines during the race at both Pocono and Charlotte , allowing driver Cale Yarborough to clinch enough points to claim his third consecutive Winston Cup Series Victory . I can still remember Barney Halls words . " The next time you are at your local garage , and they tell you are going to have to leave your car with them for a couple of weeks , ask them to explain this . It’s a good policy. I remember back in The old days you had cars dropping debris , crashing multiple times, and causing unnecessary caution laps and ultimately effecting races. The drivers and teams wanted nascar to do something. Blaneys car would have taken at least 45 minutes to an hour to fix, it wasn’t a simple thing, he had a broken steering column or rack. Typical fan over reaction to cryin’ Ryan.
@mrj32172 күн бұрын
Damaged cars should be allowed to properly fix the cars mechanically as well as missing rear deck lids or front end clips and other body work that's required. Make the repaired car get a simple NASCAR tech and safety inspection before allowing them to get back on track.

I have NEVER liked the DVP. When you only have 5 or 6 minutes to fix a car, what kind of shape is it going to be in? they just have a band-aid on them. If you let the teams take as much time as they need to put a safe race car on the track, it will be better for everyone. I think the time spent fixing the car is penalty enough. I dont think playoff drivers should get an exemption though.

I get what NASCAR wanted to do but as Mom used to say, "The road to Heck, is paved with good intentions". It's NASCAR's car (design), they are the ones requiring the diffuser that causes most of the problems (other than crashing) with recovering cars with flats. The low profile tires, are also factors. NASCAR created all the need to cause the drivers to strive mightily get as many points as possible EVERY race, even if it's just 1 point, ask Carl Edwards. And lets not forget here, Blaney is the defending champion. If he doesn't deserve a 'courtesy' break, who does? Agree with the stage break yellow you talked about. Matters. Norris deal is surprising. More intrigue for Silly Season.

Isn't Kaulig kinda a satellite alliance team for Trackhouse since SVG is in a Kaulig Xfinity & Cup cars this year! I believe Kaulig is on the RCR campus which they have a technical alliance with. It's all one big Chevrolet family connection. I see Ty Norris taking over duties of running the Cup program at Kaulig & Chris Rice running the Xfinity side of the team, this should improve both programs. I'm thinking Chris Rice is spread too thin now trying to run both Cup & Xfinity teams at a 100%. Matt Kaulig isn't happy unless his cars are trophy hunting every week, the Cup program lost it's way when they moved A.J. back to Xfinity trying to improve the Xfinity teams performance.

It's definitely dumb. Even Ryan Blaney said "I don't know if we could of repaired it but they didn't even give us a chance." Think about from the crew perspective though. I think another time limit reason is because NASCAR doesn't want to have a green pit road. Say a car is getting significantly repaired and drivers are coming down pit road for Green flag pitstops. A driver is going to be pissed if he gets hung up even for a second because ha has to make,sure that he's not going to accidentally hit one of Blaney's pit crew members. Or say a tool is sitting in a little bit of a precarious spot and another car runs it over while going to there pitspot. Then they get hit with a running over equipment penalty under green or yellow. I'm definitely not saying that DVP time limit is ideal but you have to think about of from all perspectives

I can't disagree with NASCAR on the DVP. If the car cannot be mechanically steered (unlike a flat) and had to be towed, then it must be taken out of the race. The part that would have to be replaced is not one approved by NASCAR to be fixed on pitroad. Thats the rule.. But, with that said, please revise the rule NASCAR. I do agree with trying to reduce additional cautions, but expand the parts that can be fixed on pitroad (or the garage) on the DVP clock. Wow! Ty Norris leaving Trackhouse. The loss of Ty to the team cannot be overstated. I agree BB, you don't just leave out of the blue in the middle of the playoffs. Shame on Trackhouse for letting that happen. No matter what it was..

I think the DVP is bad for the sport and here are 2 examples. 1. Sponsors…… sponsors put a ton of money in and want to see their car on tv . I think tv should highlight every car in some way during the race so that sponsors know they will get some tv time even if it’s a smaller team. 2. Fans….. fans want to see their favorite driver on the track. I do understand that not all damaged cars need to be returned to the track but I think that should be more in the hands of the team. I also think NASCAR will throw a caution flag for nothing with 5 to go but tell a car to park it for a piece of tape falling off in the first stage…. so maybe a little bs calling is at play. I think that NASCAR could put some kind of penalty in place for putting a car back on track that shouldn’t be like starting at the rear in the next race or something like that. One other thought is drivers should be deemed safe to return to the track so they don’t get two or three crashes in one race.
