"Ty and That Guy" is an incredible gift to the fans. I don't think fandom has ever had a similar opportunity for a cast member of any show or movie to examine both their own role and a writer/creator. Wes asks the questions we'd all ask if we had the opportunity. Ty and Wes are invested beyond any reasonable expectation.

I wish I had access to something like this, back in the 90's, during the run of Babylon 5. I missed out on the message boards, and such, and would have loved to have been able to listen to Straczynski, O'Hare, Katsulas, Furlan, Biggs, Furst, Doyle, Conaway (et al) talk about their on set experiences at that time. Luckily Straczynski is very approachable and accommodating to the fans, and I've been able to have questions answered.

Jared Harris is Gary Oldman-level to me, he's a chameleon. He can easily be a gritty tough sailor, a fragile dork, or a calculating mastermind without leaving a doubt in your mind. Those are the best actors, IMO. Wes, don't argue with Ty, it seems he's gonna win everytime.

Really cool to hear some insights about the actors playing minor roles like Lopez. One of the things I've always been amazed by is how good the show is at making you care about characters who have only a few lines in a single episode like Lopez, and Theresa Yao, and Sandrine Karino, and the guy who helps Bobbie find the beach, and Souther's loyalists, and on and on. They are so well written, cast, and acted that they feel like fleshed out characters even when they're totally not. I've never seen another show that does that so consistently and so well.

I know he was a minor character, but Lopez's monologue about living his whole life under a dome that even the thought of an open sky seemed unimaginable was what sealed the show for me. Beautiful writing, perfectly acted and delivered - none of these are adjectives I'd associate with a sci-fiction TV show, but it's a scene I will always remember because it was the first time The Expanse gave me goosebumps. Hasn't changed since then. PS: Wes, my man, you need to binge on Archer's first five seasons. Season 5, especially, is one of the funniest things ever committed to TV.

Speaking of the Mormon issue, I think there was a real missed opportunity for some hilarity, if the Nauvoo had actually departed on its journey, and arrived on some planet ready to colonize it, only to discover it's one of the ring gate systems, like Auberon or Ilus and there's already a long-established colony there, whose people tell the Mormons "Oh, hey, I guess you didn't hear, these gates opened up right after you left."

Smallish point. When Havelock gets "shafted" so to speak, he is left hanging on the wall, but when the body is discovered later, the shaft/rod/pipe is still embedded in his chest, Tyt misspoke when he said that Havelock squirmed off the stake through his sternum, the stake came loose from the wall and the body and stake fell to the ground where they were discovered by the woman that was rifling through his pockets.

My guess is that Havelock goes to Gia for a couple reasons. Havelock sees someone who needs some help. Whether that be money or protection/legal issues. She's also a reasonable cover for Havelock if he doesn't want people knowing he's getting lessons. Miller even gives him shit for getting lessons at the hospital.

Trying to adhere to physics is part of what really hooked me on The Expanse. I was a little uncertain with the first few episodes, but how the battle with the Donnager was handled sealed the deal for me. 3 days on an attack vector, torpedoes taking a long time to accelerate and reach their destination, it was all good. Firefly was less adherent, but the opening scene where they blew the airlock and it was silent in space got me long enough to fall in love with the show.

I would like to see an adaptation of the original version of "Sandkings", I read the story when I was a teenager, and it still creeps me the hell out. The critters are scary, sure, but the real monster of the story was Simon Kress. Ari Aster needs to direct a film version, STAT.

@Ty & That Guy: When I first saw episode 3 and the crew were taken aboard Donager, it reminded me of when I was a US Marine going aboard an LHA (like Chatham served aboard). It was at night, we were in a Mike boat (very small 'classic' landing craft) and came in through the massive stern gate, into the flooded well deck. It made me think about a 'shuttle craft' being brought aboard a 'mother ship' in a Sci-Fi setting, except it was in real life. This was in 1984.

You guys talking at the end about the aliens and how precarious humans relationships are... reminds me of the Joker (you also talked about) when he sets up the experiment where the two boats are rigged with explosives and it's a Prisoner's Dilemma kinda setup--and his whole purpose is to sow chaos to show how easily human beings can become monsters to each other. And how the Joker is really about truth, in that aspect: showing us the deeper cut of who we really are.

I remember being told when I was 6 or so that my (German) grandmother watched Magnum PI because of the setting in Hawaii - she had a vacation there once and allegedly liked the scenery....

Scariest twilight zone: it's a good life with Billy Mumy as the child who has everyone under his thumb because of his weird ability to change things and wish them into the cornfield. It's weird that Martha Stewart so many years later would make a line from that episode her catchphrase: It's a good thing.

Shelly Winters once wrote an autobiography called "All Tributaries and No Stream." This is what this 'cast reminds me of. Only in this case it's a feature, not a bug. LOVE hearing you guys riff and reference and geek out on stuff. STOKED at the fact that there's 5-6 seasons of material for y'all to go off about and around! (I'm Raconteur-Guide on Twitter, btw)

This show, going beyond The Expanse, is a fantastic podcast for film nerds. Particularly script writers. Seeing Ty and Wes talk about Reservoir Dogs and character motives is great.

Add to your top interrogations list: "Marathon Man." Dustin Hoffman and Lawrence Olivier. Brilliant, excruciating, just terrifying.

Honestly the battle of the Donager made no sense to me. A bunch of weird sociopathic scientists on high tech stealth ships wouldn't throw themselves away trying to capture a martian battleship, they would just blow it up with nukes like they blew up the Cant.

One of the best interrogation scenes, I think, is TRUE ROMANCE with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. Looks like Tarantino does those right as you chose a couple already!

_Twin Peaks_ didn’t last long, but the effortless way it could flip between zany and tragic and innocent and sleazy and always, at any point, a shocking moment of awfulness meant that you were at least half on edge during most scenes.
