The funny thing about these add-on kits is their change of intent when it comes to the mainline. Before it was either added aesthetics or accessories. But now, a majority is just there to fix the issues of the mainline.

Yeah, I think the market is there for these kits because collectors want mainline figures that look as good as the MP figures and Hasbro is taking shortcuts or not willing to spend the budget on making them better. Pretty sure collectors would spend the extra money for a near MP quality mainline figure.

Takara has a better case against 3rd party when they make a figure. One of the big difficulties they have with suing 3rd party companies is that if they have no example of an item they can’t really sue. The case gets stronger when they have a Hot Rod so they can say Hoodlum is using their IP. It’s a lot harder with nothing say Jazz.

They're based in China and Takara Tomy / Hasbro really can't do anything about it. Just like Takara Tomy doesn't have the license from Porche, they can't make a proper Jazz. However, that's not keeping these 3rd party Transformers company from making it as they don't care. Why do you think they're all based in China and none of them are in the US, European countries or even Japan? There's a reason why why Hasbro can't make a Jetfire reissue and that's because they no longer have the license to Macross / Robotech. If they made one, they'd be sued. However, China plays by it's own rules.

That is a good point but I think the only thing that happens to these companies for IP infringement is for optics because they get raided then back to work the next month

As for thrones, I got a couple of extra Starscreams from Ross a couple of months ago, and remember putting the thrones in one box and the SS in another. Never even tested how an MP sized figure would fit on that "voyager" scaled option. 🤔

I used to be very anti the toon style. From my point of view, manufacturers were trying to match the look of one of many animation cells, lots of which look different and have as little detail as possible, to aid quick drawing times. The toys were what I was interested in as a child. Only the first series of Transformers was free to air in my country. It has grown on me a lot over the past few years. Not that I prefer the toon look, but there is definitely a place for it in my collection.

My first Transformer as a kid was the G1 Prowl that I got at Toys R Us with my own money. He got loved by my friends and cousins til he was no more. 😆 But that toy style and detail has always been my preference over toon. I don't mind toon but the lack of detail on some of them or sticking too closely to the proportions is off-putting like with the DS and FansToys Blasters. I much prefer the KFC version.

You make good points for both sides of the toon debate. At the end of the day you have options for most characters to go toon or more real world and options are great

Legends just still seem like toys, masterpiece has a presence and that presence is what i look for in my collection. I need minibot reissues (brawn, warpath, beachcomber,) from fanstoys. I also need fanstoys to finish the stuntacons and arielbots!!! And if some 3rd party could make a worthwhile windcharger that would be great too.

Speaking of KOs and trailers... the UFO Annular Trailer for Leader and MPM Prime that transforms into a armory ring was KOed multiple times. First it was KO-ed by an unnamed company, complete with the original flaws and loose pins. Then it was improved by BOKU (BK-02), probably the best version. And lastly, Turans Botmers HZ-01. Said to be the cheapest made: very thin layer of blue paint, wobbly panels, cheap wheels. Being a late adopter I only found the HZ-01, still a decent display piece if you're not going to pay thru the nose for a UFO or BOKU.

Just counting, I notice at least 2 versions missing from that pic... actually 3. Trying to remember the name of the 3P one missing from that shot.

@Tydirium hanger looks like the back row you've got at 17:58 are: Kronos, MP official, Fanstoys, then Seige, G1, Sky Guardian, then New age & magic square (or vice a versa). So excluding the versions that strayed from the G1 look, (like the Universe & then Generations, and maketoys sky busters), while sticking with more of a G1 skyfire and not jetfire look, I'd say a couple that are somewhat close are the Sky Crusher (headmaster, but I think there were multiple head/bot/weapon options made, and one might look better than the head that came with Sky crusher); and the TNT version which I think was an OS of IF.

I don't see Takara producing more MP figures anytime soon. Most of G1 season 1 is Takara, but they are probably making more profit sticking with current Hasbro lines.

Takara has delivered several figures over the past year and Their stuff usually sells out because of the die hard anti 3p collectors in Japan. I hope for more From Takara

I'd definitely get another Contactshot if it got reissued. Both modes look awesome! It's a shame the Hasbro figure was such a letdown. Hopefully they'll decide to do more Targetmasters like they are doing with the Headmasters.

Do you have any info regarding the licensing issue Super7 is having with the Silverhawks line? Not only have they not announced anything past wave 3 but they actually removed everything from their website! Will we at least get Copper kid to finish the main cast? That is crazy how they have 2 waves showing up and nothing on their website!!! They have not announced anything past wave 3 and Brian said once wave 2 drops he will announce wave 4 which has exciting reveals. He also said there will be something big announced and we expect the Miraj. Watch us hear something soon the time is right but it seems odd

I dont like the ulatra toon look of many newer MP scale bots. i dont mind toon accurate in bot mode but I vastly prefer real world looks for the alt modes. The exceptions are the weird futuristic looking bots mostly from the 86 movie.

I been there since day one. There is no such thing as too toon. The more the better. That's my opinion. I see people's opinions change all the time. One reviewer, I wont' name him, 5 years ago state dthe more toon the better. Now he says I was never into super toon I like some stylized. We are all allowed to change our opinions but mine has always been toon 100%. As a kid the toys were great but didn't look like the cartoon and I was 7 and found it off. As for legends scale, I dove into that rabbit hole and newage is my go to but I will get some magic square if I think it's more toon or better. Their new bruticus looks sick, already have brawl. These days the companies have to cater to both the toon and real world it seems. Fanstoys has found a good balance for that but I like the figures to look like they walked out of the animation
